No—not for supported setup and app syncing. Google’s Fitbit Air setup guide requires you to sign in to the Google Health app with a Google Account before connecting the tracker. Google does not document an account-free setup or sync option. The setup requirements and app experience can change, so check Google’s current guidance before buying.
What you can—and cannot—do without a Google Account
Fitbit Air is screenless, and Google directs users to the Google Health app to view its metrics. The tracker syncs health and fitness data to the app over Bluetooth. Without signing in with a Google Account, you cannot complete the documented setup or use that supported app-sync experience.

This does not establish whether the tracker records any information locally while disconnected. Google’s setup materials do not specify what data, if any, persists on the device without app syncing.
What setup requires
- Charge the Fitbit Air.
- Download the Google Health app and sign in with a Google Account.
- Follow the app’s instructions to connect the tracker.
Google’s general Fitbit setup instructions say to open Google Health, select “Sign in with Google,” and then choose an account or create one. During setup, you may be asked for your height, weight, and sex. Google says these details are used for calculations such as stride length, estimated distance, basal metabolic rate, and calorie burn.

Check phone compatibility
Google lists iOS 16.4 or later and Android 11 or later for compatible phones and tablets. Meeting the operating-system minimum does not guarantee compatibility with every device: Google flags some older phone models as potentially having issues. Check the current Fitbit setup requirements and app listing for your specific phone.
What happens if you already have a Fitbit account?
Google says access to Fitbit using a Fitbit account ended on May 19, 2026. Existing users need to move their account to a Google Account to continue using the service. Migration cannot be undone, and Google says users retain the historical data they choose to move. See Google’s instructions for moving a Fitbit account to a Google Account.

Google previously said that data-deletion processing for accounts not moved would begin July 15, 2026. That date has passed. The support guidance does not establish what options remain for any particular inactive account, so check Google’s current Fitbit data guidance for account-specific information.
