Short answer: Meta Muse does not need blanket access to every account. You choose which services to connect, and each connector has its own permission scope. Muse can read information or perform tasks only through services you authorize, while consequential actions—such as sending an email or making a purchase—require a fresh approval. Muse can also operate in the background, store files in its virtual machine (VM), remember details, and use connected apps, so connecting an account is a meaningful access decision rather than a harmless toggle.
Meta described Muse’s United States rollout for iOS, Android and the web in September 2026. The Google Play listing was updated October 12, 2026. Labels, connectors and availability may differ by region, age and app version.
What data can Meta Muse access?
Muse uses a connector model: you select a service, then grant that connector a defined level of access. Meta’s Google Play disclosure names email, calendar, Instagram, Facebook, health and fitness information, and finances as possible connections. The list is not a promise that every account or feature is available to every user; it shows the kinds of personal services Muse may support.

- The service you connect. An email connector can expose mail-related data, while a calendar connector can expose events and availability. A finance connector may expose account or transaction information that its provider makes available.
- The task you request. Reading an itinerary is different from changing an event. Drafting an email is different from sending it. A connector’s permissions and the requested operation together determine what Muse can do.
Muse is designed to continue work after you leave the app. That means a lack of active screen time does not prove that no connected service is being used. Treat background operation, saved permissions and remembered information as part of the product’s normal behavior.

Connecting an account is not the same as approving every action
Granting a connector access gives Muse a route to that service within the scope you selected. It does not automatically approve every future action. Meta’s permission model separates information retrieval from changes made on your behalf.

Meta’s connector guidance says reads and ordinary writes normally ask on first use. You may save an approved scope with Always allow, or limit it to one use with Allow once. Deny stops that requested tool use. Sensitive writes cannot be placed on Always allow, including through a saved setting.
If a tool combines reading and writing, Meta says it should be treated as a write. A material change to the recipient, price, destination, or requested scope should trigger a new approval rather than silently reusing an earlier one.

What approval prompts should you expect?
For a low-risk read, Muse may ask once and then continue within the scope you saved. For an ordinary change, the same three choices can apply. For a sensitive write, expect a prompt each time. Meta specifically describes asking before actions such as sending an email or making a purchase.
Read the details in a prompt instead of approving from the headline alone. Check:
- which connected service is being used;
- what information will be read;
- what will be created, changed or deleted;
- the recipient, amount, destination or other consequential detail; and
- whether the permission is for one use or future uses within the stated scope.
If any of those details change, stop and review the new request. A previous approval is not a substitute for approval of a materially different action.

How to minimize and manage Muse access
You do not have to connect every service to use Muse. Use the following process when setting it up or reviewing an existing account.

If you need calendar planning, do not add email or financial access unless a specific workflow requires it.
- Choose the narrowest permission option. Use Allow once for a one-off job. Use Always allow only when repeated access within the displayed scope is worth the convenience.
- Set connection defaults in Muse settings. Meta says default permissions can be managed for each connection. The exact menu wording can change between iOS, Android and web releases.
- Approve sensitive writes individually. Because these requests cannot be saved as Always allow, inspect each prompt before confirming.
- Review the activity log. Meta says Muse provides an activity log so you can examine what it did and which tools were involved.
- Revoke or disconnect a service when it is no longer needed. Meta says saved access can be changed or a service disconnected. Removing a connection prevents future use through that connector, but the reviewed materials do not establish whether previously stored files, memories or service data are deleted automatically.
- Ask Muse to forget a remembered detail. Meta describes a control for requesting that specific remembered information be forgotten. This is separate from disconnecting an account and separate from opting out of model training.
Where Muse stores files and credentials
Meta says files placed in the Muse VM, along with files Muse generates or uses for you, are stored in that VM. Connected-service credentials and authentication tokens are held in a separate isolated container inside the VM rather than in other Meta services. Meta also says the VM is continuously backed up.
Isolation reduces the chance that one user’s workspace is exposed to another user’s workspace, but it is not the same as a guarantee that Meta personnel can never access the data. Meta’s description says operational policies restrict personnel access while expressly allowing access when necessary to support, secure or operate Muse.
These are vendor-described controls, not an independent security audit. Keep that distinction in mind when deciding whether to connect sensitive accounts.
Are Muse conversations used for advertising?
Meta says conversations and VM data are not shared with Meta’s ad systems. That statement has an important qualification: browsing initiated through Muse can appear as your activity on a third-party website, and that website may use the activity to show you an advertisement elsewhere.
Therefore, “not shared with Meta ad systems” does not mean that no Muse-initiated activity can ever influence advertising. The direct conversation and VM data claim concerns Meta’s ad systems; it does not control how an unrelated website handles activity that occurs on its own service.

Are conversations used to train AI models?
Meta says sanitized interaction trajectories—including conversations, tool calls and subagent handoffs—may be used to train new model checkpoints. The stated process removes key personally identifying information before that training use.
Meta also says Muse has a model-training opt-out switch in its settings. Turning that switch off addresses the described future training use; it should not be described as deleting stored conversations, VM files or connected-service data. Those are separate controls.
What does the app-store privacy disclosure mean?
The Google Play developer disclosure says the app may share personal information and device or other IDs; may collect location, personal information and 12 other data types; encrypts data in transit; and lets users request deletion. Google Play notes that practices can vary with use, region and age.

This disclosure is a developer-provided summary, not a complete map of every connected service’s handling. The reviewed materials do not establish precise retention periods, the exact scope of deletion, or how long a deletion request takes. Do not assume that disconnecting a service deletes data already stored in the VM or in a connected provider.
Security limits you should understand
Prompt injection is still possible
Meta AI Research states that “Prompt injection remains an open problem in the industry — and Muse will sometimes make mistakes.” Content in a webpage, document or message can attempt to influence an agent in ways the user did not intend. Do not give Muse unrestricted authority over high-value accounts merely because a task appears routine.
Muse can take an unexpected action
The Google Play listing warns that Muse may be inaccurate or take unexpected actions and advises users to check in and intervene as needed. Keep notifications enabled where possible, inspect the activity log after multi-step work, and use Allow once for unfamiliar workflows.

Isolation is not absolute confidentiality
Meta says each user’s data is isolated from other users, but also says its architecture does not prevent Meta from accessing data when necessary to support, secure or operate the service. That is a service-provider access condition, not a promise of end-to-end confidentiality from Meta.

What is Muse Confidential VM?
Meta’s September 2026 launch material described Muse Confidential VM as a later feature intended to encrypt the VM with a key only the user holds, so Meta could not access it. The same material described the feature as in development with testers. As of those sources, it should be treated as planned or in progress, not as a standard capability you can assume is enabled today.

Connect an account when the benefit of automation outweighs the exposure of the specific data and actions involved. For a one-time, low-risk lookup, Allow once is usually the least persistent choice. For recurring reads or ordinary writes, Always allow can reduce prompts but creates a standing grant that you should review and revoke when circumstances change. For purchases, outbound messages and other consequential operations, rely on the required per-use approval and verify every detail.
Before connecting, ask yourself:
- Does Muse need the entire account, or only one service?
- Is the task a read, an ordinary write or a sensitive write?
- Would a mistaken action expose money, health information, private correspondence or another person’s data?
- Can the job be completed with a temporary permission?
- Have you enabled the model-training opt-out if that is important to you?
- Do you know how to find the activity log and disconnect the connector afterward?
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Muse without connecting personal accounts?
Yes, for tasks that do not require information or actions from those accounts. Features that depend on email, calendar, social, health, fitness or financial data require the relevant connector.
Does Muse keep working after I close the app?
Meta describes background operation as part of Muse’s behavior. Closing the visible app is not the same as disconnecting a service or revoking a saved permission.
Can I choose which apps Muse can access?
Yes. You choose the services to connect, and Meta says permissions can be managed separately for each connection.

Can I revoke access later?
Meta says you can change access or disconnect a service. Review the activity log as well, and do not assume revocation erases data already stored elsewhere.
Will Muse send an email or buy something without asking?
Meta’s connector rules classify those as sensitive writes. They require a fresh Allow once approval each time; they cannot be saved as Always allow.
Does opting out of model training delete my data?
No. The training switch is separate from disconnecting a service, forgetting a remembered detail, requesting deletion or removing VM data.
Is Muse protected from prompt injection?
No protection is perfect. Meta says prompt injection remains an open industry problem and that Muse will sometimes make mistakes, so monitor consequential workflows.
The Bottom Line
Meta Muse needs access only to the services and scopes you choose, but those choices can enable background work, stored files and actions on your behalf. Use the narrowest connector permission, approve sensitive writes every time, review the activity log, revoke unused connections, and treat Meta’s advertising, training and security statements as distinct policies rather than one blanket privacy promise.
