Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is worth considering on PS5 if you want to play Metal Gear Solid 4 on a modern platform or missed the PSP-era Peace Walker. The package launched August 27, 2026. TechRadar’s reviewer reports that MGS4 runs at 4K and 60 frames per second on PS5, but the collection is a less convincing purchase for newcomers who have not played earlier entries or for buyers interested mainly in a large set of bonus games.
What is included in the PS5 collection?
The collection contains three games: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in its HD Collection version, and the Game Boy Color title Metal Gear: Ghost Babel. Konami says MGS4 is available on modern platforms for the first time since its original 2008 PlayStation 3 release.
It also includes the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database, a screenplay book and master book for each of the two main games, and Metal Gear Solid: Digital Soundtrack Vol. 2. The collection launched on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam, with physical and digital editions announced by Konami. Konami’s launch announcement lists the platforms and package contents.
How does MGS4 run on PS5?
TechRadar’s August 2026 review reports that MGS4 runs at 4K and a steady 60 frames per second on PS5 in the reviewer’s experience, with faster area loading than the original release. Those are the outlet’s observations, not independently verified benchmark results. The reviewer characterizes the port as strong overall while noting that some of the game’s older design choices remain.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Performance is a major reason to consider this collection if you want to revisit MGS4 without returning to its original PS3 platform. The game itself still has uneven elements: TechRadar’s reviewer criticizes some late-story pacing and plot choices, while praising sequences including Act 4. The collection improves access and presentation; it does not change the underlying story or design.
What is Peace Walker like in this collection?
Peace Walker is structured around short missions rather than one uninterrupted campaign. Between missions, you develop a base, recruit and manage staff, and develop weapons. That format can suit shorter play sessions, but it feels different from the mainline console entries.

TechRadar’s reviewer describes Peace Walker as visually rougher than MGS4, while praising the improved versions of Ashley Wood’s comic-style cutscenes. The review considers it an important and enjoyable entry, though less consistent in its bosses and visuals. For players who missed its original PSP-era release, its mission structure and base-building make it a substantial part of the package rather than a minor extra.

Yes. PlayStation documents online CO-OPS for 2–4 players and VERSUS OPS for up to six, along with trading and item delivery. Online play requires an internet connection and PlayStation Plus. Konami says Peace Walker is the only game in the collection with online play and that crossplay is not supported. Is it a good starting point for Metal Gear Solid?
Not an ideal one. MGS4 draws heavily on earlier series events and characters; TechRadar’s review advises that players should know at least the original MGS trilogy to follow it well. Peace Walker also benefits from familiarity with the series. If you are new, playing earlier entries first is likely to make the story in this collection easier to understand.
Are the extras and game selection enough?
The books, database, and soundtrack add archival material for fans, but the playable selection is focused: two substantial games and one bonus title. TechRadar’s reviewer considers the single bonus game less generous than the bonus-game selection in Vol. 1 and notes that Metal Gear Online is not included. Whether the books and soundtrack add value depends on how much you want reference and behind-the-scenes-style material alongside the games.

Should you buy the collection or a game separately?
Konami says MGS4 and Peace Walker are also available as separate digital titles. That gives buyers a narrower option if they want only one of them, while the collection adds Ghost Babel and the listed digital extras. The US PlayStation Store listing showed $49.99 for the collection and $29.99 for MGS4 in August 2026; those are region-specific, volatile prices, so check the current listing in your region before deciding. The US PlayStation Store collection listing identifies its included content.

Buying another entry separately may be less useful if you already own or have access to the earlier games needed to follow MGS4. The collection’s clearest value is access to MGS4 and Peace Walker together, plus the bonus material; it is not a substitute for the series’ narrative foundations.
