Yes—but only when the stick or controller is designed for your exact Xbox model. Hall Effect thumbsticks are available in complete Xbox-compatible controllers, while TMR replacements are listed for specific Xbox Series X|S wireless controllers. Proprietary magnetic modules can fit only their named controller families. A “Hall Effect” or “TMR” label by itself does not make a part compatible with every Xbox generation, and neither technology is independently proven to eliminate drift forever.
What “works on Xbox” actually means
There are three different products people call an Xbox Hall Effect or TMR upgrade:
| Product type | What you receive | Xbox compatibility question | Installation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Complete licensed controller | A new controller with magnetic thumbsticks already installed | Is the entire controller licensed for your console and supported operating system? | Replace the old controller; no soldering |
| Internal replacement kit | Joystick modules intended to replace the original circuit-board modules | Does the kit name your exact controller generation and model? | Open the controller and solder the new modules |
| Proprietary swappable module | A cartridge or mini-stick made for one controller family | Does your controller belong to the specified family? | Usually hot-swappable, but not a universal Xbox part |
Those categories matter more than the magnetic technology printed on the package. A part listed for an Xbox Series X|S wireless controller should not be assumed to fit an Xbox One controller, an Elite Series 1, or a third-party pad with a similar shell.
How Hall Effect and TMR thumbsticks sense movement
Both designs use magnets and sensors instead of the conventional mechanical contact arrangement used in many standard joystick modules. Moving the stick changes the magnetic field detected on the horizontal and vertical axes, and the controller converts those readings into thumbstick input.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That shared principle explains why both terms appear in discussions about stick drift and longevity. It does not prove that one is always more accurate or durable. The available product material establishes that compatible implementations exist, but it does not provide independent, head-to-head measurements of accuracy, lifetime, drift rate, or failure percentage. Treat claims such as “zero drift,” “永久,” or a specific lifespan as manufacturer claims unless a reproducible independent test is provided.
For a buyer, four practical questions are more useful than choosing a technology name:
- Exact fit: Is the part explicitly for your controller generation and model number?
- Installation method: Is it a complete controller, a tool-free module, or a soldering repair?
- Calibration support: Is there a documented firmware and calibration process for that product?
- Evidence quality: Are performance numbers independently measured, or only stated by the maker?
Xbox-compatible options that are documented
Complete controller with Hall Effect sticks
PowerA’s Advantage Wired Controller is described as officially licensed for Xbox Series X|S, compatible with Xbox One and Windows 10/11, and equipped with Hall Effect thumbsticks. Its Gamer HQ app can test and calibrate the controller. This is the lowest-effort route: you are buying a complete, supported controller rather than modifying an original Xbox pad.
Availability is volatile; the product page showed the selected style out of stock at the time of access. Check current stock, the exact console licensing statement, and operating-system support before purchasing. The documentation does not establish a particular drift rate or a guaranteed service life.

Internal TMR replacement for an Xbox Series X|S wireless controller
iFixit lists a GuliKit TMR replacement joystick kit for Xbox Series X|S Wireless Controllers. This is a repair part, not a plug-in accessory. The original joystick modules must be removed from the controller’s board and the replacements soldered in place. iFixit describes the work as requiring intermediate soldering skills.
The listing’s statement that no circuit modifications are required should not be read as “no tools” or “no soldering.” You still have to open the controller, desolder the original modules, solder the new ones, and reassemble it. The kit is specifically listed for the Series X|S wireless generation; iFixit does not recommend it for Xbox One controllers or Elite Series 1 (model 1698) because the required joystick-calibration software is unavailable for those models.
After installation, iFixit directs owners to update the controller and then use the Xbox Accessories recalibration option on an Xbox console or in the PC app. Firmware and calibration are part of the repair, not optional finishing touches.

ESWAP calibration has its own support requirements. Thrustmaster’s calibration article says the ESWAP X or ESWAP XR must be updated to at least firmware version v79.00; the instructions support SH5, S5, and S2 mini-sticks. That version threshold belongs to the ESWAP family and should not be transferred to the standard Xbox Wireless Controller or the Series X|S GuliKit repair.
Reported newer option: 8BitDo Ultimate 3E
Windows Central’s January 2026 coverage describes the 8BitDo Ultimate 3E as an Xbox-licensed controller with TMR sticks. The same report says 1000Hz polling and six-axis motion controls are PC-only. Treat release timing, regional availability, final specifications, and Xbox feature support as items to verify before purchase because the report is newer than the established product documentation above.
Compatibility checklist before you buy a part
- Identify the controller exactly. Record whether it is an Xbox Series X|S wireless controller, an Xbox One controller, an Elite Series 1 (model 1698), an ESWAP S/X/X2/XR, or another third-party model. Shell appearance is not enough.
- Read the compatibility line, not just the headline. A title that says “for Xbox” may refer to a complete licensed controller, a particular ESWAP family, or only one Xbox generation.
- Check the required work. “Replacement joystick” can mean board-level soldering. “Hot-swap” applies only when the product is designed for that controller’s sockets and firmware.
- Confirm calibration support. Look for a documented Xbox Accessories, PC-app, or manufacturer calibration workflow and the firmware version it requires.
- Check current availability and included hardware. Stock, regional licensing, included tools, and revision numbers can change. Do not assume a listing’s old photographs describe the current package.
How to install and set up the Series X|S TMR replacement
The following sequence reflects the documented process for the GuliKit kit listed for Xbox Series X|S wireless controllers. It is not a universal procedure for every Xbox controller or magnetic module.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Verify the model first. Proceed only if the controller matches the Series X|S wireless model named by the kit. Do not use this guide as approval for an Xbox One or Elite Series 1 repair.
- Plan for board-level soldering. Gather the appropriate opening tools, soldering equipment, and a way to protect the controller board from heat and static. If intermediate soldering is outside your experience, use a repair professional or choose a complete controller instead.
- Open the controller and expose the original modules. Follow a model-specific teardown guide. Keep track of screws, shell pieces, and cable connections so the assembly can be restored without pinching wires or leaving the board unsupported.
- Desolder and remove each original joystick module. Work carefully around the board; lifting a pad or overheating a trace can create damage unrelated to the original stick problem.
- Solder the replacement modules in the original positions. Inspect joints for bridges, incomplete connections, or a module that is not seated squarely before closing the shell.
- Reassemble and test basic input. Confirm that both axes and the stick-click switches respond before final troubleshooting. A mechanical fit does not guarantee an electrically correct installation.
- Update the controller firmware. iFixit’s instructions place a firmware update before recalibration. Use the supported Xbox or PC update path for the controller.
- Run Xbox Accessories recalibration. On an Xbox console or in the Xbox Accessories PC app, use the recalibration option documented for the controller. Complete the routine with the sticks centered and follow the on-screen prompts.
If a replacement appears centered before calibration but moves on its own afterward, repeat the supported calibration process and inspect the solder joints. If the controller is not detected at all, check connectors, board damage, and firmware recognition before assuming the magnetic sensors are defective.

Calibration and firmware are product-specific
Series X|S wireless controller with the listed TMR kit
The documented path is: update the controller, then run the Xbox Accessories recalibration option on an Xbox console or through the PC app. The sources do not establish a universal numeric dead-zone setting, a required number of calibration cycles, or a guaranteed result after calibration. Use the values and prompts supplied by the supported app rather than copying settings from a different controller.
ESWAP X or XR with SH5
Use Thrustmaster’s ESWAP procedure. The controller must be on firmware v79.00 or later, and the instructions cover SH5, S5, and S2 mini-sticks. This is a separate ecosystem from the Xbox Accessories workflow; an ESWAP firmware requirement is not evidence that an Xbox Wireless Controller accepts the same update.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What changes for Xbox One and Elite controllers?
Generation boundaries are the main trap. The cited GuliKit kit is listed for Xbox Series X|S wireless controllers and is specifically not recommended by iFixit for Xbox One controllers or Elite Series 1 model 1698 because calibration software is unavailable for those models. That does not prove that no future part can ever work with them; it means this documented kit and workflow should not be generalized to them.

What you can—and cannot—conclude about drift and accuracy
Magnetic sensing removes the contact mechanism used by many conventional modules, which is why manufacturers position Hall Effect and TMR designs as alternatives for users concerned about wear. Compatibility documentation, however, is not a durability test. The available sources contain no independent comparative figure for drift frequency, sensor accuracy, lifespan, or failure rate.
Several factors remain outside the sensor label: mechanical wear in the stick assembly, contamination, solder quality, firmware behavior, calibration, connector fit, and the controller’s own input processing. A newly installed module can still report incorrect values if it is misaligned, poorly soldered, unsupported by firmware, or calibrated with the stick off-center.
Troubleshooting after installation or purchase
The controller is not recognized
- Confirm that the controller model matches the product listing.
- Reconnect internal cables and inspect solder joints for bridges or open connections.
- Use the supported firmware-update path before attempting calibration.
- For a proprietary module, reinstall it in the named controller family rather than trying it in a standard Xbox pad.
One axis is reversed, stuck, or missing
- Power down and inspect the module’s orientation and seating.
- Check the corresponding solder joints and board pads under magnification.
- Run the documented recalibration only after the hardware passes a basic input check.
Drift remains after calibration
- Repeat calibration with the sticks physically centered and no pressure on them.
- Check for a loose or damaged module and for contamination introduced during the repair.
- Do not treat a drift claim as proof that every Hall Effect or TMR design has failed; establish whether the issue is hardware fit, firmware support, or a defective part.
The listing promises “zero drift forever”
That is a marketing claim, not an independently established result in the documentation considered here. Compare the warranty, return terms, exact compatibility, and calibration support instead of relying on an absolute promise.
Bottom line for Xbox owners
Hall Effect and TMR thumbsticks do work on Xbox controllers when the implementation is built into an Xbox-compatible controller or is a replacement made for that exact model. The safest no-repair option is a complete licensed controller with documented Xbox support. The documented internal TMR route is the GuliKit kit for Xbox Series X|S wireless controllers, but it requires intermediate soldering, a firmware update, and Xbox Accessories recalibration. ESWAP magnetic modules are limited to their specified ESWAP family, and the same compatibility rules do not automatically extend to Xbox One or Elite Series 1 controllers.
