Short answer: Kitaria Fables 2 is confirmed to support two-player local and online co-op on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation. Crossplay between PC, Xbox, and PlayStation is not confirmed. The official listings and developer announcement currently describe co-op within each platform ecosystem, so you should not assume that a PC player can join an Xbox or PlayStation player until the publisher or developers make a direct crossplay announcement.
The game is still unreleased, which means networking features could change. Steam currently lists a planned Q2 2027 release, while the PlayStation Store lists the date as to be determined.
What is confirmed about Kitaria Fables 2 co-op?
Kitaria Fables 2 is designed for two heroes to complete the full adventure together. The official Steam description says players can recruit a friend in local or online co-op and play through the entire story with both heroes. A developer announcement identifies the characters as Alice and Dusty and says Player 2 can join or leave during the adventure.

That is separate from crossplay. Online co-op means two players can connect over the internet; crossplay means players on different hardware platforms can join the same session. The current material confirms the first feature but does not confirm the second.

Two-player limit
The listings and announcement consistently describe a two-player experience. Xbox specifies local co-op and online co-op for two players, while PlayStation shows two online players. There is no published indication of a larger party size, four-player mode, or simultaneous support for more than two participants.
Drop-in and drop-out support
The developer announcement says Player 2 can drop in and drop out at any point. When Player 2 leaves, Player 1 can continue the adventure without switching to a different save. This makes the co-op structure suitable for a host who wants to keep progressing even when a partner is unavailable.
Is Kitaria Fables 2 crossplay?
Crossplay is currently unconfirmed. None of the reviewed official Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, or developer materials says that PC, Xbox, and PlayStation players can enter the same online session. They list online multiplayer for their respective platforms, but they do not state that those platforms share matchmaking, invitations, or game sessions.

Can PC and Xbox play together?
There is no official confirmation that a Steam player can join an Xbox player. Steam lists online co-op, and Xbox lists online co-op, but those entries do not establish a shared PC–Xbox matchmaking system. Treat PC–Xbox play as unavailable unless PQube or the developers explicitly identify it as supported.
Can PC and PlayStation play together?

Can Xbox and PlayStation play together?

What each platform listing actually promises
Steam
The Steam page lists single-player, online co-op, and shared/split-screen co-op. Its description says a friend can be recruited locally or online and that both heroes can play through the entire story. The page currently gives a planned Q2 2027 release window. It does not say that Steam players can connect to Xbox or PlayStation users.
Xbox
The Xbox listing covers both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It specifies “Xbox local co-op (2-2)” and “online co-op (2-2),” indicating a two-player console experience. Xbox also states that an online multiplayer subscription—Game Pass Core or Ultimate—is required for console online play. That subscription requirement applies to playing online through Xbox; it does not provide evidence of cross-platform matchmaking.
PlayStation
The PlayStation Store page is for PS5 and shows two online players. Its description also says that a friend can be recruited in local or online co-op for the full story. The page currently lists the release date as to be determined. It does not identify PC–PlayStation or Xbox–PlayStation crossplay, and it does not state an online subscription requirement in the available information.
How the co-op progression is expected to work
The developer’s description gives one important progression rule: Player 1 can continue without needing a different save when Player 2 leaves. In practical terms, the host’s adventure is not presented as dependent on keeping the second player connected for the entire campaign.

The announcement does not publish a full save-transfer policy. It does not explain whether Player 2 keeps independent character progression, whether both players receive every quest reward, or whether progress is tied exclusively to the host. Do not assume that a guest can take the entire campaign to another player’s save until those details are documented.

Local co-op versus online co-op
Local co-op places both players on the same supported system. Steam explicitly lists shared/split-screen co-op, and the Xbox and PlayStation descriptions include local play. Online co-op connects two players over the internet, with each person using their own system. Both modes are part of the advertised two-player design, but they solve different problems.

Steam confirms online co-op but does not state an additional multiplayer subscription requirement. The available listing information does not specify controller requirements, host settings, or whether local split-screen needs one or two input devices, so those details should be checked in the final PC documentation.

On PlayStation
The PS5 listing confirms two online players but does not state a subscription requirement in the available details. It also does not publish networking setup instructions. Check the final PlayStation listing and the game’s support documentation before assuming a particular account or subscription requirement.
How to verify crossplay before buying or scheduling a session
Since the current listings do not answer the crossplay question, use an explicit confirmation rather than relying on an online-co-op label. The following checks can prevent two friends from purchasing different versions expecting them to connect.
- Read the latest official Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation feature descriptions. Look for direct wording such as “cross-platform multiplayer,” “crossplay,” or a named PC–console pairing.
- Check announcements from PQube or the developers for a platform matrix. A useful statement should identify which combinations work, not merely say that the game has online co-op.
- Confirm whether invitations use platform friends lists, an in-game account, or a separate matchmaking service. The current announcement does not specify any of these systems.
- Verify the player limit and whether local and online participants can be combined. The published material confirms two players but does not describe mixed local-online sessions.
- On Xbox, confirm that the player joining online has Game Pass Core or Ultimate, as required by the Xbox listing.
- After launch, check the first patch notes and support page for changes to crossplay, account linking, or matchmaking before planning a cross-platform campaign.
Common assumptions that are not supported yet
- “Every version has online co-op, so crossplay must work.” Separate online listings do not prove that the versions share servers or matchmaking.
- “Cross-generation Xbox play is the same as crossplay.” Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S support is confirmed, but that describes two generations within the Xbox family, not PC or PlayStation connectivity.
- “Two-player co-op means both players own the same progress.” The announcement only explains that Player 1 can continue after Player 2 leaves; it does not publish a complete progression-transfer policy.
- “A release window guarantees the feature set.” Steam’s Q2 2027 date and the PlayStation to-be-determined date are pre-release information. Networking details may still be revised.
What could change before release?
Kitaria Fables 2 is being described before launch, and the platform pages do not all show the same release-date information. Co-op support could be refined during testing, while crossplay could be added, limited to selected platform pairs, or left unsupported. Until a direct statement names the supported combinations, the responsible expectation is platform-specific two-player co-op.

Bottom line for choosing a platform
If you and your friend will use the same platform family, Kitaria Fables 2 is currently advertised as a two-player local and online co-op game, with drop-in/drop-out support for Player 2. If you plan to play across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, wait for an explicit crossplay announcement or a final support document. The existing listings do not justify promising cross-platform co-op.
