Check the neutral-wire requirement before you buy
TP-Link says the KS230 requires a neutral wire at the line side of the 3-way run. If that neutral is not present at the specified location, TP-Link says the kit cannot be installed. The manufacturer’s installation FAQ states: “The KS230 does require a Neutral wire to be present at the Line side of the 3-way run.” Read the TP-Link installation FAQ and the instructions for the exact hardware version before making a purchase.

A 3-way circuit’s wiring can vary, so do not assume that a neutral wire elsewhere in the box or circuit meets the stated requirement. If you cannot confidently identify the line side and the required neutral, have a licensed electrician assess the wiring.
