It does not confirm native Xbox, PlayStation, or other controller support, and it does not document local or online co-op.

Steam Cloud appears in the feature list, but cloud synchronization does not prove that an internet connection is required or that every part of the game works in Steam Offline Mode. What kind of game is Escape from EloHell?
Escape from EloHell is a single-player strategy roguelike that turns competitive ladder climbing into a sequence of quick decisions. That design matters for the input question: the core interaction is selection and confirmation rather than rapid camera movement, aiming, or button-combination combat. The official accessibility metadata’s “Mouse Only Option” is consistent with a pointer-first interface. It does not, however, tell us that a keyboard is required, nor does it substitute for a complete controller map.
Controller support: what is confirmed and what is not
The official metadata does not promise native gamepad support
The Steam store information does not list controller support among the game’s features. SteamDB contains a controller-tag field, but a tag is metadata, not a specification of implemented bindings. It cannot establish that every menu, match action, token, or upgrade screen responds correctly to an Xbox, PlayStation, or generic USB pad.
For that reason, the accurate answer is not “yes” or “no,” but controller support is unconfirmed. A controller may be made to send mouse or keyboard inputs through a software layer, yet that is different from a developer-provided, fully tested gamepad mode. You should not buy a controller specifically for this game expecting guaranteed compatibility.

A conventional mouse is the least speculative choice because the listing explicitly includes a mouse-only accessibility option. A wired gaming mouse is a practical option if you want a simple, low-latency pointer without relying on wireless drivers or an extra remapping layer. The game’s turn-like, one-click structure does not suggest that a high-end mouse is necessary; any reliable Windows mouse should cover the advertised interaction model.

How to try a controller without assuming support
If you already own a pad, you can test it as a personal workaround while keeping expectations realistic:
- Connect the controller before launching the game and confirm that Windows and Steam detect it.
- Open the game’s Steam controller settings and choose a community or custom layout only if one is available for this title.
- Map the left stick or directional pad to mouse movement, then assign a face button to left click and another to right click or a common keyboard action.
- Launch a low-risk session and test the title screen, menus, match selection, token use, and upgrade screens—not just the first board.
- Keep a mouse connected. If a menu cannot be reached or a remapped click behaves unpredictably, switch back to pointer input rather than treating the workaround as native support.
Community layouts can disappear, conflict with desktop bindings, or fail after a game update. They also may not expose every action. A successful personal mapping therefore demonstrates only that your setup can inject inputs; it does not change the game’s published support status.
Is Escape from EloHell co-op or multiplayer?
The advertised mode is single-player
The official feature list labels Escape from EloHell Single-player. The store description presents the climb as an individual alternative to toxic teammates and “hostage games,” reinforcing that the intended progression is a solo ladder simulation. No local co-op, online co-op, versus mode, matchmaking queue, or multiplayer category is listed.
That means two people cannot be expected to share a campaign, take turns through a supported local mode, or join the same match over the internet. You can, of course, discuss decisions or watch someone play, but those are social activities outside the game’s advertised feature set. There is no documented shared progression system, second-player input profile, or invitation flow to configure.

Do Steam Cloud and Family Sharing change the answer?
No. Steam Cloud synchronizes supported save data between installations, while Family Sharing concerns account-level access to eligible games. Neither feature creates simultaneous multiplayer, local co-op, or a shared ladder. A family member may be able to access a shared library under Steam’s rules, but that is separate from playing together inside one Escape from EloHell session.
Does it work offline?
Why the answer is undocumented
The store page lists Steam Cloud but does not state an internet requirement, an offline mode, or which features remain available without a connection. Cloud synchronization normally needs connectivity when it uploads or downloads data, but its presence says nothing definitive about whether the game itself checks in at launch. Conversely, the lack of an offline badge is not proof that offline play is impossible.
Describe offline compatibility as unconfirmed. Do not rely on the Steam Cloud entry as evidence either way, and do not assume that a successful launch without a network will prove every feature works offline. A game may open while cloud synchronization, achievements, first-run authentication, or another service remains unavailable.
A cautious way to test Steam Offline Mode
- While online, install the game and launch it once so Steam can finish installation, first-run setup, and any updates.
- Reach the main menu and start a save. Allow Steam Cloud to complete synchronization if Steam displays a pending upload or download.
- Exit the game normally. In the Steam client, choose Steam > Go Offline and follow the restart prompt.
- Launch Escape from EloHell in Offline Mode and check whether the title reaches its menu and allows a new or existing run.
- Test the specific functions you care about—loading a save, resolving matches, spending tokens, and applying upgrades—rather than stopping after the splash screen.
- Return to online mode before switching computers. Check for a cloud-conflict prompt and choose the newer save deliberately; do not overwrite a preferred run by clicking through the dialog.
This procedure is a user-side check, not an official guarantee. A future patch, account state, or Steam requirement can change the result, so players who need dependable no-internet access should wait for an explicit developer statement.

Do you need a mouse and keyboard?
You should have a mouse available. The “Mouse Only Option” explicitly identifies mouse input as a supported accessibility path, and the game’s one-click match resolution is naturally suited to pointer control. The listing does not provide a detailed keyboard requirement, so it would be too strong to claim that every keyboard function is mandatory or that every action is available from the keyboard alone.
If you are using a laptop trackpad, it may be sufficient for the game’s deliberate pace, although a separate mouse can make repeated board selections and small interface targets more comfortable. “Playable at Your Own Pace,” another accessibility label on the listing, describes the game’s tempo; it should not be read as evidence of controller compatibility or a pause-anywhere guarantee.

The game’s goal is a climb toward Rank 1. A PC Gamer hands-on report by Elie Gould, published 11 October 2026, describes a path from Iron 4 to Challenger, rank 1, in 60 matches before a season reset. Gould reported 48 wins and 12 losses during that author play session. Those figures describe one dated hands-on run, not a developer-published average, a player-population statistic, or a guarantee that every player will reach the same rank in the same number of matches.

Windows requirements and Steam features
The official listing provides minimum requirements for Windows 10. The supplied information does not include the processor, memory, graphics, storage, or DirectX values, so those specifications should be checked on the current Steam page before installing on an older PC.
