Not automatically. A modern release of a PS1 game may be a remaster, remake, port, or original PS1 software running through a modern compatibility layer. Save transfer, cheat support, and multiplayer can differ among those releases—and even by platform, region, or update. Check the exact edition and feature rather than assuming that a familiar game name means the original experience is intact.
What counts as a PS1 remaster?
“PS1 remaster” is often used informally for several different kinds of release. That matters because an original PlayStation game running in an emulator is not necessarily built or packaged like a modern remaster. A remake may recreate the game in a new engine; a remaster may update the original presentation or code; a port may adapt an existing version to another platform; and a classic release may run the original PS1 software through a compatibility layer.
These categories do not, by themselves, prove which original features survive. A new release might keep the same gameplay but use a different save system. An emulated classic might add conveniences such as save-anywhere or rewind without importing data from a physical PS1 memory card. A mode that existed on the original hardware might also be missing or changed in a later edition.
Before looking for an answer, identify the product precisely: the game’s title, the modern release name or edition, the platform, the region, and—if relevant—the installed update. A product listing for one platform or region may not establish what another version supports.

Can I use my original PS1 save on the remaster?
Do not assume that you can. A save on an original PS1 memory card is different from a save created by a modern release, a console’s cloud save, or an emulator save state. Sony’s official material about selected PlayStation classics does not establish that data from an original PS1 memory card can be imported into those releases.
Know which kind of save you have

Sony’s May 23, 2022 PlayStation Plus guide says that selected original PlayStation and PSP classics in the renewed service would have an interface for saving at any time or rewinding. That describes features of the modern playing experience; it is not a promise of memory-card import. Sony also says downloaded PlayStation Plus catalog games save data to the PS4 or PS5 console used to play them. This describes where those downloaded games’ saves are stored, not how original PS1 data is converted.

Cloud storage does not close that compatibility gap. Sony’s PlayStation Plus support information describes cloud storage for PS4 and PS5 data. A cloud copy of a modern console save is still not evidence that a PS1 memory card save is readable by the modern release.
How to check save compatibility
- Confirm the exact release. Check the platform store listing, publisher’s product page, or release notes for the edition you own or plan to play. Look for explicit language such as “import save data” or a clear description of supported transfer methods.
- Look for the source and destination. A statement that saves transfer should identify what is being transferred from and to. “Cloud saves supported” or “save data supported” alone does not say that a physical PS1 memory-card save can be imported.
- Check the relevant version and region. If the documentation only names a particular platform, region, or update, keep the answer limited to that version. Do not extend it to every release of the game.
- Separate save states from ordinary saves. Confirm whether the feature is a quick snapshot, an in-game save, or an import tool. Those serve different purposes and are not interchangeable.
- If documentation is silent, treat import as unconfirmed. Do not erase, overwrite, or discard the original card on the assumption that the modern game can use it.
Do PS1 classics on PS5 support the original cheat codes?
There is no universal guarantee. The official Sony information described above discusses save-anywhere and rewind for selected classics, but it does not promise that every original button-sequence cheat works in every modern release. Nor does it establish a general policy for cheat menus, unlocks, or other cheat-related content.

Compatibility can depend on what the new version actually runs and how it handles input. A code may require a particular timing, controller layout, or original game version. A remake or substantially changed port may not implement the same code at all. Conversely, a release could include a built-in option or unlock without accepting the original sequence. None of those possibilities can be settled from the word “remaster.”
Verify the specific cheat feature
- Original button sequences: Find confirmation that the exact release accepts the code, not merely that the original PS1 game did.
- Built-in cheats or unlocks: Check the modern release’s official product information, manual, or update notes for its own feature list.
- Version-specific instructions: Match any documented code to the platform and game version. If a code is listed for the original PS1 release, that does not establish support in a later edition.
- Input differences: Check whether the release remaps controls or changes how inputs are read before concluding that a code is absent. Do not assume a failed sequence is proof either way unless the release’s documentation addresses it.
If the publisher does not document cheat support for the modern SKU, the accurate answer is that it is unconfirmed for that edition. Avoid treating community instructions for the original game as proof of compatibility.

Does the remastered version still have local multiplayer?
Only the exact release can answer that. “Multiplayer” can refer to same-console play, split-screen, a link mode, or online play. Those are different features, and retaining one does not mean retaining the others. A useful check names the original mode, its player count, and the modern version being considered.

Check the mode, not just the word “multiplayer”
- Identify how the original mode worked. Was it same-console, split-screen, link-based, or online? Record the original player count if it matters to your decision.
- Read the modern edition’s feature list or manual. Look for the specific mode and player count. A listing that only says “multiplayer” may not explain how it works.
- Distinguish local from online support. If the modern release advertises online play, that does not establish local play; if it advertises local play, that does not establish the original online functionality.
- Check platform and edition details. Multiplayer features can vary by release, and an answer for one platform or version should not be generalized to another without confirmation.
When the modern release’s official information does not identify the original mode, describe its status as unconfirmed rather than claiming it was retained or removed.
What to verify before buying or starting a new playthrough
Use this short comparison to avoid mixing up the original game with the modern product. Make one row for each release you are considering if there are multiple platforms or editions.

Prefer the publisher’s official product page, manual, and release notes for details about an individual game. For service-level facts, use the relevant Sony PlayStation Plus guide or support page. If those sources do not name the feature for the exact release, the safest useful answer is “not established,” not a guess based on the original.

Why the distinctions matter
Three common assumptions cause confusion. First, a modern save convenience is not automatically an import mechanism: saving at any time or rewinding does not show that old memory-card data can be read. Second, a cloud save is storage for supported modern console data, not a universal bridge between formats. Third, a release’s relationship to an original game does not settle whether each original feature survived.
That is why a broad question such as “Does the PS1 remaster keep everything?” has no dependable yes-or-no answer. A reliable answer is narrower: for this named edition on this platform and region, is this save type, this cheat behavior, or this multiplayer mode documented as supported?
