Final Fantasy Resonance does not have a publicly confirmed New Game Plus mode before its October 22, 2026 launch. Square Enix, Nintendo and PlayStation materials reviewed before release do not describe a second-playthrough save, carried-over levels or equipment, altered difficulty, or any other NG+ rules. It is therefore accurate to call NG+ unconfirmed, not definitely absent.
The game does have confirmed optional activities: Gilgamesh, a monster-filled Colosseum, the Chamber of Arms, Ultima Weapon and a special-reward challenge against Sephiroth. Those activities are described as side or optional content, but no official source says which ones unlock only after the credits.
At a glance: what is and is not confirmed
| Feature | Official status before launch | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| New Game Plus | Not confirmed | No published rules for a second playthrough or carry-over progression. |
| Post-credits unlock list | Not published | The timing of the optional bosses and activities is unknown. |
| Demo save transfer | Confirmed | Demo progress can move into the full game; this is not evidence of NG+. |
| Gilgamesh | Confirmed optional encounter | Nintendo identifies the wandering swordmaster as side content. |
| Colosseum | Confirmed optional activity | It contains deadly monsters and rewards. |
| Chamber of Arms | Confirmed optional activity | Legendary weapons seal formidable foes inside. |
| Ultima Weapon | Confirmed optional encounter | Nintendo lists a showdown among the game’s optional discoveries. |
| Sephiroth | Confirmed optional challenge | PlayStation Blog says players can find and challenge him for a chance to win and unlock a special reward. |
This distinction matters because “optional content” and “postgame content” are not interchangeable. A challenge can be available during the main story, after a particular quest, or only after the final battle. The announcements establish that these activities exist, but not their unlock order.

As of October 18, 2026, the answer is: New Game Plus has not been officially confirmed. Final Fantasy Resonance is scheduled to launch four days later, on October 22, so pre-release information may simply omit systems that are explained by the launch build or an official guide.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
No reviewed official announcement specifies any of the details players normally need before starting NG+:
- Whether a completed save creates a new mode or simply lets you replay from an earlier point.
- Whether character levels, weapons, armor, accessories, currencies, Visions or other progression carry over.
- Whether quest flags, collectibles and map discoveries reset.
- Whether enemies become stronger or gain new attack patterns.
- Whether rewards change, and whether unique bosses remain available in a second run.
- Whether the final save can return freely to unfinished side content.
Because none of those rules are documented, saying “Resonance has NG+” would go beyond the available evidence. Saying “Resonance definitely has no NG+” would also be too strong before launch documentation or verified gameplay establishes that absence. The defensible pre-release wording is NG+ is unconfirmed.
What do you do after beating Final Fantasy Resonance?
The safest answer is to separate confirmed activities from their timing. Nintendo’s publisher description promises “Hours of side content to discover” and names four substantial pursuits. Square Enix’s PlayStation Blog adds a Sephiroth challenge with a special reward. These are the activities to look for, whether they appear before the finale, after the credits, or through a mixture of both.
Find the wandering swordmaster Gilgamesh
Gilgamesh is explicitly identified as a wandering swordmaster and an optional discovery. The announcement does not state whether he is a single boss, a chain of encounters, or part of a longer quest, and it does not identify a post-credits trigger. Treat him as confirmed side content rather than confirmed postgame content until the launch version explains his unlock conditions.

Enter the Colosseum
The Colosseum is described as a place containing deadly monsters and rewards. That wording indicates repeatable or challenge-oriented play is possible, but it does not establish a tournament format, number of rounds, difficulty tiers, or whether completion requires finishing the story. The existence of rewards also does not prove that any reward is exclusive to a second playthrough.
Open the Chamber of Arms
The Chamber of Arms contains formidable foes sealed within legendary weapons. This points to optional battles tied to powerful equipment or weapon lore. Official descriptions do not say how many chambers exist, which characters can access them, or whether the fights become available only after the final boss. Players should therefore expect meaningful exploration, while avoiding assumptions about a post-credits sequence.
Challenge Ultima Weapon
Nintendo lists a showdown with Ultima Weapon among the game’s discoveries. Ultima Weapon is presented as an optional confrontation, not as part of the required ending. Its exact location, prerequisites, reward and difficulty are not published in the pre-release material, so the launch game will need to answer whether it is a late-story encounter or a postgame superboss.
Search for Sephiroth
Square Enix’s PlayStation Blog says, “Players will be able to find and challenge Sephiroth in hopes of winning and unlocking a special reward.” This confirms a discoverable, optional challenge and a reward tied to success. It does not say whether Sephiroth appears after the credits, during the main campaign, or behind a side quest. It also does not disclose the reward’s function or whether the encounter can be repeated.

How the game’s progression systems may support optional play
Final Fantasy Resonance is built around systems that make side exploration relevant even without a confirmed NG+ mode. Square Enix describes side quests that unlock espers, a vision-based ability system and legacy Final Fantasy character Visions.
Side quests and espers
Side quests can unlock espers, giving optional objectives a direct mechanical payoff. The available information does not list every esper or explain whether any are missable, so it would be premature to treat the side-quest system as a postgame checklist. It does establish that optional questing can expand a player’s tools rather than merely provide dialogue or lore.
Vision-based abilities
The vision system provides another reason to experiment with builds while exploring optional encounters. Official descriptions do not publish a complete ability tree, respec policy or carry-over rule. Consequently, Visions should be understood as a core build system, not as proof that a second playthrough exists.

Visions of characters from earlier Final Fantasy games are part of the game’s identity and progression framework. Their exact acquisition conditions and endgame role remain unspecified. They may reward exploration, side quests or combat milestones, but no announcement confirms that collecting them requires finishing the story first.

Square Enix also describes the project as “the first HD-2D game in the FINAL FANTASY series.” That visual format does not determine whether the game has NG+, a traditional postgame save or a boss-rush mode; those are separate design decisions that require explicit confirmation.
Demo save transfer is not New Game Plus
The official demo covers the opening through the first chapter and lasts approximately three to five hours. Square Enix states, “Save data from the demo can also be carried over to the full game.” This is the only explicit save-transfer feature documented in the pre-release information.
Demo transfer and NG+ solve different problems:
- Demo transfer moves an early-game save into the retail release so you do not need to replay the opening chapter.
- New Game Plus normally starts a new campaign after completion while preserving selected late-game progress.
Transferring a first-chapter save therefore says nothing about endgame carry-over. It does not confirm retained levels, equipment, Visions, currencies, quest flags or stronger enemies in a second run.
Release context and available editions
Final Fantasy Resonance is scheduled for October 22, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The announcement includes Steam and the Microsoft Store on Windows. At the October 18 information date, the game had not yet launched, which explains why launch-only features such as a completed-save menu or post-credits chapter may not have been documented.

| Edition | Listed US price | Contents stated by Square Enix |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | US$49.99 | Base game. |
| Digital Deluxe | US$59.99 | Base game and listed digital deluxe bonuses; the pre-release summary does not specify those bonuses individually. |
| Collector’s | US$209.99 | Base game, Digital Deluxe bonuses, an artbook, soundtrack and a promotional Final Fantasy Trading Card Game card. |
Edition contents do not establish access to a different story route or an exclusive NG+ mode. Unless Square Enix says otherwise, treat the modes and optional encounters as game-wide features rather than edition-specific content.
What is still unknown at launch
Several practical questions remain open and should be checked against the launch build, an official guide or post-launch patch notes:
- Whether a completed save unlocks a named New Game Plus option.
- Which levels, equipment, Visions, currencies and quest flags carry over, if any.
- Whether enemy strength, boss behavior or reward tables change in a replay.
- Whether Gilgamesh, the Colosseum, Chamber of Arms, Ultima Weapon and Sephiroth are available before the ending, after the credits or through separate conditions.
- Whether a completed save lets you return to the world and finish side content without beginning a new run.
- Whether the Colosseum supports repeated clears and how its rewards work.
These are not minor technicalities: they determine whether players should finish every side objective before the final battle or can safely postpone those activities. Until the release documentation answers them, avoid guides that present a definitive NG+ route based only on pre-release descriptions.
How to plan your first playthrough
- Use the demo transfer if you played the demo. Keep the demo save on the same platform and follow the retail game’s import prompt. The documented transfer covers the opening and first chapter, not a completed-game state.
- Investigate optional markers and side quests. Side quests are confirmed to unlock espers, so they have progression value beyond completion percentage.
- Record optional encounters you have not cleared. Keep track of Gilgamesh, Colosseum battles, Chamber of Arms fights, Ultima Weapon and Sephiroth separately from the main objective until their unlock order is known.
- Check the completed-save screen after the ending. Look for a new mode, a “clear data” option, a chapter select feature or a prompt to continue. Do not overwrite your only completed save until you know whether free exploration is supported.
- Read the launch notes for carry-over rules. The presence of a second playthrough is less important than the exact list of retained and reset systems.
This approach preserves flexibility without assuming that every optional boss is postgame or that a second run exists.
Bottom line
Before launch, Final Fantasy Resonance has no officially confirmed New Game Plus mode. The game does promise substantial optional content—Gilgamesh, the Colosseum, the Chamber of Arms, Ultima Weapon and a special-reward Sephiroth challenge—but the available announcements do not identify any of them as strictly post-credits. The only confirmed save transfer is the three-to-five-hour demo’s progress into the full game. A definitive answer about NG+ and the postgame will require launch documentation or verified gameplay after October 22, 2026.
