DigitalOcean is the clearer fit if you want configurable cloud infrastructure and can administer a server; Arvixe is the closer match if you want shared hosting and can confirm a suitable plan is currently available. They are not equivalent products, and the available published information does not establish a current, like-for-like Arvixe price or an independent speed or reliability winner.

DigitalOcean and Arvixe offer different kinds of hosting

DigitalOcean Droplets are Linux-based virtual machines running on virtualized hardware. DigitalOcean describes them as infrastructure as a service (IaaS): you get a configurable server, rather than a conventional shared-hosting account, and you are responsible for its operating system, applications and data. DigitalOcean’s Droplet pricing page explicitly says its core Droplet offering is unmanaged.

Arvixe’s available help documentation describes shared hosting, with Linux and Windows plan distinctions. Shared hosting is a different arrangement from renting and administering a cloud VM. The documentation does not confirm which Arvixe plans can currently be purchased. Arvixe’s account-ordering guide is useful for understanding the documented plan categories, but it is not current checkout or renewal pricing.

How DigitalOcean pricing works

DigitalOcean’s 2026 Droplet pricing page lists bundled plans starting at $4 per month. It says Droplets are billed per second, with a 60-second minimum, and that bundled plans have a monthly cap. The starting figure is not a complete website budget: the total depends on the VM plan and any additional services you need. Check the current pricing page for the configuration you intend to run before estimating costs.

That price transparency is useful, but it does not make the $4 plan a fair price comparison with Arvixe. The available Arvixe documentation does not state a current comparable plan price, renewal rate or included-resource limit.

Who should choose each option?

Choose DigitalOcean Droplets if you want control

  • You want to configure a cloud virtual machine for your application or website.
  • You are comfortable managing the operating system, software and server settings, or have someone who can do it.
  • You prefer published VM pricing and are prepared to budget for the actual resources and services your setup requires.

DigitalOcean also describes Droplets and other infrastructure options on its Droplets product page.

Consider Arvixe if shared hosting is what you need

Arvixe is worth considering only after confirming directly that a suitable shared-hosting plan is available and checking its current price, renewal terms, limits and support scope. Its help documentation describes the shared-hosting categories, but does not establish those current purchase details.

Consider managed hosting if you do not want to administer a server

DigitalOcean’s hosting page presents Cloudways as a managed-hosting route and describes 24/7 support. That is distinct from buying a self-managed Droplet: the two should not be treated as the same service or compared as if the customer’s administrative responsibilities were identical. See DigitalOcean’s hosting options for its current presentation.

What to verify before committing

Because the products differ, compare the details that affect your actual site rather than choosing by a headline starting price. For Arvixe in particular, verify current availability and terms directly before ordering.

  • Total cost: Confirm the price for the resources and services you need, including renewal pricing and add-ons.
  • Included resources and limits: Check what the plan includes and how it handles your expected traffic and workload.
  • Administration: Identify who handles server setup, operating-system maintenance, applications and data.
  • Support: Confirm what help is included and whether it covers the tasks you expect to need.
  • Performance evidence: Look for independent measurements under a comparable workload and geography, rather than relying on vendor claims alone.

Do not read vendor claims as a head-to-head result

DigitalOcean’s hosting page presents a 99.99% uptime SLA for Droplets. That is DigitalOcean’s own service-level statement, not an independent uptime measurement and not evidence that it outperforms Arvixe. The cited material does not provide a controlled, like-for-like speed or reliability test between the two providers.

Arvixe’s help content lists capacity figures for its Personal Class and Business Class categories: 100,000 monthly visitors and 100–200 concurrent users for Personal Class, and 200,000 monthly visitors and 200–500 concurrent users for Business Class. Arvixe does not state a year for those figures in the cited page, and they have not been independently validated here. Treat them as help-page claims, not benchmark results or current guarantees. The account-ordering guide is the cited source for those categories.

Verdict

There is no evidence-based universal winner. DigitalOcean Droplets are the more clearly documented choice for a technically capable customer who wants to administer configurable cloud infrastructure. Arvixe addresses a different need—shared hosting—but its current plan availability and comparable costs are not established by the available documentation. If you want less server administration, evaluate a managed-hosting option separately rather than assuming a self-managed Droplet provides the same service.
