There is no confirmed demo-to-full-game save transfer for Hope in the City. The free Windows demo can save your progress while you play, but neither the Steam listing nor the available SteamDB metadata documents an import process, automatic unlock, cloud-based handoff, or any other way to continue that save in the paid release. Unless Lofty Sky Entertainment or NAGA Games publishes a clear transfer policy, plan on replaying the demo portion when the full game launches.
The developer’s current announcement points to a planned Steam and Xbox launch on November 11, 2026. Release timing, platforms and save compatibility can still change, so treat that date and any future transfer promise as subject to an explicit update.
What is confirmed about the demo and full game
Hope in the City is a narrative adventure from Lofty Sky Entertainment Inc., co-published with NAGA Games. Its official Steam product page links a separate downloadable demo to the full-game product. That relationship confirms that the demo is an official preview of the same title; it does not, by itself, establish that the two applications share save data.
SteamDB identifies the products separately:

Those identifiers are useful when distinguishing the applications in your Steam library, but separate app records are not proof either way. Some games share saves between demo and full versions; others deliberately keep them isolated. A developer must document the behavior or implement a visible import path before players can rely on it.

Why “Save Anytime” does not mean your save will transfer
SteamDB’s “Save Anytime” label describes saving inside the demo. It means you can preserve progress during the demo session instead of relying only on checkpoints or an end-of-demo snapshot. It does not say where the save is stored, whether the full game reads that location, or whether a conversion step exists.
Public information for this title does not document any of the following:
- An in-game “Import Demo Save” command.
- An automatic unlock when the full game detects a demo save.
- A shared cloud-save directory between the demo and full application.
- Progress synchronization through Steam Cloud, Xbox services or PC Game Pass.
- A developer-supported method for copying or converting a demo save.
Cloud saving and cross-application transfer are different features. A cloud service can back up a file belonging to the demo while the full game still ignores that file because it uses a different app ID, folder, format or progression system. Seeing a save in the cloud is therefore not evidence that the full release will recognize it.

The available announcement from the developer describes a planned Steam and Xbox launch, with November 11, 2026 given as the moved release date. The free demo is specifically identified as a Windows application. No current statement confirms that the demo is available on Xbox, that a Windows demo save will move to Xbox, or that PC Game Pass will include the title.

If you intend to change platforms, assume you will start without the demo’s progress unless the developer gives platform-specific instructions.
What the demo is likely preparing you for
The game follows Hope Song, a 17-year-old artist investigating her parents’ disappearance. The official description centers on gathering clues, making sketches and turning observations into insights through a thought-web mechanic. A demo save could contain discovered clues, sketches, deductions, inventory state or story flags, but the public descriptions do not identify which of those elements are stored or exportable.
That matters because a transfer may be more complicated than copying a single checkpoint. A full release could need to translate demo-only flags, remove tutorial content, or place the player at a specific continuation point. Without developer instructions, manually moving files or renaming folders could corrupt a save and is not a supported solution.

What to do before the full release
You can reduce the risk of losing your demo progress, but these steps cannot create compatibility that the developer has not implemented.

- Finish or pause at a deliberate point. Use the demo’s save-anytime function after important discoveries so you have a recent, known-good save.
- Keep the demo installed. Do not uninstall it merely because the full game appears in your library. The demo may be needed if an official importer is added later.
- Do not delete local save data. Avoid “clean-up” utilities or manual folder deletion until the developer explains where transfer data is stored.
- Record your Steam account and platform. Transfer instructions, if published, may require launching both products under the same account and may not work across Steam and Xbox.
- Check official announcements near launch. Look for a direct FAQ, launch note or developer reply that uses unambiguous terms such as “demo saves carry over,” “import,” or “continue your demo save.”
- Back up only when the instructions identify the correct files. A copy of an unknown folder is not a substitute for an officially supported procedure, but it can preserve your original data if a documented manual backup is required.
Do not assume that completing every optional activity in the demo will unlock a bonus in the full game. No such reward or entitlement has been announced.
How to verify transfer support when the game launches
When the full release is available, use this order of checks rather than guessing from a cloud icon or a familiar save-folder name.
- Read the launch notes. Confirm whether the developer names the demo, the full product and the platform you are using. A general statement that the game supports cloud saves is not enough.
- Open the full game’s load or new-game screen. Look for a clearly labeled import, continue-demo or detect-save option. If the game starts directly at character creation, do not overwrite the demo files while experimenting.
- Check the settings and support pages. Search for a save-transfer entry, not merely “Save Anytime.” The wording should explain whether transfer is automatic or manual.
- Launch the demo once if instructed. Some import systems mark a save for export from inside the demo. Only do this if the developer’s instructions specifically say so.
- Confirm the result in-game. A successful import should show recognizable progress, such as a stated continuation point or previously recorded story decisions. An unchanged profile is not proof that the transfer worked.
- Contact official support before deleting anything. Provide the platform, product version and the exact symptom. Keep the original demo installation and saves until support responds.
If the full game does not recognize your demo save
The full game starts as if you never played
This is the expected outcome unless an import feature has been announced. Quit without creating a replacement save, then check the latest official instructions. Creating a new file may make troubleshooting harder if both products use the same visible save slot.
You can see a demo save but cannot load it
A visible file may belong to the demo’s separate application record or use an incompatible format. Do not edit, rename or move it unless the developer provides exact steps. Preserve the original and report the file’s location and platform to official support.

You played the demo on Windows but bought the Xbox version
Assume no transfer. The current public announcement does not promise cross-platform progression, and a Windows Steam save is not automatically an Xbox save. Start only after checking for a platform-specific migration policy.
A cloud service shows the demo save
Cloud presence confirms backup for the demo account, not recognition by the full application. Verify the app, platform and documented import path before treating the file as usable.
Should you play the demo now?
Yes, if you want to sample the investigation mechanics or decide whether the premise appeals to you. The demo is free on Windows and supports saving during play, so you can stop and return without finishing in one sitting. Play it as a preview, however, rather than as guaranteed progress toward the launch build.

The developer’s Steam Community announcement says the release date moved to November 11, 2026 and describes a planned Steam and Xbox launch. That is a planned date, not a guarantee that every edition will release simultaneously. Store pages, regional availability and platform features can change before launch.

Because the date and platform plan are subject to change, verify the final store page and the developer’s latest announcement before purchasing on the assumption that a particular version will accept your demo save. The same check should cover whether any PC Game Pass edition exists and whether it uses a separate progression system.
What would count as a real confirmation?
A reliable confirmation should identify the products and explain the action required. Strong wording would say that the full game automatically detects a save from the demo, or that players can select a named import command after launching the full release. It should also state platform limits, account requirements and whether the transfer works only once.
Statements that do not answer the question include “the demo has saving,” “the game supports cloud saves,” “the demo is linked on Steam,” or “progression continues.” Those phrases can describe ordinary saving or narrative continuity without promising file compatibility.

Hope in the City connects the free Windows demo with the full-game listing, and the demo lets you save at any time. No public source currently confirms that those saves can be imported into the full release, synchronized automatically or moved from Windows to Xbox. Keep the demo and its saves, watch for a direct statement from Lofty Sky Entertainment or NAGA Games, and budget time to replay the opening when the planned November 11, 2026 launch arrives.
