Usually, no. A One UI update does not automatically mean that you must remove and reinstall every Good Lock module. Samsung’s guidance is to update Good Lock and each installed module in Galaxy Store, restart the phone, and reinstall only the module that remains faulty after those steps. Compatibility fixes can arrive after the system update, especially on beta software.
Why a One UI update does not normally require a full reinstall
Good Lock is delivered as a main app plus separate customization modules. The phone’s One UI package and those modules are not updated as one inseparable installation. Samsung Community Manager guidance published on May 14, 2026, explains that modules are updated separately from the main One UI system update and that temporary compatibility problems can appear until the module updates are released.
That separation is why reinstalling everything immediately is usually the wrong first move. A module may simply need its newer build from Galaxy Store. Removing and reinstalling modules that are already current adds work and can complicate troubleshooting without addressing the actual cause.
There is no single rule that covers every Galaxy model, carrier, region, One UI release, and Good Lock module. The practical rule is narrower: update first, restart second, repair the affected module third, and reinstall only that module if it still fails.

What to do immediately after a One UI update
- Open Galaxy Store. Check for an update to Good Lock itself. Then open the update list and install updates for every Good Lock module you use. A module may have a separate update even when the Good Lock app already shows as current.
- Restart the phone. After the available app and module updates finish, restart the device before judging whether compatibility has been restored. This gives the updated components a clean system session.
- Test the feature that failed. Reproduce the original problem rather than assuming that every module is broken. Check the Home screen, lock screen, notification, or other customization that was affected.
- Clear the affected module’s cache. Go to Settings > Apps > Good Lock, or select the specific module that is malfunctioning, then choose Storage > Clear cache. Reopen the module and test again.
- Reinstall only the affected module if necessary. If the same module still fails after its update, a restart, and cache clearing, remove and reinstall that module from Galaxy Store. Do not treat this as a reason to indiscriminately remove every module.
This order follows Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance and preserves a useful diagnosis: you can tell whether the problem was an unavailable compatibility update, stale cached data, or a genuinely damaged module installation.
Choose the least disruptive fix for the symptom

How compatibility catches up after a major One UI release
System updates can change interfaces, permissions, background behavior, or framework components that customization modules depend on. Good Lock developers then publish module updates that account for those changes. The system package may therefore arrive before every compatible module version is available in your region.
Samsung’s May 14, 2026 response about a One UI 8.5 compatibility report specifically warned that temporary issues can occur until module updates are released. That statement describes a compatibility window, not a requirement to reinstall. Keep checking Galaxy Store for the module update rather than repeatedly removing and adding the same software.

Availability can also vary by device, carrier, network, and region. Samsung’s One UI upgrade information states that features and availability are not identical across all devices. A module that works on one Galaxy model or software channel may not yet expose the same function on another.
Stable One UI and beta One UI require different expectations
A stable release and a beta release should not be troubleshot as though they have the same level of compatibility.

Samsung’s One UI 9 beta guidance in May 2026 explicitly warned about temporary module limitations. Reinstalling a module cannot supply a compatibility change that has not yet been published. On beta software, the correct remedy may simply be waiting for a compatible module or a later beta build, while reporting the problem through Samsung Members.

A concrete example: Lock Star and Adaptive Clock
Samsung’s support documentation for the Adaptive Clock, also called Stretch Clock, illustrates why checking the module version matters. On Android 16 and One UI 8, Samsung identified an outdated Lock Star version as a cause of the Adaptive Clock issue and pointed to a newer Lock Star version as the fix.

If a particular feature is named in a Samsung support notice, update the module associated with that feature before considering a reinstall. The fact that Lock Star needed a newer version does not establish that all other modules must be removed after every One UI upgrade.
Clearing cache, clearing data, and reinstalling are not the same
Clear cache first
Cache clearing removes temporary files used by the app. It is the least disruptive repair in Samsung’s suggested sequence and is appropriate when a module updated successfully but still behaves as though it is using stale information.

Be cautious with Clear data
The standard path also shows a Clear data control in the module’s storage screen, but the available guidance does not establish that Good Lock settings are always preserved after clearing data. Do not promise yourself that layouts, preferences, or other customizations will remain unchanged. If you use this option, treat it as a reset and make sure you understand what the module may ask you to configure again.
Reinstall only when the affected module still fails
Reinstalling replaces the module package and can correct a damaged installation or an incomplete update. It is a fallback after Galaxy Store updates, a restart, and cache clearing—not a routine step after every One UI release. Because the evidence does not guarantee preservation of all settings after removal, record any important customizations before uninstalling.
Confirm that the phone itself finished updating
Before diagnosing Good Lock, verify that the One UI installation completed successfully. On a Galaxy phone, open Settings > Software update > Download and install and check the reported software status. If the device is still finishing an update, has pending restarts, or is showing an update error, resolve that condition first.

Samsung notes that software features and availability can vary by device, carrier, and network. A missing option is not automatically a broken module; it may be unavailable for that model or software configuration. Compare the behavior with the module’s current Galaxy Store description and Samsung’s support information for your device before removing software.
When a targeted reinstall does not solve the problem
If the affected module remains broken after its Galaxy Store update, a restart, cache clearing, and a targeted reinstall, collect details before escalating:
- Galaxy model and country or carrier variant
- One UI and Android version shown in Settings > About phone > Software information
- Good Lock version and the exact module version
- The feature that fails and the steps that reproduce it
- Whether the phone is on a stable release or a One UI beta
- Any error message, missing control, or visual change
For beta software, submit unresolved reports through Samsung Members as directed by Samsung’s beta guidance. For a stable release, use Samsung’s support channels with the same version and reproduction details. This prevents support from treating a compatibility limitation as an installation fault.
A maintenance routine that avoids unnecessary reinstalls
- After a major One UI update, open Galaxy Store and review Good Lock plus each module you actually use.
- Install available module updates before changing settings or removing software.
- Restart once after the updates finish.
- Test the specific customization that matters to you instead of assuming every module needs repair.
- Keep a note of important layouts and preferences before any uninstall or data reset.
- If only one module fails, keep unrelated modules installed and troubleshoot the failing one in isolation.
- On beta software, expect temporary incompatibilities and check Samsung Members for reporting instructions.
The result is a controlled repair process: you update the components that are designed to change independently, use cache clearing for a stale local state, and reserve reinstallation for the module that remains demonstrably defective.
