Yes—regular, non-boss enemies in Valor Mortis respawn when you rest at a Lantern. That creates a repeatable Catalyst loop: activate a Lantern, defeat a nearby pack, collect the drops, return to the Lantern, rest, and fight the same regular enemies again. Red-eyed Enraged elites and bosses are exceptions; they do not return after a Lantern rest.
What actually respawns after a Lantern rest?
The game’s tutorial states that resting at a Lantern fully restores health and Nephtoglobin and revives all non-boss enemies. In practice, that means ordinary enemies around a Lantern are a renewable source of Catalysts. You can clear the group, reset it at the Lantern, and clear it again as long as you remain in an area where those enemies are part of the normal spawn population.

This distinction explains why a short route beside a Lantern can be farmed indefinitely while a cleared clot, elite, or boss arena eventually stops paying. AllThingsHow describes the practical rule as a nearby pack becoming a repeatable farm after each Lantern rest, while red-eyed Enraged enemies and bosses stay defeated.

- Activate the Lantern before the run. This establishes the checkpoint and gives you a nearby reset point. If the route is new, note exactly which enemies belong to the normal pack and which are an elite or scripted encounter.
- Clear only the profitable group. Kill the regular enemies that can be reached quickly from that Lantern. A route does not become better merely because it contains more bodies; high-value enemies and short travel time determine the real return.
- Collect every Catalyst. Do not leave drops on the ground while moving to the reset. Carried Catalysts are at risk if you die, so confirm the pickup before returning.
- Return to the same Lantern. Use the shortest safe path rather than extending the run into unrelated rooms. The goal is a fast, repeatable cycle, not a full level clear.
- Spend or bank Catalysts before taking extra risk. Level up or buy available upgrades at the Lantern when you have enough for your next planned purchase. Carrying a large unspent pile into an optional fight increases the cost of a mistake.
- Rest once. The rest restores health and Nephtoglobin and revives the regular non-boss enemies. Enraged elites, bosses and one-time pickups remain unavailable.
- Repeat until the next upgrade or travel threshold. Stop when the route becomes slower than a newly unlocked area, your inventory goal is met, or the combat risk outweighs the payout.
If a normal enemy does not return, check that you actually completed the Lantern rest rather than only activating the checkpoint, and verify that the target was not a red-eyed Enraged elite or a boss. Scripted quest-state enemies can also behave differently from the ordinary population in the same area.

Best cited routes and when to use them
MetaBot.GG’s 2026 route calculations identify Tribunal Square in the City of Orphans as the strongest repeatable cluster in its measured data. Old Mine in the Caverns is the best cited early-game option before later regions are available. The chapter routes below are useful when you have not unlocked those larger clusters or want a short, low-travel loop.

The 13,910 and 8,945 figures are per clear, not per minute, and come from MetaBot’s measured route data. Your actual hourly result depends on loading, travel, kill speed, healing interruptions and deaths. Tribunal Square has the larger total because it combines many nearby targets; Old Mine offers a lower total but is available earlier.

How to choose between routes
- Need the biggest payout per completed run? Use Tribunal Square after City of Orphans is unlocked and you can clear its 37-enemy cluster consistently.
- Still in the early game? Use Old Mine in the Caverns. Its 8,945-Catalyst clear is the best early figure cited, before later regions open.
- Want the safest possible loop? Prefer a compact pack beside a Lantern, even if its total payout is lower. Short travel reduces ambushes and makes deaths less costly.
- Comparing two routes with similar totals? Choose the one with higher Catalyst value per kill and fewer empty steps. MetaBot’s route analysis notes that value per kill can outweigh raw enemy count.
- Testing a new route? Run three cycles and record total Catalysts, time per cycle, healing downtime and deaths. The route with the best sustainable return—not the largest single screenshot number—is the better farm.
Which enemies are worth farming?
Enemy payouts vary by type and by the launch-build data used for the published ranges. MetaBot reports the following values:

These are ranges, not guarantees for every difficulty, enemy variant or later patch. A route containing fewer Abominations can beat a crowded Volunteer route if the stronger enemies die quickly and the return path is short. Conversely, a high-value target is not efficient if it consumes healing items, demands a long runback or frequently kills you.

Increase every clear with Surplus Amber
Surplus Amber increases the Catalysts received per kill. The reported bonuses are rank I at +10%, rank II at +12.5% and rank III at +15%. The listed copies are near specific Lanterns, making them especially useful for a farming setup:

Equip the highest rank available before measuring a route. Because the bonus applies per kill, a dense route such as Tribunal Square gains more total Catalysts than a single-enemy loop, while a low-risk early route still benefits from the same percentage. The percentages are reported by AllThingsHow in 2026; a future balance patch could alter them.

How death affects your Catalyst haul
Unspent Catalysts are not protected when you die. MetaBot reports that death drops every Catalyst you were carrying at the location of death. If you die again before recovering that pile, the unrecovered amount is permanently lost. PowerUp Gaming gives the same practical warning.

- After a death, make recovery the objective. Do not start a fresh farm run while the dropped pile is still on the ground.
- Use the safest route to the marker. Skip optional enemies and spend healing resources to reach the pile rather than trying to maximize the recovery trip.
- Recover before resting or experimenting. A Lantern rest does not replace a lost pile; the danger is a second death before pickup.
- Consider Remnant’s Return. MetaBot reports that this feature automatically absorbs lost Catalysts, removing the need to reach the death location manually when it applies.
- Bank frequently. Spend Catalysts at a Lantern before a risky boss attempt, unexplored shortcut or elite encounter. This limits the amount exposed to a failed run.
A disciplined farm therefore has two loops: the combat loop that earns Catalysts and the banking loop that converts them into upgrades before risk compounds. The second loop is what prevents one unlucky death from erasing several successful clears.

What does not provide an infinite reset?
The finite sources still matter for progression, but they should not be counted in a long-term farming plan. MetaBot’s launch-build guide lists 191 world Catalyst Clots worth 342,450 Catalysts in total, with enemy, boss, quest and clot sources tracked separately. Once a clot or one-time reward has been collected, resting at a Lantern does not recreate it. Bosses and red-eyed Enraged elites likewise remain defeated.
That limitation also changes how you route a first playthrough. Pick up nearby clots and complete profitable quests as you explore, but reserve repeated farming for regular enemy groups. Returning to a cleared boss arena expecting another payout wastes travel time and can expose your accumulated Catalysts to unnecessary deaths.
Leveling targets and version limits
MetaBot reports a level cap of 400. Its cumulative cost is 602,002 Catalysts to reach level 50 and 165,974,460 to reach level 400. Those totals are not a promise that every platform or patch uses the same curve: the guide says its figures come from the PC launch build, Steam build 25907482, datamined on October 13, 2026.

Use these numbers as planning benchmarks, not as a guarantee after an update. If a patch changes enemy payouts, Amber bonuses, level costs or the cap, recalculate the route from your current build. The underlying reset rule—regular non-boss enemies revive at a Lantern—can remain useful even when the best location or payout changes.

Troubleshooting a route that seems broken
The enemies are still dead
- Confirm that you selected the Lantern’s rest action, not merely activated it.
- Check that the target was a normal enemy rather than a red-eyed Enraged elite, boss or one-time quest encounter.
- Leave and return through the normal route if the area has not visibly reloaded; avoid assuming a scripted arena follows the ordinary spawn rule.
The payout is lower than the published number
- Published route totals are per clear from MetaBot’s measured data, not guaranteed hourly earnings.
- Check whether Surplus Amber is equipped and which rank you have.
- Compare enemy composition, kill time and travel distance. A slower clear can erase the advantage of a higher theoretical total.
- Account for deaths, recovery trips and time spent buying upgrades; those are part of the real cycle.
You lost a large pile after dying
- Return directly to the dropped Catalysts and avoid optional fights.
- Do not die a second time before pickup, because the unrecovered pile is deleted.
- For future runs, bank at the Lantern more often and use Remnant’s Return when available.
A practical farming checklist
- Lantern activated at the start of the route.
- Only regular, non-boss enemies included in the repeat loop.
- Surplus Amber rank checked before recording results.
- Enemy value, clear time, travel distance and deaths recorded for at least three cycles.
- Catalysts collected before returning to the Lantern.
- Unspent Catalysts banked before optional high-risk encounters.
- Route figures labeled as launch-build data when comparing them with current results.
