Prepare every expedition before leaving the hub
Most wasted time comes from returning to a hub for something that could have been packed or planned in advance. The hub is your staging area for transport, fuel, excavation gear, and route decisions.
Keep the tablet map open while walking
- Open the tablet and bring up its map.
- Press the button assigned to opening the tablet a second time. The developer’s guide says this lets you move while the map remains visible.
- Mark the excavation site, unusual finds, and any location you want to revisit.
A live map makes it easier to check your position without repeatedly stopping, and markers turn a broad expedition area into a route you can follow. Because control bindings vary, check the in-game control screen if the double-press does not behave as described.
Read and revisit the pop-up hints
Early notifications explain how fossil handling and equipment work. The developer specifically recommends reading them instead of dismissing them as generic tutorials; the hints can be revisited when a tool or excavation situation is unfamiliar.
Pack equipment and calculate fuel

- Enough vehicle fuel for the outbound route, searching, and the return trip.
- Any generator or pump needed by the destination or its weather conditions.
- A vehicle suited to the terrain rather than simply the fastest-looking option.
If you do run low, inspect the map for fuel-canister locations marked with a green dispenser. Refueling at the hub is safer, but the marked canisters can prevent an expedition from ending prematurely.
Choose a vehicle for terrain and task
The game does not treat every vehicle as interchangeable. The developer’s advice distinguishes transport and off-road properties, so choose through the hub laptop according to the route and cargo you expect to carry.

Four-wheel drive and differential lock help with mud; they are not a substitute for route planning. If a direct path is impassable, use a designated alternate route or clear removable obstacles instead of repeatedly forcing the vehicle through the same patch.

How to find more fossils and special discoveries
Search beyond the marked dig site
The marked fossil area is a destination, not a boundary. Before starting the main excavation, scan the map and surrounding environment for collectibles, special fossils, plants, and dinosaur eggs. Distinctive plants can be photographed for potential museum decoration, so a brief survey can improve both discovery progress and later exhibit design.

Clear obstacles and use alternate routes
Trees and boulders that the game identifies as removable can be cleared. Mud is handled through suitable driving, while other blocked approaches may require routing around a designated path. If the direct line is slow or unsafe, compare the map with the terrain and take the route that preserves fuel and vehicle control.
Use the Knowledge tab to organize bone sets
When you recover a bone, inspect it rather than treating every piece as interchangeable. Identification helps you select the right set for cleaning and assembly. The tablet’s Knowledge tab records collected bones, their locations, skeleton progress, and cleaning status. Check it before leaving a site so you know whether you are missing a particular piece or merely have not completed its cleaning step.
A practical excavation and museum progression loop
- Stage at the hub. Select a vehicle through the laptop, collect excavation gear, top up fuel, and confirm whether the destination needs a generator or pump.
- Mark the route. Keep the tablet map visible while travelling, mark the dig site, and note fuel-canister locations and interesting side finds.
- Survey first. Look for plants, eggs, collectibles, and special fossils before committing all your time to the primary marked area.
- Excavate methodically. Read the tool hints, remove obstacles when appropriate, and avoid spending fuel fighting terrain that calls for a different route or vehicle setting.
- Identify the haul. Use the Knowledge tab to connect bones with sets, locations, cleaning status, and skeleton completion.
- Return with a museum plan. Decide whether a find completes a skeleton, supplies a new exhibit, or is better stored until you have the rest of its set.
- Invest the resulting rewards. Put exhibit-related gains toward prestige and work-related gains toward the skills that reduce your manual workload.
Museum prestige and personal skill points are different upgrades
Confusing these two progression tracks can make upgrades feel ineffective. Prestige comes from what you build and display in the museum. Skill points come from the work you personally perform in the field and workshop.

If a display contains a strong specimen but lacks the surrounding elements needed for prestige, improving the setting may be the more efficient next step.

The developer names digging, chiseling, and fossil cleaning as examples, along with an underwater skill that lets you remain submerged longer during underwater excavation. Choose according to your play pattern: frequent manual excavation favors digging or chiseling, while a backlog of unprepared specimens favors cleaning.

Later progression reduces repetitive travel and workshop work. The developer’s guide describes several forms of automation and convenience:
- Drones that deliver empty crates or carry unearthed fossils to the museum.
- Fast travel between hubs and excavation sites.
- Museum workers who clean bones.
- Refueling drones.
- Staff who can handle recurring jobs such as sending supplies or fuel and reducing travel time.
These options are progression rewards, not cheat codes. Raising prestige and continuing useful field work is the route to them.
How to design exhibits without getting stuck
There is no mandatory universal layout. Wyszyński wrote that “There’s no single way to complete the game, and no universal recipe for your museum.” The museum system is deliberately flexible: you can rearrange or remove items and delete an exhibit if an arrangement is not working.

Experiment with species, eras, and terrain
Exhibits can combine species from different terrains and eras. That gives you room to design around the fossils you actually have instead of waiting for a perfectly themed collection. Use plants, rocks, and soil to establish a visual setting, then adjust the specimen placement as your collection grows.
Adjust dinosaur poses and water
Dinosaur poses are customizable. Water features can also be changed by depth, color, shape, and bottom type. Treat these as design controls rather than irreversible choices: try a layout, inspect how it reads as a whole, and revise it when a new skeleton or decorative find changes the balance.
