Yes. In How to Fish, dropped ground items persist between sessions in builds with Patch 1.0.10, but the stash is capped at 64 total items. Dazed Games announced the change on August 27, 2026, and says weapons, tools, quest items, and creatures are prioritized. That makes an old guide’s claim that loose items always disappear on reload outdated for patched builds; it does not make a ground pile unlimited or guaranteed storage.
What happens to dropped items when you reload?
Dazed Games’ Patch 1.0.10 announcement says: “Items dropped on the ground are now saved between sessions (up to 64 total items, prioritizing weapons, tools, quest items and creatures).” The rule applies to builds with that patch. The developer names priority categories but does not give a complete ranking or explain what happens to every item type when the 64-item limit is exceeded.
The official announcement feed subsequently listed The Islet Update 1.1.0 on September 28, 2026, but its excerpt does not describe a change to ground-item persistence. Patch 1.0.10 is therefore the latest explicit rule established here—not proof that no later build has changed it. Check current in-game behavior if you are playing a newer version. How many items can you leave on the ground?
The announced limit is up to 64 total items. Treat that as a shared ceiling for ground drops, not 64 guaranteed safe slots for every kind of item: the wording does not explain the counting details or specify an eviction order once the cap is reached.
- Keep rare, progression-critical, or immediately needed supplies in your inventory when practical.
- Leave only what you expect to use soon, and avoid adding unnecessary clutter to a stash.
- Do not assume separate piles or different islands create separate capacities; the announcement describes 64 total items and does not establish extra storage pools.
How to prepare a ground stash before a boss encounter
An independent guide suggests placing cooked fish near the Volcano Island military camp for whale encounters. This is guide advice, not a location or strategy confirmed by the developer’s patch notes. Verify the route and encounter requirements in your current game version before relying on it. - Gather and cook the supplies you expect to need for the encounter.
- Clear unnecessary loose items rather than adding them to the same ground pile.
- When you are ready to go, place only the short-term cooked-fish supply near the suggested camp location.
- Keep critical gear and any item you cannot afford to lose with you, then proceed to the encounter.
The smaller the stash, the less you depend on an unspecified priority system at the cap. The available guidance does not establish a guaranteed recovery method if an item is missing.

The developer specifically lists weapons, tools, quest items, and creatures as priority categories. It does not state that these are the only items retained, rank them against one another, or say how lower-priority objects are handled when more than 64 items are dropped. Do not infer a precise survival order from the category list.

Inventory is the safer choice for something essential to your next step because the ground stash has a stated cap and incomplete edge-case rules. A ground pile can be convenient for short-term supplies, but the announcement does not quantify its safety relative to inventory or guarantee recovery if a drop fails to persist.
