Verdict: The Dimplex DCP11MULTI is an older portable air conditioner rated by Dimplex for 3.2 kW of cooling and a 15–23 m² room. It also offers dehumidification, a self-evaporative system, three fan speeds, a window kit and a remote. However, CHOICE identifies it as a discontinued model, and its public page does not reveal the independent test scores needed to establish how it performs against newer portable ACs. Treat the published capacity, room size and noise figures as manufacturer specifications, then verify the exact unit, rating label, accessories, condition and warranty before buying.

Dimplex Australia’s archived product sheet provides the figures below for this model. They are Dimplex’s stated values, not independent measurements. A later Dimplex New Zealand manual contains some different values, so the rating label on the individual appliance should take precedence when documents disagree.

What the DCP11MULTI is—and what it is not
Dimplex describes the DCP11MULTI as a “Multidirectional Portable Air Conditioner” with dehumidification. In practical terms it is a wheeled, single-hose portable AC: it removes heat from indoor air and sends that heat outside through an exhaust hose. It has a dry/dehumidification function, but it is not a heater or a heat-pump model. CHOICE categorises the model as a cooling-only portable air conditioner.

The “multidirectional” description refers to the portable design and air delivery rather than independent cooling zones. You still need to position the cabinet so that the cold-air outlet can circulate air and the warm-air exhaust can reach a suitable window opening without sharp bends.

R290 is the refrigerant identified on Dimplex’s product sheet. Do not drill, open or attempt to recharge the sealed refrigeration circuit yourself. If the appliance is damaged, smells strongly of refrigerant or has been involved in a fire, disconnect it and use a qualified service route specified for the unit.
Cooling capacity and the 15–23 m² claim
The headline figure is 3.2 kW of cooling, with Dimplex stating a 15–23 m² room size. That range is useful as a starting point, not a guarantee that every 23 m² room will reach the set temperature. Portable AC ratings are affected by ceiling height, direct sun, insulation, open doors, occupants, computers and the amount of hot air that leaks back around the window panel.
- Use the lower end of the range for a sunny room, a poorly insulated space, a high ceiling or a hot climate.
- Measure the actual occupied room, not the whole open-plan area if doors are normally closed.
- Control heat gain first: close blinds, shut doors and seal gaps around the window slider and hose adaptor.
- Expect single-hose trade-offs: exhausting indoor air creates negative pressure that can draw warm outdoor air through cracks.
Neither the Dimplex sheet nor the publicly visible CHOICE page establishes an independent cooling test result for this model. Therefore, 3.2 kW should be read as the manufacturer’s rated capacity, while the 15–23 m² figure is a manufacturer suitability claim.

Dimplex lists 69 dB(A), which is a significant noise level for a bedroom or quiet office. The number is a stated specification rather than an independent measurement in a standardised room. Compressor cycling, fan speed, floor vibration and the window installation can make the perceived sound different. CHOICE lists three fan speeds, giving you some control over noise after the room has pulled down to temperature, but low fan speed will not make the compressor silent while it is operating.

The product sheet lists 360 m³/hour airflow and 1.28 kW rated power. These figures should not be combined into a guaranteed efficiency calculation. The rated input is not a promise that the unit draws exactly 1.28 kW every minute: the compressor cycles, and dry mode and fan-only operation have different loads. To estimate cost, multiply the appliance’s measured kilowatt-hours by your electricity tariff rather than multiplying the nameplate rating by every hour the unit is switched on.
If night-time noise matters, place the cabinet on a solid, level surface, keep the hose as short and straight as the installation allows, and use the timer or sleep function described in the matching manual. Do not cover the air inlets to reduce sound; restricted airflow can overheat the unit or reduce cooling.
Installation: a practical sequence
The exact control labels and hose dimensions must match your unit and manual. The following sequence reflects the installation items documented by Dimplex and the accessories listed for the DCP11MULTI.

Read the rating label and confirm that the cabinet is DCP11MULTI. Locate the window slider kit, exhaust hose, hose adaptor, remote and any supplied seals. If buying second-hand, photograph missing parts before agreeing to the purchase.
- Choose a suitable position. Use a level floor near a window or other approved exhaust route. Leave the clearances specified in your matching manual around the air inlets and outlets. Keep the appliance away from standing water and do not run the hose through a permanently closed, unsafe opening.
- Assemble the window kit. Fit the slider to the opening and adjust its length to the window. Seal the remaining gap. The kit must hold firmly when the window is closed; a loose panel lets hot air and insects back inside.
- Connect the exhaust path. Attach the hose adaptor to the cabinet and connect the exhaust hose to the window slider. Cooling mode requires the exhaust hose. Avoid crushing, kinking or adding unapproved extensions, because excessive back-pressure reduces performance.
- Provide safe electrical power. Use the outlet and electrical arrangement required by the manual. Do not use a damaged cord, a loose adaptor or an overloaded power board. Keep the plug and socket dry.
- Let the unit stand if it was transported on its side. Follow the manual’s settling guidance before starting the compressor. If you cannot establish the correct waiting period for your revision, obtain the matching manual or ask Dimplex support.
- Start cooling and set the target. Select cooling mode, choose a temperature within the published 17–30 °C thermostat range and select a fan speed. Give the room time to stabilise rather than repeatedly changing the set point.
- Test the remote and timer. Install the correct batteries, point the remote at the receiver and verify that the timer starts or stops as intended while you are present.
Never operate cooling with the exhaust hose disconnected. The unit would discharge heat into the same room it is meant to cool. The manual also documents a dry/dehumidification mode; because drainage arrangements differ, read that section before selecting it for extended periods.

Drainage and dehumidification
Dimplex’s documentation identifies an upper drainage hole, a lower drain hole and a drain hose arrangement. The product sheet calls the system self-evaporative, but that does not mean a drain hose is unnecessary in every situation. High humidity, continuous dry-mode operation or a full internal reservoir can require water removal.
The manual excerpts indicate that a drain hose is not supplied for dry mode and may be needed depending on the installation. Before running dehumidification unattended, establish which outlet applies to your exact revision, route the hose to a suitable container or drain, and make sure it cannot kink or spill. Do not assume that a hose bought for another portable AC will fit: compare the connector, diameter, thread or clip arrangement and the available clearance.
Stop the appliance and follow the manual’s water-drain procedure if a full-tank indicator or error appears. Keep the lower drain accessible; placing the cabinet where it cannot be safely tilted or drained makes ownership unnecessarily difficult.

The Dimplex manual covers cool- and hot-air filters, remote control care, maintenance, error codes and storage. Dust on a filter restricts airflow and can increase noise, energy use and compressor stress. Inspect the filters regularly during heavy summer use, clean them using the method specified for your revision, and allow washable parts to dry fully before refitting.

- Unplug the appliance before cleaning or accessing a filter.
- Keep the hose, adaptor and window panel free of lint and obstructions.
- Check seals and connectors after moving the unit.
- Before seasonal storage, drain as directed, clean and dry the unit, and protect the hose and remote from damage.
- Record the model, serial number and purchase evidence while they are available; discontinued status can make later warranty conversations harder.
If an error code appears, write down the exact code and operating mode, switch off safely and consult the matching manual. Do not infer a fault code’s meaning from a manual for the similar DCP14MULTI or another revision.
Why the published specifications do not all match
Several Dimplex documents use the DCP11MULTI name but do not present identical numbers. The archived Australian product sheet gives 30.5 kg, 360 m³/hour airflow and 1.7 L/hour dehumidification. A later New Zealand manual result gives 28 kg, three fan speeds and a 50 L/day dehumidification capacity at 30 °C and 80% relative humidity, with different airflow information. CHOICE lists 31 kg and dimensions of 77 × 54 × 36 cm, while the product sheet gives 335 × 538 × 765 mm in width × depth × height.
Those differences can reflect market, production revision, measurement conditions or the way a specification is expressed. They should not be averaged into a single “official” number. Before ordering parts, moving the appliance or planning a tight installation, read the rating plate on your cabinet and use the manual that matches its model and revision. The rating label is particularly important for electrical and refrigerant information.
What the independent CHOICE page establishes
CHOICE has a page titled “Dimplex DCP11MULTI review” and marks the product “Discontinued model.” The page publicly lists $819, 3.2 kW cooling capacity, 31 kg weight, dimensions shown as 77 × 54 × 36 cm, a 180 cm cord, a 150 cm duct, R290, three fan speeds, and a supplied window kit and remote.

The $819 figure is a price displayed on that page, accessed in October 2026; it is not evidence of a current sale price, stock level or warranty. A discontinued model may appear as old stock, refurbished equipment or a private used sale, each with different consumer protections.
CHOICE’s Expert Rating, cooling score, energy-efficiency score, high-fan noise result and other numerical test details are member-only on the public page. Consequently, the public evidence cannot support an overall CHOICE verdict, a performance ranking or a claim that this model beats current competitors. The useful independent information available publicly is its discontinued status and the additional listed dimensions and accessory details.

Because the model is discontinued, buying decisions should focus as much on condition and support as on the original specification.
- Verify identity. Photograph the rating plate and confirm DCP11MULTI rather than DCP14MULTI or a similarly named revision.
- Check what is included. Confirm the window slider, exhaust hose, adaptor, remote and any drain fittings. A missing proprietary connector can cost more than expected and may be difficult to source.
- Inspect the refrigeration system. Look for cracked hose sockets, impact damage, oil residue or signs that the cabinet has been opened. Do not buy a unit with an unexplained refrigerant smell or severe corrosion.
- Test before payment where possible. Run cooling long enough to confirm that the compressor starts, cold air exits the front and warm air leaves through the hose. Check each fan speed, the controls, timer and remote.
- Measure the window. Compare the opening range of the supplied slider with your window, including how it opens and whether the frame allows a seal.
- Establish drainage. Ask for the matching manual and identify the upper and lower drain points before relying on dry mode.
- Get warranty terms in writing. Dimplex’s product sheet states a two-year domestic warranty, but coverage for a discontinued or used unit depends on seller, region, proof of purchase and local law.
- Compare landed cost. Include delivery, replacement accessories, electricity, service and the risk of unavailable parts. A low used price is not necessarily economical if the hose kit or compressor fails.
Replacement window kits, hoses and adaptors
The documented system uses a window kit, exhaust hose and hose adaptor, but the available information does not establish that a particular aftermarket kit fits the DCP11MULTI. Before buying a replacement, compare:
- the window slider’s minimum and maximum opening range;
- hose diameter, length and flexibility;
- the cabinet-side connector and locking method;
- the window-side adaptor shape;
- seal thickness and whether the window can close securely; and
- clearance around the hose so it is not crushed.
Dimplex’s current support and spare-parts pathway may be a sensible first contact, but model-specific stock was not established for this discontinued appliance. Ask for confirmation using the full model and rating-label details rather than relying on a generic portable-AC listing.
How to compare it with a current portable AC
Do not compare only the largest kilowatt number on a box. Put the DCP11MULTI and any currently available model into the same checklist:

It may make sense when
- You have a 15–23 m² room and need a portable rather than permanently installed system.
- The seller provides a complete, working unit with the correct window kit and remote.
- You can tolerate a stated 69 dB(A) noise level and have a suitable exhaust window.
- The purchase price leaves room for replacement parts or service if the discontinued status limits support.
Look elsewhere when
- You need quiet overnight operation and cannot accept portable-AC compressor noise.
- Your room is outside the stated size range or has unusually high solar or equipment heat loads.
- You require heating, multi-room ducting or a permanently sealed installation.
- You cannot verify the appliance label, hose compatibility, working compressor or warranty.
- You need transparent independent test scores before buying; the public CHOICE page does not provide them for this model.
Bottom line
The Dimplex DCP11MULTI remains a clearly specified older portable AC: Dimplex rates it at 3.2 kW, states 15–23 m² suitability, includes dehumidification, and lists a window kit and remote. Its main buying risks are not mysterious controls but age, discontinued availability, document discrepancies and the absence of public independent test scores. Buy only after matching the rating label and manual, checking the complete exhaust and window hardware, testing the unit, and confirming current seller support and warranty.
