Yes. Garmin Venu 3 works with compatible iPhones and Android phones through the Garmin Connect app. Garmin’s current U.S. compatibility guidance lists iOS 18.2 or later and Android 9 or later. Android devices must include native Google Play support, and Android Go phones are not supported. The important difference is messaging: Android users can send customized text responses from the watch, while iPhone users cannot reply to text messages from Venu 3.
Compatibility at a glance
Venu 3 is not tied to one mobile operating system. The watch uses Bluetooth to communicate with the phone, while Garmin Connect handles setup, synchronization, notifications and account features. Pairing through the app is required; connecting the watch only from the phone’s Bluetooth settings is not a complete setup.

Those operating-system numbers are current-at-research-time requirements from Garmin’s U.S. support material, accessed October 13, 2026. Garmin can change app requirements, so verify the live compatibility page if you are buying for a particular phone or planning an operating-system upgrade.

What you need before pairing
- A compatible iPhone running iOS 18.2 or newer, or an Android phone running Android 9 or newer.
- The Garmin Connect app installed from the platform’s official app store.
- Bluetooth enabled on the phone and a charged Venu 3.
- For Android, native Google Play support. A device running Android Go does not meet Garmin’s stated requirement.
- Permission to access notifications, Bluetooth and any other phone features requested during setup.
Garmin’s minimum version does not mean every phone with that version is guaranteed to work. Manufacturer software, regional variants and devices that lack standard Google services can affect compatibility. Garmin also identifies phone models that did not pass its internal testing. Treat the model list—not only the Android or iOS number—as the final check.

How to pair Venu 3 with an iPhone
- Install and open Garmin Connect on the iPhone, then sign in or create a Garmin account.
- On Venu 3, open the device controls and choose the option to add or pair the watch. Leave the watch in pairing mode while the app searches.
- In Garmin Connect, choose the option to add a device and select Venu 3 when it appears. Do not rely on the iPhone’s Bluetooth settings as a substitute for this step.
- Compare the six-digit code shown in Garmin Connect with the code displayed on the watch. Confirm the match on both devices.
- Accept the requested Bluetooth, notification and other permissions. Notification controls can be adjusted later in iOS Settings and Garmin Connect.
- Allow the initial synchronization to finish before closing the app or moving far from the phone.
Once setup completes, Garmin Connect remains the link between the watch and the iPhone. If an iPhone was previously paired, remove Venu 3 from Garmin Connect and from the old phone’s Bluetooth list before attempting to use the new phone.
How to pair Venu 3 with Android
- Install Garmin Connect from Google Play and sign in.
- Put Venu 3 into pairing mode from the watch’s device or phone-connection settings.
- In Garmin Connect, select the option to add a device and choose Venu 3.
- Confirm that the six-digit code in the app matches the code on the watch, then approve the pairing.
- Grant notification access and any other permissions requested by Android. Android menus differ among manufacturers, so the labels may not be identical on every phone.
- Keep the phone nearby while Garmin Connect performs its first synchronization.
Android phones that use a customized operating system still need a normal, native Google Play installation. Sideloaded app stores, heavily modified firmware or Android Go can prevent the setup flow from working as Garmin expects.
What works on both platforms
Core watch and app connection
On a supported iPhone or Android phone, Garmin Connect can pair the watch, synchronize activity and health data, deliver software and settings updates, and manage the phone connection. The six-digit confirmation protects against accidentally pairing with a nearby device that is not yours.

Phone notifications
Venu 3 can display supported phone notifications when the operating system allows Garmin Connect to receive and forward them. The exact notification list and available actions depend on the phone’s OS version, app permissions and the individual app that generated the alert. A notification appearing on the phone does not guarantee that every action will be available on the watch.
Connection management
If you replace the phone, Garmin’s new-phone process starts by removing the watch from the old phone and its Bluetooth menu when the old phone is available. Install Garmin Connect on the new phone, place Venu 3 in pairing mode, add it in the app and confirm the code. This avoids leaving an obsolete Bluetooth relationship that can block discovery.
Messaging: the major iPhone-versus-Android difference
Android customized replies
Garmin lists Venu 3 among its watches that support customized text responses through Garmin Connect on Android. You select a prepared response on the watch, and the phone sends the message. Because the phone performs the sending, normal carrier, messaging-app and plan limitations still apply. The feature is not an independent cellular texting service in the watch.

iPhone text replies
Garmin’s notification guidance says watch-based replies to text messages are unavailable through iOS. An iPhone can still forward supported notifications to Venu 3, and some alerts may offer management actions allowed by iOS, but you should not expect to compose or send a text reply from the watch.

iOS restricts how third-party accessories interact with messages and notification actions. Garmin therefore documents notification viewing and management on iPhone separately from Android’s customized-response feature. The difference is a platform limitation, not evidence that the watch failed to pair.
Notification permissions that commonly affect setup
A successful pairing does not automatically make every alert appear. Check the following when notifications are missing:

- The phone’s system notification setting allows the specific messaging, calendar or other app to alert you.
- Any focus, Do Not Disturb, battery-saver or background-app restriction is configured so Garmin Connect can maintain its connection.
- The watch’s own notification settings allow alerts during the current activity, sleep mode or other restricted period.
- The phone and watch are within Bluetooth range and Garmin Connect shows the device as connected.
iOS and Android expose different controls, and Android manufacturers may rename battery or background-permission menus. Use the labels on your phone rather than assuming that another model’s instructions will match.

Venu 3 does not appear in Garmin Connect
- Confirm that the watch is in pairing mode, not merely showing a normal watch face.
- Turn Bluetooth off and on, then reopen Garmin Connect.
- If the watch was connected to another phone, remove it from that phone’s Bluetooth settings and Garmin Connect account before trying again.
- Keep only the intended phone nearby during discovery to avoid selecting the wrong device.
- Check the phone’s OS version and Garmin’s current model-compatibility list. Meeting the minimum version alone does not guarantee support.
The watch appears in Bluetooth but Garmin Connect cannot finish setup
Forget the Bluetooth entry, restart the phone and watch, and repeat pairing from Garmin Connect. The app must complete the relationship and display the six-digit confirmation; a manually created Bluetooth connection can leave the watch visible but unusable in the app.

Android setup fails immediately
Verify that the phone has native Google Play services and is not an Android Go edition. Phones using unsupported firmware, enterprise restrictions or a model Garmin has flagged as not passing internal tests may not complete setup even when Android reports version 9 or newer.

Notifications work but replies do not
On iPhone, this is expected: Garmin documents text-message replies from the watch as unavailable through iOS. On Android, check that Garmin Connect has notification access, the messaging app is permitted to run in the background, and the response feature is enabled in the watch’s notification settings. Carrier or messaging-plan restrictions can also prevent the phone from sending a response.
Connection drops after setup
- Keep Garmin Connect installed and permitted to run in the background.
- Review battery-optimization settings that may suspend Garmin Connect.
- Disable a competing Bluetooth connection if the phone is trying to route the watch through another device.
- Update the phone and Garmin Connect when an update is offered, then restart both devices.
Which phone platform is the better fit?

The practical decision is therefore not whether Venu 3 connects at all. It is whether your phone is on Garmin’s supported list and whether you need Android’s text-response actions. For every other core connection function documented here, the two platforms follow the same Garmin Connect pairing model.
How to verify a specific phone before buying
- Record the exact phone model, carrier variant and operating-system version.
- Compare the version with Garmin’s current U.S. minimums: iOS 18.2 or later, or Android 9 or later.
- For Android, confirm that Google Play is built in and that the phone is not Android Go.
- Search Garmin’s live compatibility guidance for the exact model, especially if it is a regional variant or uses heavily modified software.
- Decide whether Android-only customized text responses are important to you. If they are, an iPhone will not meet that requirement.
Garmin’s requirements are changeable app-support rules rather than a permanent hardware guarantee. Rechecking them immediately before purchase is the safest way to avoid an unexpected incompatibility after an OS update.

Garmin Venu 3 works with compatible iPhones and Android phones through Garmin Connect. Use Garmin’s current model and OS compatibility information to validate your phone, pair from inside the app, and confirm the six-digit code. Choose Android if replying to texts from the watch matters; choose either supported platform if you mainly need synchronization, workouts and notifications.
