Yes. Fitbit trackers and watches still sync through Google Health, provided the device is supported, nearby, charged, and connected to a Google Account. Fitbit Account access ended on May 19, 2026, so anyone who had not migrated must use Google’s current account-recovery and data-support options. The information Google Health receives varies by model and by the permissions you grant to connected apps.

What changed, and what still works

Google Health is now the app Google documents for setting up and syncing Fitbit devices. It is not the same product as Google Fit. A Fitbit can continue sending activity and wellness data to a Google Health account after the account transition, but the account requirement is different from the old Fitbit sign-in.

Google says Fitbit Account access ended after May 19, 2026. To keep using Fitbit through Google Health, users needed to move their Fitbit account to a Google Account. Google said selected historical Fitbit data would be retained during migration and that the move could not be reversed. Its migration instructions also described download and deletion choices before Google began processing data deletions on July 15, 2026. Those dates have passed; people who did not migrate should follow Google’s current recovery and account-support guidance rather than creating a second Fitbit account and assuming it will restore the old history.

Moving the account does not make every Fitbit feature universal. Google’s device catalogue lists different sensors and calculations for different generations. A newer tracker may report sleep stages, blood-oxygen trends or skin-temperature variation while an older model reports only steps and distance.

How Fitbit data reaches Google Health

Google defines syncing as transferring information collected by a Fitbit device into the Google Health account. Trackers and watches generally use Bluetooth Low Energy to communicate with a nearby phone or tablet. When the device is close, the app can sync automatically during the day; opening the app normally triggers another synchronization.

Scales use a different path. Aria and Aria 2 models use Wi-Fi. Aria Air uses Bluetooth and requires the phone app to be nearby while a weigh-in is recorded. These differences matter when a scale appears to work while a wrist device does not, or vice versa.

Adding a device

In the Google Health app, open the device-connection area and choose the option to add a Fitbit. Follow the on-screen pairing and permission prompts, then keep the tracker close to the phone until setup completes. Google’s documented one-device-at-a-time rule has an exception for pairing one Google Fitbit Air and one Pixel Watch together. Because supported models and app requirements can change, check the current device list for the exact model before relying on a compatibility assumption. Google’s account-device catalogue includes both current and older models, including Charge 6.

Forcing a manual sync

  1. Open Google Health with the Fitbit close to the phone or tablet.
  2. Open Connections and choose Sync, or pull down on the app’s main screen to refresh.
  3. Leave Bluetooth and internet access enabled until the transfer finishes.
  4. Check the latest timestamp in the device or data view instead of assuming that an open app has already uploaded every measurement.

Why a Fitbit may stop syncing

Most failed syncs are caused by the phone environment rather than a missing cable or accessory. On Android 12 and later, Google documents the Nearby devices permission for Bluetooth discovery. Older Android versions may request location permission for Bluetooth scanning. A permission can be granted during setup and later revoked by a system update, privacy reset or battery-management rule.

  • Bluetooth: Turn it on and make sure the Fitbit is not paired exclusively with another phone or tablet.
  • Proximity: Keep the tracker within normal Bluetooth range during setup and synchronization.
  • Internet: A Bluetooth transfer to the phone is not the same as an upload to Google’s servers; the phone also needs a working Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection.
  • Background limits: Battery saver, bedtime modes and aggressive background restrictions can prevent automatic daytime sync.
  • Power: Charge the tracker or watch before troubleshooting a connection that drops repeatedly.
  • Software: Update Google Health, the phone’s operating system and the Fitbit firmware when updates are offered.
  • Restart: Restart the phone and Fitbit, then retry the manual-sync steps.

If the device still does not appear, remove only the failed connection and add it again in Google Health. Do not erase the device or delete the Google Account as a first step; either action can create an avoidable data-recovery problem.

What data Google Health can receive from Fitbit

Google’s privacy FAQ describes broad Fitbit and Google Health categories rather than promising that every product supplies all of them. The possible categories include:

Data category What it represents Why availability varies
Steps Step counts recorded by the device Most activity trackers measure steps, but totals and calculation methods differ by model.
Distance Estimated distance travelled May be calculated from steps, GPS or another model-specific method.
Calories Estimated calories burned Algorithms and available sensors differ across devices.
Weight Weight entered manually or received from a connected scale Requires a scale connection or a user entry.
Heart rate Heart-rate readings and related summaries Requires a model with the relevant optical sensor and an enabled setting.
Sleep Sleep duration, stages or other sleep summaries Sleep-stage detail depends on the device, wear time and Fitbit’s calculations.
Active minutes Minutes classified as active by Fitbit Thresholds and supported summaries are model-specific.
Manual information Entries you type into Google Health Not measured by the Fitbit hardware.
Connected-service data Information supplied by an app, device or data-sharing platform Only the categories that the partner actually shares are available.

Google’s listing for Charge 6 illustrates the upper end of what a current model may expose: steps, distance, swimming, cardio fitness, a sleep log with stages and score, stress and mindfulness measures, heart rate, resting heart rate, heart-rate variability, breathing rate, blood-oxygen tracking and skin-temperature variation. That list describes the capabilities Google associates with that model; it is not a promise that an older Fitbit can produce the same fields or that every field is enabled on every user’s account.

Does Google use Fitbit health data for advertising?

Google’s privacy FAQ states that Fitbit health and wellness data remains separate from Google Ads and is not used for Google Ads. The page, updated May 19, 2026, says: The Fitbit app is now the Google Health app, and we continue to keep this commitment. This is Google’s stated company policy, not an independent privacy audit or a measurement of how every connected third-party service handles data.

Google Health, Google Fit and third-party apps

Google Health and Google Fit should be treated as separate products. Google Fit has its own Android integration with Health Connect. Google Health supports Fitbit devices and can also receive selected information through Health Connect on Android, Apple Health on iPhone, and some direct partner integrations.

Connecting an app does not grant it every Fitbit field automatically. The partner chooses which categories to provide, and Google says some Google Health features currently use first-party data only. Its examples include sleep score and Cardio Load. A metric appearing in a partner app therefore does not prove that the same metric is available to every Google Health feature.

Android: Health Connect permissions

When Google Fit or another Android app uses Health Connect, you choose whether the app may read particular data types, write data, or both. Google Fit’s instructions allow you to grant or remove those permissions and turn Fit syncing off. Disconnecting stops future access or editing, but an app that already downloaded historical data may retain its own copy. Review the individual data-type switches rather than granting a broad permission and forgetting which records are included.

iPhone: Apple Health permissions

On iPhone, Apple Health controls which categories a connected app can read or write. A Fitbit-to-Google Health connection through Apple Health is therefore a chain: Fitbit supplies the source data, Apple Health mediates the permission, and Google Health receives only what the connection passes on. Changing the Apple Health permission affects future transfers; it does not necessarily delete copies already stored by another app.

Direct partner connections

Some services connect directly rather than through Health Connect or Apple Health. Their available fields, login requirements and disconnect behavior are set by that partner. In Google Health, inspect Connections and the partner’s permission page before assuming that a direct connection includes sleep, heart-rate or historical records.

The October 30, 2026 Fitbit Web API cutoff

Google says Fitbit Web API support ends on October 30, 2026. This affects third-party services that still obtain Fitbit information through those web interfaces. It does not mean the Fitbit hardware stops recording data or that ordinary Fitbit-to-Google Health synchronization ends.

If a partner connection is affected, Google directs users to open Connections → Partner Apps → Needs Action and reconnect through the partner app before the deadline. Google says connections already sharing through Health Connect or Apple Health are not affected by this API retirement, and historical data that has already synced to Google Health is retained. Because a service can use more than one connection method, check the individual partner entry instead of guessing from the app’s name.

How to control what is shared

  1. Open Google Health and review Connections for Fitbit, Health Connect, Apple Health or direct partners.
  2. Open each connection and note whether it can read data, write data, or both.
  3. Disable categories you do not want transferred, such as sleep, heart rate or weight, where the platform offers per-category controls.
  4. For Android, review the same categories in Health Connect; for iPhone, review them in Apple Health.
  5. Disconnect unused partners and remember that disconnection prevents future access but may not erase copies the partner already downloaded.
  6. For a Web API-dependent partner, complete the reconnection flow before October 30, 2026, or the service may stop receiving new Fitbit data.

What to check before concluding that a device is unsupported

  • Confirm that the Fitbit model appears in Google’s current device catalogue.
  • Confirm that the Google Health app and phone operating system meet the current requirements.
  • Verify the Google Account migration status; a pre-migration Fitbit login is no longer a working path after May 19, 2026.
  • Check Bluetooth, Nearby devices or location permissions appropriate to the phone’s Android version.
  • Look for a stale connection under Connections and try the documented manual sync.
  • Compare the missing metric with the model’s listed capabilities before treating it as a sync failure.

A missing blood-oxygen, sleep-stage or skin-temperature field can be normal for a model that lacks the required sensor or calculation. A missing step count after a successful setup is more likely to indicate permissions, proximity, battery, background or account trouble.

Bottom line for Fitbit owners

Fitbit devices still work with Google Health in 2026 when the hardware is supported and the account has been moved to Google. Fitbit data is not one universal package: steps, distance, calories, weight, heart rate, sleep, active minutes and additional measurements depend on the model and settings. Device sync into Google Health is separate from onward sharing through Health Connect, Apple Health or a direct partner. Check those permissions independently, and review any “Needs Action” partner connection before the October 30, 2026 Web API deadline.
