Some Cyberpunk 2077 mods work with the latest game version, but compatibility is mod-specific. As of October 12, 2026, CD PROJEKT RED’s REDmod support form labels version 2.31 as the latest version. Your installed build may differ, and a game update can break a mod or one of its required frameworks until the maintainer releases an update. Check your game version, read the mod’s current listing and dependencies, then install it using the format the author specifies.
What “latest version” means for Cyberpunk 2077 mods
CD PROJEKT RED’s REDmod support form labels version 2.31 as “Latest.” That label was current on October 12, 2026. It is a reference point, not proof that every PC installation is already on 2.31 or that every community mod supports it.

The official news archive dates Patch 2.31 to September 11, 2025 and lists Update 2.3 on July 16, 2025. You should still trust the version shown in your own game rather than relying on a guide’s publication date or a storefront assumption. CD PROJEKT RED says to find the version number in the game’s main menu.
There is no single compatibility status for “Cyberpunk 2077 mods.” Each mod can depend on different scripts, frameworks, archive formats or other mods. A small cosmetic file may continue working after a patch while a script-based mod or its framework fails to load. The current mod listing and its requirements are therefore more authoritative for that specific download than the game’s general support for modding.

How to check whether a mod supports your installed version
Use this sequence before installing or updating anything. It separates the game version, the mod itself and the supporting components that often determine whether a setup works.
- Read the version in the main menu. Launch Cyberpunk 2077 and note the displayed version number. Record the complete number, including the minor and patch components, because “2.x” is not precise enough for compatibility decisions.
- Open the mod’s current listing. Look for an explicit statement that the release supports your exact game version. Also check the listing’s last-update date, change log, installation notes and known-issue section. A download page that has not been maintained since an earlier patch is not evidence of current support.
- List every dependency. Check required frameworks, libraries, redscript components, plugins and other prerequisite mods named by the author. A visible mod can be unchanged while a dependency underneath it needs an update. Treat a missing or incompatible requirement as a blocker rather than installing the main file first.
- Look for conflicts. Read compatibility notes for mods that edit the same systems, files or user-interface elements. If the author identifies a load order, patch, compatibility file or mutually exclusive option, follow that instruction exactly.
- Confirm the installation format. Determine whether the download is REDmod-compatible or a legacy archive-folder mod. The folder, launcher behavior and enable/disable controls differ between those formats.
- Account for recent patches. If the game updated very recently, wait for maintainers of the mod and its dependencies to publish their compatibility notes. GOG Support gave this advice during the major Update 2.0 transition because the scale of the changes created more mod problems than usual; that was historical guidance for that transition, not a permanent instruction to uninstall mods after every patch.
- Install only after the listing answers the version question. If the author does not state support for your build, regard compatibility as unknown. Do not convert silence into a guarantee.
REDmod and legacy archive mods are different paths
REDmod is free downloadable content for Cyberpunk 2077. According to CD PROJEKT RED’s modding support page, it adds integrated support for installing and loading compatible mods and includes tools for creating them. It is a loading format and toolset, not a universal compatibility layer.

The distinction was also described in CD PROJEKT RED’s Edgerunners Update (Patch 1.6) notes. A mod’s absence from the REDmod menu does not by itself mean it is broken; it may simply use the older archive approach. Conversely, installing REDmod does not make an old or incompatible mod automatically safe.

How to judge a mod listing before downloading
When a page does not provide a simple “works with 2.31” badge, evaluate the evidence in a consistent order.

CD PROJEKT RED directs players to community mod sources and tools such as Nexus Mods and Vortex, while also allowing manual installation when the mod’s instructions call for it. The studio does not review community mods. Its official support guidance therefore cannot certify an individual download; the author’s current compatibility notes and the dependency maintainers’ notes are the relevant authority for that setup.
What can happen after a Cyberpunk 2077 update
A patch can change game files, interfaces or scripting behavior that a mod expects. The result may be an immediate crash, a failure to launch, missing menus, features that silently stop working, or save-game behavior that is difficult to diagnose. A framework can also fail first, making every mod that depends on it appear broken.

Do not assume that a mod is permanently obsolete. Maintainers may issue a compatible release, a required framework may be updated separately, or an author may document a temporary workaround. Until those notes exist, “not confirmed” is the accurate status.

During the large Update 2.0 transition, GOG Support advised removing mods before updating and waiting for the community to update them. That example illustrates why a major patch deserves more caution than a routine change, but it should not be read as a current blanket requirement for every update.
Installing and isolating mods safely
Use the mod’s own directions instead of copying a generic folder recipe from an unrelated guide. The same game can contain both REDmod-compatible and legacy content, and a mixed setup may use different controls.

- Back up important saves. Keep a copy outside the game’s normal save location before changing a heavily modded installation. This gives you a recovery point if a mod affects a playthrough.
- Write down the baseline. Record the game version, mod names, dependency versions and whether each item is REDmod or legacy. A short inventory makes it possible to identify what changed.
- Install prerequisites first. Follow the author’s stated order and version requirements for frameworks and libraries. Do not substitute a similarly named file unless the maintainer explicitly says it is compatible.
- Use the specified path. REDmod-compatible content belongs in the
modsdirectory. Legacy archive content uses the legacy location described by its author and will not be managed from the REDmod menu. - Enable only the requested components. If a supported launcher provides REDmod controls, use those controls for REDmod content. Leave legacy files in the arrangement the author documents.
- Test in a controlled session. Start with one mod or one dependency group, load a save that can be discarded and exercise the feature the mod changes. Add other items only after the first group behaves normally.
This method does not prove long-term compatibility, but it narrows the cause when something fails. It also avoids attributing a dependency problem to the base game before the mod files have been isolated.

The game will not launch
Remove or disable the most recently added mod and its newly changed dependencies, then try a clean launch. If the game starts, compare the mod’s current requirements with your installed versions before adding anything back. A framework update may be required even when the main mod’s page has not changed.
The game launches but the feature is missing
Check whether the mod is legacy content that does not appear in the REDmod menu, whether it was placed in the format-specific folder and whether its required framework is enabled. Re-read the author’s current instructions rather than using a menu entry as the only confirmation that installation succeeded.

A patch broke several mods at once
Record the new game version and check each mod and dependency page for an update or incompatibility notice. Temporarily remove the affected set and wait for maintainers if no current release exists. Reinstalling the same older files without a compatibility statement is unlikely to resolve a version-level break.
You need official technical support
CD PROJEKT RED’s REDmod issue form asks whether mods, trainers or console commands were used. Report those details accurately, include the game version shown in the main menu and identify the mod format. The support form also directs users to update older game versions. Official support can address the game or REDmod tooling, but it does not certify a third-party mod that the studio has not reviewed.
Does this apply to console players?
The official material described here covers PC modding, PC file locations and PC launchers. It does not establish that community mods or REDmod work on PlayStation or Xbox versions. Do not transfer PC installation instructions to a console installation, and do not assume that a mod listing’s PC compatibility statement applies to console editions.

REDmod makes loading and managing compatible content easier, but it does not certify every community mod. When a recent patch has no corresponding update from the mod’s maintainers, treat that mod as unconfirmed, keep a clean recovery path and wait rather than assuming it will work.
