Short answer: No documented loading-screen mod in the available evidence delivers a meaningful, measured performance upgrade. These projects mainly remove, replace, or hide the transition artwork while Starfield is still preparing the next area. The author of Black Loading Screen Remover states that it does not make the game load faster, while Immersive Loading Screens describes any possible saving as theoretical and very limited. Install one for a less intrusive transition—not for higher frame rates or reliably shorter waits.
What “better performance” means in this case
Starfield’s loading transition has two separate parts: the work the game performs while preparing a destination, and the visual presentation shown while that work happens. A mod can alter the second part without reducing the first. Removing a progress bar, replacing a textured screen with a blank field, or allowing a scene to remain visible during preparation changes what you see; it does not prove that the destination is ready sooner.

That distinction matters because a hidden transition can feel faster even when the elapsed time is unchanged. It also explains why these mods are not a general solution for low frame rates, stutter after arriving in a new cell, or slow asset streaming. The documented authors do not publish a benchmark showing a meaningful reduction in loading time, and neither page supports promising an FPS increase.
Documented options at a glance
| Mod | Current information | What it changes | Visual and comfort considerations | Interface compatibility | Loading-time evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Immersive Loading Screens | Version 3.0; the page notes a fix for code-loading errors caused by the Free Lanes update. | Removes the loading-screen texture reference and related background/progress-bar assets, and streamlines loading-menu ActionScript so the world can render during transitions. | Designed to keep the world visible rather than show the standard screen. The page does not promise a quantified gain. | Can work with other UI mods unless they also change loadingmenu.swf or fadermenu.swf. |
The author says the script optimization could theoretically reduce loading time slightly, but the effect is very limited. |
| Black Loading Screen Remover | Version 1.1.1b, last updated 5 September 2023; compatibility should be checked before use on a current installation. | One variant removes short loading screens. A white-screen variant hides scene preparation while retaining long loading screens. | The removed-screen variant can show artifacts, including a brief star frame during grav jumps. The white-screen option has fewer visual glitches but may be uncomfortable for light-sensitive users. | The author warns users to consolidate interface files and avoid competing interface-folder installs. | The author explicitly says: “THIS MOD DOES NOT MAKE YOUR GAME LOAD FASTER”. |
How Immersive Loading Screens works
Immersive Loading Screens is the newer of the two documented pages, listing version 3.0. Instead of simply covering the screen, it removes references to the standard loading texture and associated background and progress-bar assets. Its revised loading-menu logic is intended to let the game world remain visible while the transition is in progress.

- Start your journey by customizing your appearance and deciding your Background and Traits
- Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets
- Pilot and command the ship of your dreams.
The page also describes an optimization to the menu’s ActionScript. That change might theoretically shave a small amount of overhead from the menu code, but the author characterizes any loading-time effect as very limited. Treat the mod as a presentation and immersion change; do not use the theoretical wording as a performance guarantee.
Version history matters here. The page says version 3.0 corrected code-loading errors introduced by the Free Lanes update. If an older package causes a failure after a game update, replacing it with the current package listed on the page is a more sensible first step than changing unrelated graphics settings.
Installation outline
The mod’s instructions use the game’s interface directory and an archive-setting entry in StarfieldCustom.ini. Because the required archive lines can change with game updates, copy the exact settings shown on the current mod page rather than relying on a line reproduced elsewhere.
- Close Starfield and make a backup of any existing files in the game’s
DataInterfacefolder. A backup gives you a clean rollback if another interface mod is already installed. - Download the current version from the Immersive Loading Screens page and inspect the archive before extracting it.
- Preserve the package’s directory structure so its files end up under
StarfieldDataInterface, not in an extra nested folder created by the archive extractor. - Create or edit
StarfieldCustom.iniusing the archive settings specified by the current instructions. Do not substitute settings from a different mod or an old guide. - Launch the game and test a grav jump, an interior-to-exterior transition, and a location change. Check both the transition itself and the first few seconds after arrival.
Compatibility checks
Immersive Loading Screens can coexist with other UI modifications only when those modifications do not also alter loadingmenu.swf and fadermenu.swf. Those files are the important conflict points named by the author. If two packages replace the same file, the one installed last may silently overwrite the other, producing missing menus, a broken transition, or a return to the vanilla screen.
- List every installed interface mod before copying new files.
- Compare the filenames in each package, paying particular attention to
loadingmenu.swfandfadermenu.swf. - Install and test one interface change at a time so a failure has an identifiable cause.
- If the game stops loading after an update, remove the mod files, confirm the unmodified game starts, and then reinstall the current package and its current archive settings.
How Black Loading Screen Remover differs
Black Loading Screen Remover offers two distinct experiences. The removed-screen version targets short transitions and can expose the scene as it is being prepared. The white-screen version hides that preparation behind a white display, reduces some of the visible artifacts, and leaves long loading screens in place. Neither option is presented as a faster-loading mode.
The page is older than the Immersive Loading Screens page: version 1.1.1b was last updated on 5 September 2023. That does not automatically make it unusable, but it does mean you should verify the current game version, comments, and installation notes before putting it into a modern setup.
Choose between the two variants
- Removed-screen variant: choose this when seeing the surrounding world is more important than a perfectly clean transition. The author warns about visual glitches, including a short star frame during grav jumps. Some third-person camera artifacts may be less noticeable when playing in first person.
- White-screen variant: choose this when you prefer fewer scene artifacts and can tolerate a blank white presentation. The author cautions that it may be uncomfortable for light-sensitive users, and long loading screens remain visible.
Installation and file-management precautions
The author specifically cautions users to consolidate interface files and avoid competing installations in the interface folder. In practice, that means treating the mod as a replacement for other packages that edit the same files, not as an additional layer you can safely stack without checking.

- The goal of this epic journey? The answer to humanity's greatest question
- Read the current Nexus Mods description and confirm that version 1.1.1b is appropriate for your game build.
- Back up the existing interface files before extracting either variant.
- Install only one Black Loading Screen Remover variant at a time, following the archive’s included path.
- Remove or merge conflicting interface files instead of allowing several packages to overwrite one another unpredictably.
- Test a short transition and a long transition. The white-screen option is expected to leave long transitions visible.
What to expect after installation
A successful installation changes the transition’s appearance first. Depending on the selected project, you may see the world remain visible, a white field replace scene preparation, or short screens disappear while longer ones remain. You should not infer from that visual change that the next cell finished loading earlier.
The first arrival at a location can still involve asset streaming after the transition ends. If the destination appears briefly incomplete, that is consistent with a presentation mod exposing more of the underlying transition rather than eliminating the work. Judge the mod by comfort and immersion, not by whether a hidden loading phase has been proven to be shorter.
How to test whether your own waits changed
No cited page supplies a controlled benchmark. If you want to measure your setup rather than rely on perception, use the same save and route before and after installation.
- Choose two repeatable transitions, such as the same grav jump and the same interior entrance.
- Record the time from the transition command to the moment you regain control. Keep the save location, destination, game settings, and camera perspective constant.
- Run several trials without the mod, separating first-load results from repeats after assets are already cached. Record the two groups separately.
- Install one mod or one variant, then repeat the same trials under the same conditions.
- Record visual artifacts, delayed textures, input availability, and any crash or menu problem alongside the stopwatch result.
- Interpret small differences cautiously. A changed route, a different save state, background applications, or cached assets can affect a single run.
This procedure can tell you whether the change matters on your machine, but it cannot turn an unmeasured mod claim into a universal performance promise. Share results with the exact game build, mod version, route, and test conditions if you report them.

Troubleshooting common problems
The game fails while loading or returns to the desktop
Start by removing the new interface files and confirming that the unmodified game reaches the main menu. For Immersive Loading Screens, confirm that you installed version 3.0 or a newer page revision that includes the Free Lanes code-loading fix. Reapply the archive settings exactly as the current instructions state, then test before adding other interface packages.
Menus or transitions look broken
Check for another mod that replaces loadingmenu.swf or fadermenu.swf. Immersive Loading Screens identifies those files as compatibility boundaries. For Black Loading Screen Remover, consolidate duplicate interface files and remove older copies before reinstalling the chosen variant.
You see a star frame or camera artifact during a grav jump
That behavior is a documented caveat of Black Loading Screen Remover’s removed-screen option. Try the white-screen variant if its comfort characteristics are acceptable, or use first-person view to reduce some third-person camera artifacts. If the artifact remains distracting, restore the original interface files.

Will you be an experienced explorer, a charming diplomat, a stealthy cyber runner, or something else entirely? The choice is yours. Decide who you will be and what you will become.
- EXPLORE OUTER SPACE - Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets. Navigate bustling cities, explore dangerous bases, and traverse wild landscapes. Meet and recruit a memorable cast of characters, join in the adventures of various factions, and embark on quests across the Settled Systems. A new story or experience is always waiting to be discovered.
- CAPTAIN THE SHIP OF YOUR DREAMS - Pilot and command the ship of your dreams. Personalize the look of your ship, modify critical systems including weapons and shields, and assign crew members to provide unique bonuses. In deep space you will engage in high-stakes dogfights, encounter random missions, dock at star stations, and even board and commandeer enemy ships to add to your collection.
- DISCOVER, COLLECT, BUILD - Explore planets and discover the fauna, flora, and resources needed to craft everything from medicine and food to equipment and weapons. Build outposts and hire a crew to passively extract materials and establish cargo links to transfer resources between them. Invest these raw materials into research projects to unlock unique crafting recipes.
- LOCK AND LOAD - Space can be a dangerous place. A refined combat system gives you the tools to deal with any situation. Whether you prefer long-range rifles, laser weapons, or demolitions, each weapon type can be modified to complement your playstyle. Zero G environments add a chaotic spectacle to combat, while boost packs give players freedom to maneuver like never before.
The white presentation causes discomfort
The white-screen option can be uncomfortable for people sensitive to bright flashes or high-luminance screens. Stop using it if it causes discomfort and choose the removed-screen option or the unmodified transition instead. A cosmetic change is not worth a health risk.

Long loading screens are still present
That is expected with Black Loading Screen Remover’s white-screen variant, which hides scene preparation but preserves long loading screens. A visible long transition is not evidence that installation failed.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Emerging seamless-transition projects are not established performance fixes
Newer projects aim to make planetary travel look continuous rather than merely hide a conventional loading screen. Their development status is important: they should not be presented as generally available, tested performance upgrades.
Seamless planetary landing work
In a report dated 12 October 2026, PC Gamer described creator Frederik Wessberg’s seamless planetary-landing work as still in progress. The reported approach loads assets in the background while the game remains interactive, then switches cells after those assets finish loading. Cloud cover helps conceal the visual seam; it is not itself a conventional loading screen. The report does not establish a released, broadly compatible mod or quantify a loading-time or frame-rate gain. Read the 12 October 2026 report.
Seamless Planet Takeoffs
A separate PC Gamer report dated 21 July 2026 described Seamless Planet Takeoffs as a beta project that keeps the player in the cockpit while the ship ascends. Beta status means requirements and availability may change, and the report does not provide a quantified performance result. Verify the current release page and compatibility before treating it as an installation option. Read the 21 July 2026 report.
Which approach fits your goal?
| Your priority | Most suitable documented choice | Trade-off to accept |
|---|---|---|
| Keep the world visible during short transitions | Immersive Loading Screens | Interface-file conflicts require checking loadingmenu.swf and fadermenu.swf; any time saving is described as very limited. |
| Remove short screens and tolerate occasional artifacts | Black Loading Screen Remover, removed-screen variant | Possible star-frame and camera glitches; the 1.1.1b page is from 2023. |
| Reduce visible scene artifacts and accept a blank display | Black Loading Screen Remover, white-screen variant | Possible discomfort for light-sensitive users; long loading screens remain. |
| Seek continuous takeoffs or landings | Monitor the emerging beta and in-progress projects | Availability, requirements, compatibility, and performance impact are not established by the reports. |
| Increase frame rate or cure general stutter | None of these documented loading-screen mods | The evidence concerns transition presentation, not a measured graphics or CPU/GPU optimization. |
A safe rollback plan
Keep the backup made before installation and record which package supplied each interface file. To roll back, exit the game, restore the original files, remove the mod-specific archive settings from StarfieldCustom.ini if you added them solely for the mod, and launch once before reinstalling any other interface change. If the game works after the rollback, reintroduce mods individually so a conflict is easy to identify.
Do not judge a rollback by one successful menu load alone. Check a grav jump, a short transition, a long transition, and a location with a different interior or exterior boundary. A conflict can appear only on a particular transition type.
Bottom line
Loading-screen removers can make Starfield feel more continuous, but the documented evidence does not support calling them performance upgrades. Immersive Loading Screens (version 3.0) offers a world-visible transition and a claimed, very limited theoretical optimization. Black Loading Screen Remover offers removed-screen and white-screen presentations, with explicit artifact, comfort, compatibility, and age-related caveats. Install only after checking the current page instructions, keep interface backups, and measure your own repeatable routes if elapsed time matters. Treat the reported seamless landing and takeoff projects as works in progress rather than proven, generally available solutions.
