Diablo 4 update 3.2.3 (Build #73883), released for all platforms on October 14, 2026, fixes a Season 15 progression bug that could stop a character from completing the seasonal questline and unlocking Prime Evil Powers. The fix protects new characters, but it does not repair characters whose quest state was already affected.

What caused the Season 15 questline to break?

The blocker occurred when a character obtained and used a Splinter of a Prime Evil before finishing the Seasonal questline. Blizzard says that using the item too early could prevent the character from completing the questline and accessing the Prime Evil Powers system.

That behavior conflicted with the intended order of the seasonal content: finish the questline first, then gain access to Prime Evil Powers. Characters that triggered the bug could remain unable to reach the required completion state.

What update 3.2.3 changes

New characters are protected

Build #73883 prevents the premature-Splinter condition from occurring. On a character that has not been affected, the update should remove this specific progression trap.

Existing bugged characters are not reset

The patch does not roll back or rebuild quest progress for characters that already triggered the bug. Blizzard’s developer note states: “This change prevents this bug from happening but does not reset quest progress on characters who are already bugged.” If your character was blocked before the patch, installing the update alone will not make that character complete the questline.

How affected players unlock Prime Evil Powers

Blizzard’s workaround is a partition-wide unlock rather than a repair of the original character.

  1. Create a new character in the same partition. Use the matching category: Normal or Hardcore, and Normal or SSF where applicable.
  2. Complete the entire Season 15 questline on that new character. Keep the seasonal progression sequence intact and do not use a Splinter of a Prime Evil before the questline is complete.
  3. Return to the affected character. Completing the questline on the new character unlocks Prime Evil Powers for all characters in that same partition.

This means a Normal character does not unlock the feature for Hardcore characters, and a Normal SSF partition is treated separately from other partition types. The original bugged character’s quest log is not restored; it gains access through the shared partition unlock.

Two Season 15 progression bugs, compared

Update Trigger Result Remedy
3.2.3 Build #73883, October 14, 2026 Using a Splinter of a Prime Evil before completing the Seasonal questline The character could be prevented from finishing the questline and accessing Prime Evil Powers New characters are protected; already-affected characters must use the same-partition new-character workaround
3.2.2 Build #73764, September 29/30, 2026 Entering the Worldstone Chamber portal too quickly The Seasonal questline could fail to complete The timing issue was fixed in 3.2.2; avoid the rapid portal-entry trigger on versions before that update

These are separate triggers. A player can therefore encounter different symptoms depending on when the character entered the Worldstone Chamber and whether a Splinter was used early.

What else is included in 3.2.3?

The all-platform update also corrects Horadric Cube reroll failures affecting four affixes:

  • Impairment Reduction
  • Barrier Generation
  • +Healing
  • Critical Strike Damage

Blizzard’s notes also list additional encounter, loot, class-quest, user-interface, stability and performance fixes. Those changes are separate from the Season 15 questline workaround and do not reset a character’s existing seasonal progress.

Do Splinters of a Prime Evil stack now?

No. The 3.2.3 questline fix does not add Splinter stacking. Players continue to request that behavior, but the update leaves the current stacking rules unchanged. The patch prevents the early-use progression failure; it does not change Splinter inventory or accumulation mechanics.

What to do before starting or continuing Season 15

  • Install update 3.2.3 (Build #73883) on your platform.
  • Finish the Seasonal questline before using a Splinter of a Prime Evil.
  • If the character was already blocked, create the replacement character in the identical Normal/Hardcore and Normal/SSF partition.
  • Complete the questline on that replacement character to unlock Prime Evil Powers across the partition.
  • Do not expect the original character’s quest steps to be rewritten or marked complete.

Bottom line for bugged characters

Update 3.2.3 stops the Splinter-related blocker for future characters, but it is not a retroactive save. Affected players must complete the Season 15 questline on a new character in the same partition; that completion unlocks Prime Evil Powers for every character in that partition. Splinters still do not stack.
