No. Buying the Squadron 42 standalone pledge does not include access to Star Citizen. To play Star Citizen, your RSI account needs a Game Package that explicitly includes it. Check the package description before purchasing, or check My Hangar in your RSI account if you already own pledges.
What does the Squadron 42 standalone pledge include?
It is a pledge for Squadron 42, the single-player campaign. It is distinct from a Star Citizen Game Package, which RSI describes as including a digital download of Star Citizen, a ship, and any other items listed for that offer. RSI’s Get Started checklist identifies the Squadron 42 standalone pledge as the exception to packages that include Star Citizen.
That distinction is about the entitlements attached to the pledge, not a guarantee that every store offer has identical extras. Read the specific product listing and confirm that it names Star Citizen if you want access to the live game.

How to check whether you have Star Citizen access
Before you buy
Compare the offer’s listed entitlements: whether it includes Star Citizen, whether it includes Squadron 42, and which ship or other items are part of that particular offer. If Star Citizen access matters, do not assume the campaign pledge provides it; look for a Game Package that explicitly lists Star Citizen.

Can you add Squadron 42 when buying a Star Citizen package?
RSI says a discounted Squadron 42 add-on may appear during checkout for qualifying packages. It is order-specific, so not every buyer will see the offer. If it is available and you want it, add it before completing the order; RSI says the checkout offer cannot be applied retroactively after the order is complete. See the RSI Orders FAQ for its current guidance.

Can you download Squadron 42 now?
RSI’s download FAQ, updated February 4, 2026, says Squadron 42 is in development and unavailable for download. RSI says access will be available after development, testing, and release, and that accounts with a pledge containing Squadron 42 will then be able to download it. That guidance gives no release date.

Why do some older guides say one package included both?
Older packages can have different entitlements. In its February 9, 2016 package-split announcement, RSI said packages sold before February 14, 2016 included persistent-universe access and that existing backers’ packages were not affected by the split. New packages sold after the split let buyers choose the single-player campaign or persistent universe separately, with the option to add the other module.
So, an older account may contain both entitlements even though the current Squadron 42 standalone pledge does not include a Star Citizen Game Package. Check the contents of your own account rather than relying on a guide written for a past offer. Prices shown in the 2016 announcement were described as not final and subject to change; they are not current price guidance.

Check the terms for your specific pledge
RSI’s Terms of Service describe contributions as pledges toward development; the selected pledge determines whether it grants Star Citizen alpha access, certain in-game items, and/or Squadron 42. The terms also describe a 30-day withdrawal period for qualifying pledge items after access is received, subject to conditions and exceptions. Because eligibility depends on the applicable terms and order, read the terms for your transaction rather than assuming a general refund guarantee.
