Yes—current Jitterbug phones can work on 5G, but the model matters. Lively currently identifies the Jitterbug Smart5 and Jitterbug Flip3 as 5G devices. Older phones such as the Smart4 and Flip2 are listed separately by Lively, but the official material reviewed here does not identify them as 5G models.

There is another important condition: current Jitterbug phones are tied to Lively service at activation. The Smart5 requires a Lively plan and cannot be used with another carrier, while the Flip3 help information also requires a Lively plan when you activate it. Check the exact model number and your ZIP code before buying or changing service.

Which Jitterbug phones support 5G?

“Jitterbug” is a product family, not one single hardware generation. Lively’s current product information names two 5G models: the Smart5 smartphone and the Flip3 flip phone. Lively support material also lists the Smart4 and Flip2, but the reviewed pages do not describe those older models as 5G. That is not proof that every unit lacks 5G hardware; it means you should not assume 5G support from the Jitterbug name alone.

Jitterbug Smart5: the 5G smartphone

The Smart5 is the clearest choice if you want a Jitterbug phone with a modern smartphone interface and documented 5G support. Lively’s product information identifies the handset as model JBS5T513G, describes it as a 5G smartphone, and lists Android 16. The same listing gives a 2026 release year.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

That combination makes the Smart5 appropriate for people who need smartphone apps, web browsing, video calls or mobile data while still preferring Jitterbug’s simplified design and support model. Its 5G label does not make it an unlocked, carrier-neutral phone: Lively says a Lively plan is required at activation and that the Smart5 cannot be used with another carrier.

Jitterbug Flip3: the 5G flip-phone option

The Flip3 is the current Jitterbug choice for someone who wants a physical keypad and a flip-phone form factor rather than a touchscreen smartphone. Lively’s help information lists both 5G and LTE connectivity and identifies its software as Android 16 Go.

Flip3 still requires a Lively plan when it is activated. The available product information does not establish a complete radio-band list, roaming behavior or whether every 5G connection uses the same network mode, so do not use the word “5G” as a substitute for checking service at your address.

Smart4 and Flip2: do not assume they are 5G

Smart4 and Flip2 appear in Lively’s support and FAQ material as separate generations. The official pages reviewed for this question do not call either model a 5G phone. If you already own one, find the model name and number in the phone’s settings, on its packaging or on the device label, then ask Lively whether that exact unit supports 5G on your plan.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

This distinction matters when buying used equipment, replacing a damaged phone or moving a SIM. A listing that says only “Jitterbug” does not identify the generation. Ask for the full model name before paying, especially if 5G is a requirement.

What “5G” means on a Jitterbug phone

5G is the cellular radio technology a compatible phone can use when the network, plan and location permit it. It can provide lower latency and higher capacity than older LTE service, but a 5G-capable device may still connect to LTE. Phones switch among available network technologies as signal strength, congestion and network configuration change.

For the Smart5, Lively’s product page carries a broadband label from Best Buy Health, Inc. The label gives typical 5G figures of approximately 125 Mbps download, 12.5 Mbps upload and 40 milliseconds of latency. These are label-level typical estimates, not a promise for an individual customer and not an independent head-to-head test. The reviewed source does not establish that the Flip3 will produce the same figures.

Actual performance depends on your location, indoor signal, nearby users, network conditions, plan and device software. A speed test at one address and time cannot establish what the phone will deliver everywhere you travel.

Lively activation and carrier restrictions

5G compatibility and carrier freedom are separate questions. A phone can contain 5G hardware while still being sold for use with a particular service provider.

  • Smart5: Lively requires a Lively plan at activation and states that the phone cannot be used with another carrier.
  • Flip3: Lively’s help information requires a Lively plan at activation.
  • Older models: Service and compatibility should be confirmed against the exact model and account, rather than inferred from the Jitterbug brand.

If you are replacing an existing phone, do not assume that moving a SIM or signing into a different account will activate the device. Ask Lively which plan is required, whether your account is eligible and whether the phone must be purchased through Lively or an approved sales channel.

How to check whether your Jitterbug will use 5G

  1. Identify the exact model. Look in the phone’s settings under the device or about-phone information, or read the model label on the box. Record the complete name and number, such as Smart5 JBS5T513G, rather than writing down only “Jitterbug.”
  2. Match the model to Lively’s current documentation. Smart5 and Flip3 are the models Lively currently identifies as 5G. If the page for your exact model does not mention 5G, treat support as unconfirmed and contact Lively.
  3. Check your ZIP code. Use Lively’s current coverage map for your home, workplace and places you regularly visit. A broad nationwide coverage statement cannot guarantee an indoor 5G signal at a particular address.
  4. Confirm the plan before activation. Ask whether your selected Lively plan supports the device and whether activation requires a new line, a replacement line or any account change.
  5. Test after activation. In an area with known coverage, look for the phone’s 5G indicator and run a speed test. Repeat the test outdoors and indoors if the result is unexpectedly low; one reading is not a definitive measure of the phone’s capability.

Coverage: what Lively’s map can and cannot tell you

Lively says its service is available across most U.S. areas where major cellular networks provide service and provides an online ZIP-code coverage map. “Most areas” is a general availability statement, not a guarantee that 5G is available in every neighborhood, building or room.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before purchasing, check the map for your home, work address and regular travel routes. Concrete walls, basements, terrain, distance from a cell site and local congestion can affect the connection even where a map shows service. If you need reliable service in a rural area, a large office, a hospital or a frequently visited travel destination, ask Lively about that ZIP code and the exact model rather than relying on a national coverage description.

Choosing between Smart5 and Flip3

Both are documented current 5G Jitterbug models, so the practical decision is mainly about the way you use a phone.

If you need… Better starting point Why
Apps, a touchscreen, web browsing and more data-heavy tasks Smart5 It is the documented 5G smartphone, runs Android 16 and uses model JBS5T513G.
Large physical buttons, a compact folded design and simpler calling or texting Flip3 It is the documented 5G flip-phone option and lists both 5G and LTE connectivity.
Use with a non-Lively carrier Neither should be assumed suitable Smart5 is explicitly described as unavailable on other carriers; Flip3 still requires Lively activation.
Exact band, roaming or address-level 5G requirements Verify with Lively before purchase The reviewed product pages do not publish a complete band or 5G-mode table.

There is no verified independent performance test in the available material comparing Smart5 and Flip3. Choose based on form factor, software and service requirements, not an assumed speed difference.

Common problems and what to do

The phone shows LTE instead of 5G

This does not automatically mean the phone is defective. The location may have LTE coverage but not 5G, the indoor signal may be weaker, the network may be congested or the account may not be fully activated. Move to an area with confirmed coverage, restart the phone, check for software updates and contact Lively if 5G never appears in places where it is expected.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A used phone will not activate

Verify the model number and ownership status before troubleshooting radio settings. Smart5 is tied to Lively service and cannot be used with another carrier according to Lively’s product information. A second-hand listing that omits the model or account status may not be suitable for your intended service.

Speeds are lower than the broadband-label figures

The Smart5 figures are typical estimates, not guaranteed results. Test at another time and location, check signal strength and confirm that the phone and plan are active. If performance remains poor at a location shown as covered, provide Lively with the exact ZIP code, model number and test conditions so it can investigate service rather than treating the label as a promised minimum.

Technical details that are not established

The reviewed official pages do not provide a complete list of supported 5G or LTE bands for Smart5 or Flip3. They also do not establish whether the phones support particular standalone or non-standalone 5G modes, detailed roaming arrangements or a guaranteed 5G signal at a specific address. Do not infer those details from a marketing phrase such as “nationwide 5G coverage.”

If you need a precise band match for a location, compatibility with a specialized network, international roaming or a documented indoor signal, give Lively the exact model number and ZIP code and ask for a written confirmation before ordering or changing service.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom line

Jitterbug works with 5G when you choose a current 5G model: Lively identifies the Smart5 and Flip3 as 5G phones. Smart5 is the smartphone option, while Flip3 is the keypad flip-phone option. Older Smart4 and Flip2 models are not identified as 5G in the reviewed official material, so verify their exact model numbers instead of assuming compatibility. Finally, check local coverage and remember that current models require Lively activation; 5G capability does not make them universally usable with other carriers.
