Separately, Call of Duty’s August 2026 Modern Warfare 4 information says that signing in with an Activision account lets players “carry progression across supported platforms.” This confirms account-based cross-platform progression. How to maximize your chance of keeping progression
- Create or use one Activision account. Do not make separate Activision profiles for different platforms if you want one progression history.
- Link each platform account to that Activision account. Check the account’s linked-platform page before launching the game on a second device.
- Launch Modern Warfare 4 while signed in. Account-based progression cannot be associated correctly if you use an unlinked or different profile.
- Allow synchronization while online. Before changing platforms, play online long enough for the latest profile changes to be recorded, then exit normally.
- Verify the account identity on the new platform. If your level, unlocks or rewards are missing, stop and check the signed-in Activision account rather than creating a new one.

What happens when moving from PS5 to PC?
Profile progression
If both versions use the same Activision account, the documented cross-platform system is intended to carry supported progression and let you continue the same profile. This is the part you can reasonably expect from the official information.
Campaign position
The exact story position is uncertain. Do not promise that a PS5 checkpoint will appear automatically in the PC version, or that an Xbox campaign will resume at the same mission on Steam. The current documentation does not establish that behavior.
Practical preparation
Before switching, record the mission and checkpoint you reached, keep the original installation intact, and ensure the game has completed any available update. Those measures give you a reference if the second platform does not show the same story state, but they are not a substitute for official cloud-save support.

The campaign is the mode most likely to remain usable during travel or an outage because the continuous-connection rule is not attached to it. Finish installation and required updates before leaving, then test the game once while online so you know the installation starts correctly.

An internet connection remains necessary even for Private Matches. A local private lobby should not be assumed to work during an outage.

Do not switch devices on the assumption that the story checkpoint will follow. Account progression is confirmed; campaign checkpoint transfer is not.

- Whether every campaign checkpoint is cloud-synchronized between all six listed platform families.
