Ink and rarity answer different questions in Disney Lorcana. Ink tells you which color identity a card has for deck construction; rarity tells you how the card is classified as a collectible. The six inks are Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, and Steel. A card can also belong to two inks, while still having one separate rarity label.
That distinction matters when you build a deck, identify a card in the official gallery, or judge how difficult a card may be to collect. The guide below explains the current ink system, dual-ink cards, the expanded rarity scale, and what official information does—and does not—say about booster odds.
Ink and rarity are separate card properties
Every Lorcana card has several printed and cataloged characteristics. Ink is the card’s color identity. It determines which color category the card belongs to and whether it fits the colors selected for your deck. Rarity is a collectible classification. It does not rank a card’s strength, explain its abilities, or guarantee that the card is better in play.
| Property | What it tells you | Where it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Ink identity | One of the six inks, or a dual-ink combination | Deck construction and ink filters in the official gallery |
| Rarity | The card’s collectible tier | Collection organization and relative scarcity language |
| Inkable status | Whether the card has the inkable characteristic shown in its card details | Gameplay decisions about how the card can be used as ink |
| Set and card number | Which release the card belongs to and its catalog identifier | Identification, checklists, and collection tracking |
The official card gallery displays ink and rarity as separate fields. For example, the gallery record for “You’re Welcome” lists Emerald as its ink and Uncommon as its rarity. A card’s color therefore should not be read as its rarity symbol, and a rarity label should not be treated as a color.

The six Disney Lorcana ink colors
The official Lorcana inks overview names six inks:
| Ink | How to understand it |
|---|---|
| Amber | A card identity used for deck construction and gallery filtering. |
| Amethyst | A card identity used for deck construction and gallery filtering. |
| Emerald | A card identity used for deck construction and gallery filtering. |
| Ruby | A card identity used for deck construction and gallery filtering. |
| Sapphire | A card identity used for deck construction and gallery filtering. |
| Steel | A card identity used for deck construction and gallery filtering. |
Ink is a thematic identity as well as a rules category. The official overview says inks give glimmers different qualities, often expressing or exaggerating qualities already present in the original character or placing that character in a new role. That description is about the way cards are designed and themed; it is not a claim that one ink is universally stronger than another.
The same page makes the moral point explicit: No ink is innately good or evil, and both heroes and villains can be found in all six inks.
A villain’s card can be Amber, and a hero’s card can be Steel; character alignment does not determine the ink.
How ink affects deck construction
Decks use up to two ink colors
Ravensburger’s dual-ink announcement states that a deck may use up to two different ink colors. In ordinary deck building, choose those permitted colors first, then check whether each card’s ink identity fits that choice. A card that belongs to only one ink must match one of the colors your deck uses.

Two cards can share the same ink while having completely different rarities, and cards with the same rarity can belong to different inks.

What a dual-ink card is
Ravensburger announced dual-ink cards on February 10, 2025. Its explanation is precise: Dual-ink cards belong to two inks, and have characteristics from both of them.
A dual-ink card is not a seventh ink and not a new rarity. It has two ink identities.
For example, if a card is identified as Amber/Ruby, it can be considered only when your deck uses those two colors. It does not let a deck use Amber, Ruby, and a third color, because the deck restriction still allows no more than two colors. Always check the card’s current printed information and the current Comprehensive Rules if later releases change a rule.
Inkable and non-inkable are different from ink color
The official gallery provides filters for the six inks and for inkable or non-inkable status. Those are separate filters. “Sapphire” tells you the card’s ink identity; “inkable” tells you a different characteristic relevant to how the card can function in the game. A card can be in any of the six inks and still need to be checked independently for its inkable status.

The current Lorcana rarity scale
Rarity is the collectible classification printed or cataloged for a card. Ravensburger’s August 4, 2025 announcement for the Fabled set said that the game had six rarity labels before Fabled and introduced two more: Epic and Iconic.

| Rarity | Position in the announced order | What the official announcement establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Common | Lower tier | One of the six labels used before Fabled. |
| Uncommon | Above Common | One of the six labels used before Fabled. |
| Rare | Above Uncommon | One of the six labels used before Fabled. |
| Super Rare | Above Rare | One of the six labels used before Fabled. |
| Legendary | Above Super Rare | One of the six labels used before Fabled. |
| Epic | Between Legendary and Enchanted | Introduced with Fabled; Ravensburger announced 18 Epic cards per set. |
| Enchanted | Above Epic | One of the six labels used before Fabled. |
| Iconic | Above Enchanted | Introduced with Fabled; Ravensburger announced two Iconic cards per set. |
The relative sequence shown here is the order described by the announcement: Epic cards are rarer than Legendary but not as rare as Enchanted, while Iconic cards are described as far less common than Enchanted. The announcement’s per-set figures—18 Epic and two Iconic—are counts of cards in a set, not the number of copies you should expect from a pack.
What the rarity symbol does not tell you
A rarity symbol or label does not establish a card’s gameplay power. The official announcement discusses rarity and collectible treatment, not a competitive ranking. A Common can be important to a particular deck, and a high-rarity card is not automatically the best choice for your strategy.
Why rarity labels can change over time
New sets can add catalog entries or introduce additional rarity labels. The six-label system described before Fabled should not be used as a promise that future releases will keep exactly the same list. For a current card, verify the live gallery and the latest official rules and set information rather than relying on an old checklist.

- Open the official card gallery.
- Use the ink filter to select Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, or Steel. If you are looking for a dual-ink card, check both relevant ink categories and then open the individual record.
- Use the inkable/non-inkable filter separately if that characteristic matters to your deck.
- Open the card record and read the rarity field independently from the ink field.
- Record the set and card number if you are sorting a collection or checking whether two similarly named cards are different printings.
Gallery data is live and expands as products are added. A result that is correct for one set or release date should not be assumed to be a permanent catalog total. The gallery is useful for identification, but current deck legality still depends on the latest rules and any applicable event policy.

Pack contents are randomized
A Disney Lorcana booster pack is a randomized product. Buying a pack does not promise a particular character, ink, rarity, or dual-ink card. You can use packs to open cards for play or collecting, but a single pack should never be treated as a guaranteed route to a named card.
Official counts are not pull-rate odds
The Fabled announcement gives the number of Epic and Iconic cards in a set, but it does not publish a booster pull-rate statistic. “Two Iconic cards per set” means two card designs are in that set’s catalog; it does not mean one Iconic will appear in every specific number of packs. Likewise, “18 Epic cards per set” is not a probability.
No exact odds should be inferred from the rarity order or from the number of cards in a set. Unless Ravensburger publishes a pull-rate table for a particular product, treat the chance of opening a rarity as undisclosed rather than estimating it.

Practical collection habits
If you collect rather than only play, sort cards by set, then record each card’s name, number, ink identity, and rarity. A binder or appropriately sized card sleeves can protect cards while you organize them; choose supplies for fit and protection rather than assuming that an accessory changes a card’s rarity or value. Current prices, stock, and secondary-market availability are separate questions from the official rarity label.
Do not confuse ink colors with ink-drop counters
The current Hyperia City release notes, dated October 8, 2026, introduce “ink drops,” a temporary counter type worth one ink when spent. Printed ink-drop counters can appear in Hyperia City booster packs. An ink drop is a resource counter used by that set’s rules; it is not a seventh color and does not replace Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, or Steel.
When reading a Hyperia City card or token, ask two separate questions: is the word describing a card’s ink identity, or is it describing an ink-drop counter? The release notes direct players to the current Comprehensive Rules for the complete interaction details. Set-specific counters are one reason to check the release notes for the set you are playing instead of applying an older explanation to a newer product.

Worked examples
An Emerald Uncommon
The official record for “You’re Welcome” demonstrates the basic split: Emerald is its ink identity and Uncommon is its rarity. If you are building an Emerald deck, the ink field answers whether it belongs to the color you selected. If you are filing cards by collection tier, the Uncommon field answers where to place it. Neither field substitutes for the other.
A dual-ink Legendary
Suppose a future card record identifies a card as Amber/Ruby and Legendary. “Amber/Ruby” answers the deck-construction question: it belongs to both colors and requires a deck using those two colors. “Legendary” answers the collectible-classification question. The high rarity does not grant permission to add a third ink, and the dual identity does not make the card automatically stronger than another Legendary.
An Iconic card in a single-color deck
An Iconic card still has an ink identity. If its record lists Steel, its rarity explains its collectible tier, while Steel determines the color check for deck construction. The fact that Iconic is described as rarer than Enchanted does not change the two-color deck limit or the card’s other gameplay characteristics.
A quick checklist before you trade, build, or sort
- Read the ink field first when deciding whether a card fits your deck.
- Check for two ink identities; dual-ink cards count as both of those colors, not as a third category.
- Confirm that your deck uses no more than two ink colors under the current rules.
- Check inkable status separately from the color name.
- Read the rarity label independently; it describes collecting, not guaranteed gameplay strength.
- Use the official gallery for the current set number, ink, and rarity record.
- Do not turn per-set card counts into booster probabilities.
- When a new set introduces counters or rules terms, read that set’s official release notes and the current Comprehensive Rules.
Bottom line
Disney Lorcana’s six inks—Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, and Steel—define card identity and deck compatibility. Rarity is a separate collectible scale that now includes Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare, Legendary, Epic, Enchanted, and Iconic in the order described by Ravensburger’s Fabled announcement. Dual-ink cards belong to two colors but do not create a third color, and official set counts do not reveal booster pull odds. For any specific card, verify ink, rarity, inkable status, and set details in the live official gallery.
