Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is no longer an active live service. Square Enix announced that service ended on October 6, 2026, at 11:00 PM PDT. The official shutdown materials do not announce an offline conversion or a preservation build, so there is no supported way to say that the game can currently be played offline. They also do not document exactly what an installed app does after shutdown. Treat offline access and post-shutdown launch behavior as unconfirmed, not as available features.
Square Enix also says account information will be deleted after the procedures associated with ending the service are complete. That policy does not promise a save-data export, account transfer, or later restoration.

What changed, and when?
Ever Crisis was built as an online service rather than as a self-contained offline game. Square Enix’s end-of-service notice records the following milestones:

These dates come from Square Enix’s End of Service Notice. The producer’s letter also confirms the same shutdown date for the Japanese and Global versions (Producer’s Letter).

Does Ever Crisis need Wi-Fi or mobile data?
Before the shutdown, the practical answer was yes: an online-service game needed a network connection for its service operations, account authentication and delivery of current content. That old product-support answer should not be carried forward as though the game were still operating.
After October 6, 2026, the more precise answer is:
- There is no officially announced offline edition. The shutdown notice and producer’s letter do not describe a conversion that stores the game’s service logic and content locally.
- There is no official confirmation that an installed copy works without a connection. The notices do not state whether the app opens, stops at a maintenance screen, or permits any local activity.
- There is no official statement promising a future offline release. The sources reviewed neither announce one nor expressly rule out every future possibility.
Consequently, you should not download or keep the client on the assumption that it is now an offline game. A device that happens to display a title screen is not evidence that battles, story chapters, saves or account functions remain playable.
Can you play Ever Crisis after the servers shut down?
The announced service end means the supported live-service operation has stopped. However, Square Enix has not published a technical post-shutdown behavior report. The end-of-service notice establishes the date of termination but does not describe the response from a particular Android, iPhone, iPad or Steam installation.

- The service-end time was October 6, 2026, at 11:00 PM PDT.
- Account information is scheduled for deletion after all procedures connected with the service end are completed.
- The reviewed official materials do not announce an offline conversion, archival client or playable preservation build.
What is not documented
- Whether a previously installed app can reach a title screen.
- Whether authentication requests return an error, a shutdown notice or another response.
- Whether any downloaded assets can be used locally.
- Whether a player can open a save, enter a battle or view story content without contacting the service.
Those details can vary by platform, app version, cached data and the state of Square Enix’s remaining infrastructure. It would be inaccurate to say that every installed copy is confirmed unable to launch, just as it would be inaccurate to promise that an installed copy remains playable.
Is there an official offline version?
No offline version is announced in the shutdown materials cited by Square Enix. The wording matters: the sources do not provide an offline build, but they also do not contain a statement saying that an offline version can never exist.

The distinction protects you from two common errors. First, an old guide that explains how to connect to Ever Crisis before October 2026 is not evidence of current access. Second, a forum report that an app opens on one device is not an official offline-support commitment. Only a Square Enix announcement of a preservation or offline release would establish that the game had been converted for supported offline play.
What happens to your account and save data?
Square Enix’s notice contains this statement:
“To protect users’ personal information, account information will be deleted once all procedures associated with the end of the service have been completed.”

The notice is dated July 7, 2026, and uses future-tense wording. It does not give a completion date for the deletion process. Therefore, do not state that every account had already been erased on October 6 or on the date you read the notice.
Account deletion is not the same as a save export
The shutdown notice does not promise a downloadable archive, a way to move progress to another game, or a restoration service. It also does not describe a player-controlled export of story progress, inventories, characters or purchase history. If you need a personal record, the reliable actions are limited to preserving your own screenshots or other records while you still have lawful access to them; that does not preserve a playable account.
Can you transfer an account?
No transfer program is announced in the cited shutdown materials. The terms provide context by describing a limited license to use the services and virtual items and reserving Square Enix’s ability to suspend or terminate the services and content. Read the current Terms of Service for those contractual provisions, but use the end-of-service notice—not a general terms page—as the source for the actual shutdown date and account-deletion policy.

What was the Red Crystal refund process?
The refund program was narrow and is not a method for retaining access. Square Enix’s Red Crystal Refunds notice applied only to residents of Taiwan who had unused purchased Red Crystals. The eligible balance was calculated at October 6, 2026, at 11:00 PM PDT, the service-end cutoff.

- Eligibility was limited to Taiwan residents.
- Only unused purchased Red Crystals were covered.
- The request window closed after October 6, 2026.
- The historical instructions referred to launching the game and navigating its menus during the refund period.
Because requests are closed, those instructions should not be treated as proof that the client or its servers remain usable. The refund addressed a virtual-currency balance; it did not create an offline mode, preserve an account, or extend play time.
What should you do with an installed copy?
If Ever Crisis is still installed, manage expectations rather than treating the installation as a backup of the service.
- Do not assume the app is an offline archive. The official materials do not announce one, and an installed package may depend on services that are no longer operating.
- Do not uninstall solely because you expect a later offline patch. No such patch is announced, but keeping an installation also does not guarantee access. This is a personal device-management choice, not a supported preservation method.
- Record information you are entitled to keep. Screenshots of your profile, characters, equipment, story progress or purchase receipts can document your history. They cannot recreate the online account.
- Avoid treating a launch screen as proof of playability. Test results on one device cannot establish supported access for every platform or region.
- Use official announcements for any change. A future Square Enix notice would be the authoritative source for an offline build, a final deletion date or a technical explanation of the client.
Why older “offline play” answers are now misleading
Search results and community posts written before October 6, 2026 address a different product state. They may explain that the game needs an internet connection, discuss rerolling or account linking, or describe menus that were available during the live service. Those instructions cannot establish what happens after the service end.
The correct way to read older material is to separate historical operation from current support. Historical guides can explain how Ever Crisis functioned while its servers and account systems were active. They cannot prove that a current installation authenticates, downloads content or opens playable modes now.
