Choose by connection and backup workflow first: Elgato Wave Go is designed to send audio to a USB-C phone or computer and has no onboard recording, while DJI Mic 2 supports USB-C, Lightning and 3.5 mm TRS output and records locally on its transmitters. DJI Mic 3 and Mic Mini are separate alternatives with their own specifications, so “DJI Mic” is not one fixed product. Check the exact kit, ports and recording destination before comparing range, battery life or price.

Start with the device you need to record to

The biggest practical difference is not a sound-quality ranking; the available specifications do not establish which system sounds better in a real-world comparison. It is the connection path between the microphone and your recording device.

Elgato Wave Go: USB-C phone or computer

Elgato describes Wave Go as a wireless microphone system for USB-C devices such as phones and computers. Its transmitter sends audio over a dedicated 2.4 GHz connection to the USB-C receiver, rather than using Bluetooth. Elgato says this connection is intended to provide better sound, lower latency and longer battery life than Bluetooth, but that is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent comparative test.

Wave Go is not designed for direct connection to professional cameras such as DSLR or mirrorless models. If your camera is the recording destination, do not assume that a USB-C receiver will connect to its microphone input. Confirm the camera’s supported input and the exact kit before purchase; the available product information does not establish a camera-compatible Wave Go setup.

DJI Mic 2: more documented output options

DJI says Mic 2 supports USB-C and Lightning outputs, as well as 3.5 mm TRS analog output, and is compatible with most cameras, smartphones and computers. That makes it the more flexible documented choice when your workflow may move between a phone and a camera. “Most” is not “all,” however: check the particular camera input, phone port, receiver and any adapter required by the kit you intend to buy.

Mic 3 and Mic Mini are also DJI wireless microphone options, but do not assume every connection or accessory applies to all three models. The published comparison gives model-level specifications, while the Mic 2 product information specifically documents its output types. Match the feature to the named model, not just the DJI Mic family.

Make the connection check before ordering

  1. Name the recording device. Decide whether the audio must reach a USB-C phone, a Lightning phone, a computer or a camera.
  2. Check the exact input. For a camera, identify its microphone input and connector. For a phone or computer, confirm its port and how it accepts audio from an external receiver.
  3. Verify the kit contents and compatibility. Confirm the receiver and any required adapter are included or available for that specific model and device. Package contents can differ.
  4. Plan where the recording will be saved. Determine whether the connected device is your only recorder or whether a transmitter’s internal recording is important as a backup.

Compare the specific DJI models, not the family name

DJI’s current comparison lists Mic 3, Mic 2 and Mic Mini as distinct systems. The figures below are manufacturer specifications, not results from a common independent test. DJI labels its listed prices as reference prices in USD; the current purchase price and included components depend on bundle and geography.

When Mic 3 fits

Mic 3 is worth considering when you want the newer DJI option and value its listed switchable 24-bit/32-bit float recording modes and substantial internal-recording capacity. DJI lists up to 57.3 hours in 24-bit single-file mode or 43 hours in 32-bit float single-file mode. Those capacities describe the stated single-file recording modes; they are not a promise that the whole system runs for that many hours on one battery charge. The listed transmitter operating time is 8 hours, with 10 hours for the receiver under DJI’s specified setup.

When Mic 2 fits

Mic 2 is the clearest option in this comparison when you need the documented mix of USB-C, Lightning and 3.5 mm TRS outputs, or want local transmitter recordings as a backup. DJI lists 8 GB of storage per transmitter and up to 14 hours of 24-bit or 11 hours of 32-bit float internal recording. These are storage-duration figures, distinct from its 6-hour transmitter and receiver operating-time figures.

When Mic Mini fits

Mic Mini has the lowest reference price among the DJI models shown and the longest listed transmitter operating time: 11.5 hours, compared with 8 hours for Mic 3 and 6 hours for Mic 2. Its published audio depth is 24-bit. Do not infer from the comparison that Mic Mini includes Mic 2’s documented connectors or internal recording; those details are not established for Mini by the specifications cited here. Confirm the chosen kit’s ports and features against the product listing before relying on them.

Decide whether you need a recording backup

If a dropped connection or an interruption on the phone or computer could cost you an important take, local recording is a major selection criterion. Wave Go sends audio to its connected device and does not record onboard. If that device stops recording, the Wave Go transmitter does not provide a separate internal file to recover.

DJI Mic Mini (2 TX + 1 Mobile RX), Ultralight, Active Noise Cancelling
  • Small but Mighty - The DJI Mic Mini Transmitter is small and ultralight, weighing only 10 g [1], making it comfortable to wear, discreet, and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Detail-Rich Sound - Mic Mini delivers high-quality audio. A 300m max transmission range [2] ensures stable recording, even in bustling outdoor environments like a busy street.
  • Record Longer - Two transmitters and a mobile receiver offer a maximum operating time of 11.5 hours [5]. That's enough time for high-usage scenarios like interviews.
  • DJI Ecosystem Direct Connection - With DJI OsmoAudio, a transmitter can connect to Osmo Nano, Osmo 360, Osmo Mobile 7P, Osmo Action 5 Pro, Osmo Action 4, or Osmo Pocket 3 without a receiver, delivering premium audio.
  • Powerful Noise Cancelling - 2 noise cancellation levels are available—Basic is ideal for quiet indoor settings, while Strong excels in noisy environments to give you clear vocals. [8]

DJI Mic 2 transmitters can record locally to built-in 8 GB storage. DJI lists up to 14 hours at 24-bit or 11 hours at 32-bit float. Mic 3’s comparison also lists internal recording, with up to 57.3 hours in 24-bit single-file mode or 43 hours in 32-bit float single-file mode. A local file can provide a recovery path if the primary recording has a problem, but it does not remove the need to check that recording is enabled and that the audio is usable in the final workflow.

The cited Mic Mini comparison does not list internal recording. Treat that as a feature to verify, not as proof that the model does or does not support a particular setup. If a separate transmitter recording is essential, choose a model whose official product information explicitly confirms it.

Match redundancy to the cost of a failed take

  • Low-stakes clips: Recording directly to a phone or computer may be adequate if you can repeat the take.
  • Interviews or one-time events: Prefer a model with a confirmed local recording path when losing the connected-device recording would be costly.
  • Any setup: Check the recording destination, confirm the system is actually capturing audio, and review the result before depending on a long session. A feature specification alone cannot confirm that a particular recording was saved.

Interpret wireless range as a conditional maximum

Published range is not a promise of uninterrupted audio at that distance. DJI’s figures include open-air or unobstructed conditions, and the Mic 3 page separately reports a shorter distance for its simulated high-interference test. Elgato lists approximately 30 m. Obstructions and radio interference can make a practical setup differ from a manufacturer’s stated maximum; the cited specifications do not establish a single dependable range for every room, venue or device placement.

System Manufacturer-listed distance Conditions or qualification
DJI Mic 3 Up to 400 m; 80 m in a separate test 400 m is in open, interference-free conditions; 80 m is DJI’s specified simulated high-interference test.
DJI Mic 2 250 m FCC; 160 m CE Unobstructed outdoor conditions; regional regulatory versions differ.
DJI Mic Mini Up to 400 m Unobstructed outdoor conditions.
Elgato Wave Go Approximately 30 m (100 ft) Elgato’s listed wireless range; the cited specification does not describe a matching DJI-style high-interference test.

These are not directly comparable laboratory results. The published Mic 3 high-interference figure is useful because it makes clear that a 400 m open-air maximum and a more challenging radio environment are different scenarios. For ordinary filming, place the receiver where its connection to the transmitter is not unnecessarily obstructed and test in the location where you will record.

Compare battery figures by component and setup

“Battery life” can refer to the transmitter, receiver or a charging accessory, so compare like with like. DJI lists Mic 3 at 8 hours for the transmitter and 10 for the receiver under its specified setup; Mic 2 at 6 hours for both transmitter and receiver in its stated test; and Mic Mini at 11.5 hours for the transmitter and 10.5 for the receiver. These are manufacturer operating-time figures, not independent measurements in a shared test.

Elgato lists approximately 8 hours for Wave Go’s transmitter and approximately 48 hours for the Smart Handle. The Smart Handle figure is for that accessory, not the transmitter’s continuous operating time. Elgato’s cited technical specifications do not establish a directly comparable receiver operating-time figure.

For a long session, the transmitter’s operating time is often the most relevant number because it is worn by the speaker and captures their voice. Still, plan for the receiver and any charging accessory as well. Actual runtime depends on the conditions and use covered by each manufacturer’s test; the listed figures alone do not establish how long a particular recording session will last.

Consider the physical setup and who is speaking

Wave Go is offered with clip-on and handheld modes, and its package includes a Smart Handle. Its transmitter weighs 7 g according to Elgato’s specifications. This can suit a creator who wants a compact microphone that can be worn or held while recording to a compatible USB-C device. Confirm what the particular package contains, rather than assuming every listing includes the same components.

DJI’s Mic systems use transmitters and receivers, with features and accessories varying by model. A solo creator may prioritize a wearable transmitter and a simple receiver-to-phone route; an interview setup may need enough transmitters for the intended speakers; and a camera workflow depends on a compatible receiver output and input. The cited comparison does not establish identical package contents across DJI models, so check the bundle’s transmitter count and included receiver before buying.

Use the workflow to narrow the shortlist

  • USB-C phone or computer, no camera input required: Wave Go is designed for this destination. Decide whether the absence of onboard recording is acceptable.
  • Camera recording or multiple device types: Start with Mic 2’s specifically documented 3.5 mm TRS, USB-C and Lightning outputs, then verify the exact connection for your camera or phone.
  • Local backup is important: Mic 2’s internal storage is explicitly documented, and Mic 3’s comparison lists internal recording. Verify the exact model and recording mode.
  • Long transmitter runtime is a priority: Mic Mini has the longest listed transmitter operating time of the compared models, but confirm its other required features separately.
  • Handheld as well as clip-on use: Check Wave Go’s Smart Handle package details or the accessories included with the DJI kit you are considering.

How much should listed price influence the decision?

DJI’s current Mic series comparison gives reference prices of USD $169 for Mic 3, $129 for Mic 2 and $59 for Mic Mini. They are reference figures, not guaranteed checkout prices. The comparison does not establish a comparable Wave Go price in the cited technical specifications. Regional availability, bundle contents and current listings can change what a buyer pays, so compare the actual package and price available in your market rather than treating the reference figures as a complete cost comparison.

A lower reference price is not automatically better value if it omits a connection, backup-recording capability or accessory your workflow needs. First rule out systems that cannot connect to the intended recording device; then compare the remaining kits on the features you will use.

Buying checklist

  • Recording destination: Is the receiver designed for the phone, computer or camera you will use?
  • Ports and adapters: Have you confirmed the exact output, camera input and adapter needs for the selected model and kit?
  • Local backup: Does the model explicitly support onboard recording if you need a separate copy?
  • People and package: Does the bundle include enough transmitters and the receiver or handle your workflow requires?
  • Runtime: Are you comparing transmitter time with transmitter time, and receiver time with receiver time?
  • Range: Are the distance and interference conditions relevant to your filming environment?
  • Price: Is the current offer for the exact bundle you need, rather than a manufacturer reference price for a different configuration?

Which one should you choose?

Choose Wave Go when your recording destination is a compatible USB-C phone or computer, its clip-on or handheld workflow suits you, and recording only to the connected device is acceptable. Choose DJI Mic 2 when you need its documented mix of phone and camera output options or want 8 GB of onboard transmitter storage for local recording. Consider Mic 3 when its listed internal-recording capacity and switchable 24-bit/32-bit float modes matter to your workflow. Consider Mic Mini when its 24-bit audio and listed transmitter runtime suit your priorities and you have confirmed the connections and features your setup requires.

There is no universal winner on the available specifications. The reliable choice is the model whose exact kit connects to your recording device and whose recording, runtime and accessory limits fit the session you intend to capture.
