Yes, but only optionally. Lotus Apps says Bobara uses a coarse location while the app is in use to request weather from Apple WeatherKit. If you deny access, the developer says Momo’s sky stays clear and Bobara does not ask again. There is no published Bobara accuracy percentage or independent validation study, so WeatherKit support does not prove that the display will match conditions at your exact address.
What Bobara uses your location for
Bobara is an entertainment app from Lotus Apps, LLC for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Its weather feature changes the scene around Momo’s onsen to reflect rain, snow, wind and thunderstorms. The app also offers Home Screen widgets and an Apple Watch complication. Its other central feature is a log of boba teas that you actually bought.
Location is used to make the weather scene local. Lotus Apps describes the behavior this way: if you allow access, “the sky follows your real weather through Apple’s WeatherKit, using a coarse location only while the app is in use.” That wording matters. It describes an approximate, foreground lookup, not a continuously updated precise-location trail.

The developer specifically documents declining the permission, not every possible iOS configuration. If you turn off Location Services globally, iOS prevents Bobara from obtaining a location. No separate Bobara test or manual-place feature is documented for that case, so you should not expect a local weather scene when location access is blocked.

Can Bobara track where you are?
The documented design is limited to coarse location while Bobara is being used. It does not describe a precise GPS history, a background tracking service or a continuously recorded route. In other words, Bobara can use an approximate location during foreground use, but the available developer description does not establish that it follows you in the background.
That distinction is different from a formal privacy audit. The App Store listing reports “Data Not Collected,” and Lotus Apps says Bobara has no account, sign-in or analytics. Apple notes that the App Store privacy label is a developer-provided disclosure that Apple has not independently verified. The public material therefore tells you what the developer reports, not what an independent auditor has confirmed.
The public information also does not establish a background-refresh schedule, a complete privacy-policy summary or a retention period for any transient location request. Those details should be treated as unresolved rather than inferred from normal iPhone behavior.

How Bobara’s weather display is produced
The flow is straightforward:
- You grant Bobara location access, or leave it denied.
- When access is available and the app is in use, Bobara obtains a coarse location.
- That location is used with Apple WeatherKit to obtain weather information.
- Bobara translates the weather state into an onsen scene, widget or watch complication showing conditions such as rain, snow, wind or thunderstorms.
WeatherKit identifies the service behind the weather data; it is not a guarantee about the precision of the final scene at your home. The app is presenting a weather-themed status, not publishing a Bobara-specific meteorological measurement or accuracy score.
How accurate are Bobara’s forecasts?
No Bobara-specific forecast score, back-test, station comparison or independent accuracy study has been published in the available sources. There is consequently no defensible percentage for “Bobara accuracy,” and it would be misleading to substitute a general WeatherKit reputation for a measurement of Bobara itself.
A weather service can be broadly right for a neighborhood and still be wrong at one address. Meteorological guidance from Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology explains several reasons:

The Bureau also cautions that a station observation is not the same thing as the forecast grid for a selected location. That distinction explains why a weather app can be reasonable at the regional level while its visual appears out of step with what you see through the window.

What wider survey evidence can—and cannot—tell you
A NOAA-repository study reported that 51.5% of respondents thought a weather-app forecast covered their town, while 22.3% thought it covered their specific location. Among respondents who had observed rain nearby, 71.3% called the forecast accurate and 19.2% called it neither accurate nor inaccurate. NOAA reported those figures in 2024.
Those numbers describe people’s interpretation of weather-app forecasts, not Bobara’s performance and not an Apple WeatherKit validation test. They are useful context for setting expectations: “local” in an app often means a forecast area, not a sensor at your exact building.

Why Bobara may show different weather from outside
It may be raining nearby, not in the forecast cell
Showers can be highly localized. If the rain falls on one side of a town or along a nearby ridge, a grid-based forecast can remain dry for your selected area even while you see rain a short distance away. The reverse is also possible: the scene can show rain while your immediate street remains dry.
The app may be using an approximate position
Bobara’s documented request is coarse location. Approximate positioning protects privacy but can place the request in a broader area than your exact address. Network-based positioning can introduce another difference between the location you expect and the location used for the weather request.

Terrain changes conditions quickly
Elevation, valleys, hills, coastlines and urban surfaces affect wind and precipitation. A forecast representative of a wider area cannot account perfectly for every microclimate, even when the underlying provider is functioning normally.

The display is not a live rain gauge
Bobara’s scene is a visual interpretation of weather data. The public material does not promise a particular refresh interval for the app, widgets or watch complication. If a condition changed recently, the visual may not change at the same moment you notice it outdoors. No Bobara-specific refresh guarantee has been published.

- Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services on your iPhone or iPad.
- Confirm that Location Services is enabled, then select Bobara and review its permission. iOS labels can vary by version; choose the available option that permits use while the app is open if that is what you want.
- Reopen Bobara in the foreground. The developer’s description ties the weather request to app use, so checking the scene while the app is closed is not a documented way to force a new lookup.
- If you previously selected “Don’t Allow,” remember that Lotus Apps says Bobara does not ask again. You must change the permission in Settings rather than waiting for another prompt.
- If access is enabled but the scene still does not match outside, treat that as a forecast or location-resolution difference rather than proof that Bobara is tracking you incorrectly. The documented service has no published address-level accuracy guarantee.
There is no documented manual place-selection mode that substitutes a town or postcode when location permission is denied. If that feature is added in a later release, it would change the fallback behavior; the current public description does not promise it.
Privacy, availability and the boba log
Lotus Apps describes Bobara as a $4.99 one-time purchase planned for November 9, 2026. That is a planned availability and price statement, not a guarantee that every storefront region will show the same date or price. The listing covers iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

If you want to build that collection at home, an optional boba tea kit can provide drinks to try and log; it does not improve the weather data or change location permissions.
For privacy decisions, separate the claims into two categories: the developer says there is no account, sign-in or analytics and reports “Data Not Collected” in the App Store; the documented location behavior says coarse access is used while the app is in use when permission is granted. The App Store disclosure remains self-reported, so it should not be read as an independent certification.
What Bobara can and cannot tell you
- It can: use an approximate foreground location, request weather through Apple WeatherKit and turn broad conditions into an onsen animation or complication.
- It can: operate without location permission in the limited sense that the developer describes—the sky remains clear and no repeat prompt appears.
- It cannot currently be rated with: a Bobara-specific accuracy percentage, station-comparison result or published back-test.
- It should not be treated as: a precise sensor at your address, a guarantee of minute-by-minute conditions or documented proof of background location tracking.
The practical verdict is narrow but useful: grant access if you want Bobara’s weather-themed scene to follow your approximate local conditions. Decline or disable access if you do not want that lookup, accepting the clear-sky fallback. For decisions that depend on exact timing, severe weather or conditions at one property, consult a full weather service and local observations rather than relying on Bobara’s animation alone.
