The Dimensity 9500s is a 3 nm flagship chip with an eight-core, all-big-core CPU and an Immortalis-G925 GPU. Its specifications point to a high-performance design, but they do not establish that it beats other flagship chips in every phone or workload. For buyers, sustained speed, gaming stability, battery behavior, and the price and features of the actual handset matter more than a single peak score.

What is inside the Dimensity 9500s?

MediaTek announced the Dimensity 9500s on January 15, 2026. The company specifies a 3 nm chip with one Arm Cortex-X925 core running at up to 3.73 GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. Its GPU is the Immortalis-G925.

MediaTek’s product highlights describe 19 MB of CPU cache and 10 MB of system cache. Its specification breakdown separately lists 12 MB of L3 cache and 10 MB of system-level cache. These are the manufacturer’s different category descriptions; they should not be added together as if they were separate, directly comparable totals. The platform also supports LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4 storage. Those are capabilities, not guarantees that every phone using the chip will deliver the same speed.

MediaTek says the chip supports advanced ray tracing, Adaptive Game Technology 3.0, and Frame Technology 3.0, which it says can improve gaming efficiency. These are vendor claims about supported features, not independent measurements showing how much faster or longer a particular phone will run a game.

Which performance differences matter when choosing a phone?

Short-burst CPU speed

Fast single-core performance can help with brief, demanding work and contribute to a responsive feel. Core design and clock speed describe potential, but a benchmark on a named phone is more informative about delivered performance. Everyday responsiveness also depends on software and the rest of the device.

Sustained CPU performance

Long exports, extended multitasking, and other workloads that keep the processor busy can expose differences in cooling and power limits. A chip that posts a strong short test may not maintain that speed as it heats up. The available evidence does not establish a controlled Dimensity 9500s phone endurance test against competing flagship phones, so look for sustained tests of the specific handsets you are considering.

Graphics and gaming

GPU performance affects frame rates, visual effects, and whether a game can use features such as ray tracing. Compare the same game on the phones you are considering, using the same settings and similar conditions. A graphics benchmark is useful context, but it is not a substitute for game-specific testing or evidence of long-session stability.

Thermals, power, and battery behavior

Heat management and power limits can determine how well performance holds over time and how much energy a demanding task uses. A 3 nm process label alone does not establish battery life or efficiency in a finished phone. The available results do not provide matched Dimensity 9500s-versus-competitor measurements for sustained power, temperatures, or battery drain.

Whole-phone value

Buyers choose a handset, not a processor in isolation. Compare the phone’s price and regional availability alongside its cooling, battery, display, cameras, and software support. MediaTek specifications describe the platform; they cannot tell you whether a particular phone is the better purchase.

What do the published benchmark results show?

The figures below come from different reviews and setups. They are useful for understanding specific tests, not for creating a single ranking across all phones. In particular, scores from different reviewers should not be treated as if they came from a matched head-to-head run.

Test and setup Chip and phone or device Reported result
Geekbench 6; Tom’s Guide’s Qualcomm-supplied reference device Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 3,832 single-core; 12,208 multi-core
Geekbench 6; Tom’s Guide’s phone comparison Apple A19 Pro in iPhone 17 Pro Max 3,871 single-core; 9,968 multi-core
3DMark Solar Bay Unlimited; Tom’s Guide setup Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 reference device 55.31 fps
3DMark Solar Bay Unlimited; Tom’s Guide setup Apple A19 Pro in iPhone 17 Pro Max 46.63 fps
3DMark Wild Life Extreme Unlimited; Tom’s Guide setup Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 reference device 40.83 fps
3DMark Wild Life Extreme Unlimited; Tom’s Guide setup Apple A19 Pro in iPhone 17 Pro Max 35.03 fps
3DMark Steel Nomad Light Unlimited; Tom’s Guide setup Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 reference device 18.19 fps
3DMark Steel Nomad Light Unlimited; Tom’s Guide setup Apple A19 Pro in iPhone 17 Pro Max 18.63 fps

In Tom’s Guide’s Geekbench 6 results, the Snapdragon reference device scored slightly lower in single-core but higher in multi-core than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. In the listed graphics tests, it led in Solar Bay and Wild Life Extreme, while the iPhone was slightly ahead in Steel Nomad Light. The reversal between tests is a reminder that “faster graphics” is not a complete description of performance.

What comparisons with other MediaTek and Qualcomm phones can—and cannot—tell you

Android Central reported Geekbench 6 single-core and multi-core results of 3,614 and 10,785 for a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 phone, and 3,391 and 10,085 for a phone with the standard Dimensity 9500. Its 3DMark Solar Bay results were 51.14 fps and 51.67 fps, respectively. Qualcomm led in the listed Geekbench 6 and Wild Life Extreme results, while the Solar Bay scores were close, with the Dimensity 9500 slightly higher. This comparison provides context for that generation, but it tested the Dimensity 9500—not the 9500s.

A public 9500s score snapshot

NanoReview’s live comparison showed Geekbench 6 scores of 3,639 single-core and 11,047 multi-core for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, versus 2,725 and 8,932 for the Dimensity 9500s. The page’s figures are drawn from user-submitted results and had different sample counts at the time reported: 79 for the Snapdragon and 22 for the 9500s. Because the submissions are not a controlled test of matched phones and the page can change, treat these numbers as a snapshot, not a definitive head-to-head verdict.

How should you judge a benchmark score?

  • Check the exact test. Geekbench measures CPU workloads; 3DMark tests graphics workloads. Scores from different tests answer different questions.
  • Check the phone and test conditions. Cooling, software, power limits, and the test setup can affect results. Tom’s Guide used a Qualcomm-supplied reference device for its Snapdragon results; a retail phone may behave differently.
  • Keep unlike comparisons separate. Android Central’s Dimensity comparison used the standard 9500, not the 9500s. Tom’s Guide’s figures cover a different set of devices and tests. Neither establishes a controlled 9500s-versus-every-flagship comparison.
  • Look for repeated or sustained workloads. A brief peak score does not show whether performance holds during a long gaming session or other demanding task.
  • Use user-submitted averages cautiously. Aggregated scores can help show the range of reported results, but different sample counts and uncontrolled devices make them less conclusive than a matched review test.

Which phones use the Dimensity 9500s?

Smartprix reported the Redmi Turbo 5 Max as the first phone using the Dimensity 9500s. That report identifies a handset associated with the chip, but does not establish current availability, pricing, or regional naming for every market. Confirm the exact local model and its specifications before comparing it with another phone; cooling and other handset choices can change real-world results.

So, is the Dimensity 9500s a good choice?

Its published specifications describe a flagship-class design, and MediaTek lists modern gaming features. The available benchmark evidence is not enough to declare it the universal winner over Snapdragon or Apple chips: the direct public 9500s comparison is based on user submissions, while other reviewer results either use different setups or test the standard Dimensity 9500. If gaming or long workloads matter most, prioritize independent tests of the actual phones—especially sustained performance, temperatures, and battery behavior—rather than choosing from chip names or peak scores alone.
