Short answer: a Star Path is a themed reward track. You complete Star Path Duties, earn Tokens, and spend those Tokens on items along the track. A limited-time Valley event is a separate, scheduled activity with its own objectives, collectibles or quests, reward pool, and end date. Both can be announced in the same game update, but they do not share one task list or one progression system.

Because dates, Premium rules, reward availability, and even the Star Path format can change by update and edition, use the live Event menu in your game and the matching Gameloft update notes as the final authority.

Star Path and limited-time event at a glance

Comparison point Star Path Limited-time Valley event
How you progress Complete Star Path Duties and earn Tokens. Complete that event’s own tasks, quests, puzzles, or collection objectives.
Rewards A themed reward track, with regular rewards and, in some formats, Bonus Rewards. Selected older rewards can also appear in the Star Path Vault. Rewards defined by the individual event, such as items or prizes tied to its activities.
Schedule A seasonal active period announced for the Path. The 2025 refreshed format also described a five-day extension and a 48-hour post-Path grace period. A separately announced event window. Its dates do not automatically match the Star Path.
Access rules Premium can affect access to released Routine Duty sets, Bonus Rewards, or reward tiers, depending on the format and edition. Requirements are set by the event announcement and can differ from one event to another.
Can it overlap another activity? Yes. Update notes can name a Star Path alongside one or more other events. Yes. It remains a separate activity even when it launches in the same update as a Star Path.

The practical test is simple: if the activity asks you to earn Tokens for a named reward track, you are looking at a Star Path. If it presents its own event objectives or collectibles, treat it as a limited-time event and follow that event’s instructions.

How a Star Path works

Duties generate Tokens

A Star Path starts with a themed set of rewards. Its progression currency is the Token. Star Path Duties tell you what to do in the Valley; when you complete a Duty, you receive Tokens and use them to unlock rewards on the Path. The official beginner guide describes these as limited-time exclusive rewards and advises completing the Duties before the Path ends.

The 2025 refreshed format added Routine Duties

Gameloft’s 18 August 2025 Star Path deep dive described a refreshed format with two kinds of work:

  • Regular Star Path Duties: the standard objectives used to earn Tokens for the regular reward track.
  • Weekly Routine Duties: additional sets intended to help players earn more Tokens for Bonus Rewards.

In that published format, the first-day Duty selection was intended to provide enough Tokens for all regular-track rewards. Routine Duties were an additional way to build Tokens for Bonus Rewards, not a replacement for the regular track.

How Routine Duties were scheduled

The same 2025 explanation said a new Routine Duty set unlocked each Wednesday at 13:00 UTC. Once unlocked, Duties did not disappear. Non-Premium players completed released Routine Duty sets in order, while Premium players could work across all released sets in any order. These are rules for the format Gameloft described in August 2025; a later Star Path can change the unlock day, access model, or reward relationship.

Premium changes the path, not the definition

Premium affects which parts of a particular Star Path are available, but it does not turn a limited-time event into a Star Path or vice versa. Under the 2025 format, Premium affected access to released Routine Duty sets and Bonus Rewards according to the rules for that Path. Check the current Path’s own labels before assuming that a previous season’s arrangement still applies.

End dates and the published grace period

For the 2025 refresh, Gameloft extended the active Star Path Duty period by five days and specified a 48-hour grace period after the Path ended. During that grace period, players could trade or purchase additional Tokens. This was a published feature of that format, not a guarantee that every future Star Path will offer the same extension or grace window.

How limited-time Valley events work

Each event brings its own rules

A limited-time Valley event is announced as a distinct activity. Its announcement supplies the dates, objectives, and reward conditions. The activity might ask you to gather a temporary collectible, complete daily quests, solve puzzles, or perform another event-specific task. There is no universal event currency or one set of duties shared by every event.

Examples from official update announcements

Gameloft’s update announcements illustrate the variety:

  • Summer Sizzle: players collected marshmallows, shared s’mores, and completed daily quests.
  • Parks Floating Festival: the activity used weekly puzzles on a themed floating island.
  • Memory Mania: the event had its own return window and event tasks.

Those examples are historical activities. Their dates have passed and should not be used as a current calendar. They demonstrate the event structure: a named activity with a separate objective loop and a separate reward set.

Events can sit beside a Star Path

The Path of the Hero patch notes listed Dreamlight Parks Fest and Picture Pursuit as separately scheduled events while also naming the Godly Glamor Star Path. The Whispers of the Wind update similarly announced the Elements of Nature Star Path alongside separately dated Springtime Floating Festival and Treasure Hunt activities. Seeing all of those names in one update does not combine them; it means the update contains several independent pieces of content.

Why players confuse the two systems

Players and community discussions often use event as a casual label for any temporary content, including a Star Path season. Official materials are more precise. A Star Path is identified by its Duty-and-Token reward track. Other Valley events are identified by their own tasks, dates, and rewards. The same patch notes can announce both, which makes the casual wording especially easy to misread.

They also compete for your time. A Star Path Duty may ask for an activity that an event also uses, such as gathering or visiting a character. Completing the action can feel like one combined objective, but credit is recorded separately by each system. Always check which menu or task card shows completion before assuming both have advanced.

Detailed comparison by the decisions that matter

Progression and currency

Star Path progress is measured in Tokens and is tied to the Path’s reward pages. Limited-time events measure progress using whatever the event defines: a collectible count, a daily-quest sequence, a puzzle schedule, or another objective. An event collectible is not automatically a Star Path Token, and Tokens do not automatically satisfy an event objective.

Reward structure

A Star Path presents rewards as a track that you unlock with Tokens. Depending on the format, it may include a regular track and Bonus Rewards connected to Routine Duties or Premium access. An event’s rewards are arranged according to that event’s own tasks and claims. If an event announcement does not mention a Star Path track, do not expect its prizes to appear on the Path’s reward pages.

Timing

The two calendars are independent. A Star Path has its own active period and any grace rule expressly announced for that season. An event has its own start and end dates. A shared launch day does not imply a shared end date, and an event can continue after a Star Path has closed or finish while the Path remains active.

Access and edition

Access conditions can differ by Star Path format, Premium status, and game edition. Events likewise can have their own eligibility conditions. The Apple Arcade edition has a particularly important format change announced for late October 2026, covered below; instructions written for another edition may not match what appears on your screen.

Returning content

Some previous Star Path rewards can return through the Star Path Vault. That is a Star Path feature, not a promise that every limited-time event will return or that every past prize will be permanently obtainable. For an event, rely on the specific return announcement rather than assuming the Vault applies.

What the Star Path Vault changes

A permanent route to selected older Star Path rewards

Gameloft introduced the Star Path Vault in 2026 as a permanent feature for earning selected rewards from previous Star Paths, including refreshed versions. The Vault rotates its selection with each new Star Path, so it is not a complete archive that displays every past item at once.

Linear progression and the three-Duty requirement

Gameloft’s 7 April 2026 Vault explanation says progression is linear and requires three Routine Duties per Vault reward. You work through the available line rather than freely choosing any item in any order. Some Vault rewards are Premium-locked; free rewards can be claimed without Premium.

What happens when you already own an item

If the selected Vault item is already in your collection, the official description says the game provides a Red Chest instead. That duplicate handling lets you continue receiving a result from the line, but it does not make every old reward available or guarantee that a particular item will be in the current rotation.

Apple Arcade: a different Star Path format

The September 2026 Season of Scares update announced Apple Arcade Star Paths beginning later in October. The announcement specifies several differences from the usual format:

  • There is no Premium track.
  • Premium rewards are not included.
  • Moonstones and purchasable Tokens are not used.
  • Weekly Routine Duties are replaced with Daily Duties.
  • Daily Duties unlock Milestone Rewards rather than Vault rewards.

This rollout was newly announced at the October 2026 research date, so Apple Arcade players should confirm what is live in their own game before planning around it. Older 2025 patch notes said Apple Arcade lacked seasonal Star Paths; that statement describes the older version of the service and should not be treated as current after the later announcement.

How to identify the activity in your game

Use this short inspection routine whenever an update introduces several temporary activities:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the in-game Event menu. Look for the named Star Path tile and any separately named event tiles. Do not assume that every item listed under a broad event heading uses the same progression.
  2. Read the progress label. A Token balance and reward-track pages indicate a Star Path. A collectible counter, daily quest list, puzzle board, or other event-specific tracker indicates a limited-time event.
  3. Record each date separately. Write down the Star Path end date and the event end date from their own panels. If a grace period is mentioned, verify that it belongs to the current Path rather than a previous season.
  4. Check access text. Look for Premium, free, edition, or platform wording on the exact reward or duty set you want. Apple Arcade instructions can differ from the standard edition.
  5. Confirm the reward source. Before spending time on an objective, identify whether the resulting item appears on the Star Path track, in the Vault, or in the event’s reward screen.

How to plan your time without mixing objectives

If you are pursuing a Star Path

  1. Review every currently released Star Path Duty and note objectives that require several in-game sessions.
  2. Spend Tokens only after checking which regular rewards remain and whether the current format has Bonus Rewards tied to Routine Duties.
  3. Check the Routine Duty unlock schedule shown for this Path. The Wednesday 13:00 UTC schedule belongs to the August 2025 format and should not be assumed for a later season.
  4. Set your own deadline before the displayed end date so unfinished Duties do not depend on a grace period that may not exist.
  5. If you play on Apple Arcade, follow the Daily Duty and Milestone Reward structure announced for that edition instead of standard Premium-and-Token advice.

If you are pursuing a limited-time event

  1. Open the event’s own task panel and note whether objectives reset daily or weekly.
  2. Collect only the items the event names as required; a similar-looking material may belong to another activity.
  3. Track the event’s return window or end date independently of the Star Path calendar.
  4. Claim rewards through the event screen described in its instructions, rather than looking for them on the Star Path track.

Common mistakes and how to correct them

Mistake Why it happens Correction
Assuming every temporary task is a Star Path Duty Several activities can launch in one update and may use similar Valley actions. Check the task’s title and the progress screen that records completion.
Using an old Routine Duty schedule as a permanent rule The 2025 refresh documented a specific weekly unlock time, but formats can change. Use the schedule displayed for the active Path.
Waiting for a guaranteed grace period The 48-hour period was documented for the 2025 refreshed format. Treat the in-game end date as the real deadline unless the current announcement explicitly grants extra time.
Expecting the Vault to contain every previous reward The Vault is described as a rotating selection. Check the current Vault line and wait for an official rotation announcement if the item is absent.
Following standard-edition instructions on Apple Arcade Apple Arcade’s announced format removes Premium and replaces weekly duties with Daily Duties. Follow the edition-specific labels and milestone requirements shown in your game.
Thinking a duplicate Vault item is lost Owned items are handled differently from new unlocks. Look for the Red Chest supplied under the Vault’s duplicate-item rule.

Which system should you prioritize?

Prioritize the Star Path when its reward track contains items you specifically want and its Duties require regular progress before the displayed deadline. The track gives you a visible Token target and a defined sequence of claims.

Prioritize a limited-time event when its objective window is shorter, its daily or weekly tasks cannot be completed later, or its reward is available only through that event’s activity. Because the calendars are independent, you may need to alternate between the two rather than finishing one before starting the other.

Do not buy Premium or Moonstones merely to understand the distinction. Premium can change access within a particular Star Path format, while the basic difference between a Star Path and an event is the progression system and reward source.

What to check before an update ends

  • Confirm the active Star Path name and its displayed end time.
  • Check whether the current format includes Routine Duties, Bonus Rewards, a grace period, or a different schedule.
  • Open every separately named event and record its own closing date.
  • On Apple Arcade, verify whether the announced Daily Duty and Milestone Reward format is live.
  • For an older Star Path item, inspect the current Vault rotation instead of assuming the item is permanently unavailable.

These checks prevent the most expensive mistake in a time-limited game: spending your remaining play sessions on a task that belongs to a different reward system.
