Yes—PS4 Shark Card GTA$ can transfer to PS5 if you migrate an eligible GTA Online profile from PS4 to PS5. Rockstar treats Shark Card proceeds as purchased GTA$, so the balance moves through profile migration; this is not a separate PS4 card-code redemption on PS5.
Do PS4 Shark Cards work on PS5?
They can, but the key is the GTA$ balance attached to your GTA Online profile—not a physical card that changes compatibility when you switch consoles. Rockstar says purchased GTA$ from Shark Cards can transfer between platforms in the same console family during profile migration. Its policy explicitly includes PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5. Rockstar’s GTA$ transfer policy was last updated October 4, 2024.

In other words, an eligible PS4 GTA Online profile must be migrated to PS5. The policy does not promise that you can redeem a PS4 Shark Card code independently on the PS5 version and have its value appear in your account.

Rockstar separates GTA$ by how it was obtained. That distinction matters if you are changing console families as well as generations.
#1 Best Overall
- STUNNING VISUALS — Enhanced levels of fidelity and performance with new graphics modes featuring up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, HDR options, ray tracing, improved texture quality, and more
- FASTER LOADING — Quicker access to the action as the world of Los Santos and Blaine County load in faster than ever before.
- ADAPTIVE TRIGGERS AND HAPTIC FEEDBACK — Feel every moment through the DualSense controller, from directional damage to weather effects, rough road surfaces to explosions, and more.
- TEMPEST 3D AUDIO — Hear the sounds of the world with pinpoint precision: the throttle of a stolen supercar, the rattle of neighbouring gunfire, the roar of a helicopter overhead, and more.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the European version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.
| GTA$ balance | Transfer rule |
|---|---|
| Purchased GTA$, including Shark Card proceeds | Transfers only between platforms in the same console family during GTA Online profile migration. PS4 to PS5 is a same-family route. |
| Earned GTA$, gained by playing | Transfers regardless of platform family during profile migration. |
So, do not assume that the cross-family rule for earned cash also applies to Shark Card funds. Rockstar’s policy identifies Shark Card money as purchased GTA$ and limits its transfer to platforms in the same family.

Some profiles may be ineligible, including profiles affected by suspension or a ban, or those that lack sufficient legitimate progress. Review the migration prompts and Rockstar’s account-specific guidance before confirming.

No. Rockstar says progress made on different console generations will not sync after migration. Your old profile remains on PS4, but activity on the separate generations does not continue to update as one shared profile. Treat migration as a transition, not ongoing cross-generation synchronization.

How do I buy a Shark Card on PlayStation?
Rockstar’s PlayStation Shark Card purchase instructions, last updated October 3, 2025, direct players to buy through GTA Online:
- Start a GTA Online session.
- Open the Pause menu and select the PlayStation Store tab.
- Choose the Shark Card you want and complete checkout.
This is the documented purchase route; a generic PlayStation gift card or an old code should not be treated as a guaranteed way to transfer existing GTA$ between console generations.

The game edition and Shark Card balance are separate. Rockstar’s PS5 upgrade information, last updated June 18, 2026, says PS4 GTAV owners can access the PS5 version through its PS5 PlayStation Store product page. If you own a physical PS4 disc, keep it inserted so the console can verify ownership. Store options and availability can vary by region and may change.
