The Devola Platinum 8in DC Pedestal Fan is a good fit if you want flexible placement, low measured power use and restrained noise more than maximum airflow. Stuart Andrews’ 2026 review found it moved enough air for typical rooms and use from two to three metres, but recorded lower top-end airflow than the Meaco Sefte range and Dreo Smart TurboPoly. The review listed a price of £95; that is a historical review price, not a confirmed current offer.
What the Devola Platinum offers
This is an 8-inch DC pedestal fan designed to change height and orientation for different situations. The review reports four assembled heights: 586mm as a floor fan, then 762mm, 881mm and 1058mm. It has a 30cm base, weighs 4kg assembled and is available in black or matt white.
Its three oscillation choices are horizontal, vertical or both together. The sweep is fixed at 70 degrees horizontally and 80 degrees vertically; you cannot adjust those angles. There are twelve speed settings, plus Manual, Nature and Sleeping modes. A timer works in one-hour increments, up to 15 hours, and can be used for standby or shutoff.

How much air does it move?
In Stuart Andrews’ review, an anemometer was used to measure air speed one metre from the fan. The review reports these readings:

These are the reviewer’s measurements, not a certified rating or a guarantee of performance in every room. Andrews judged the airflow adequate for typical rooms and use from two to three metres. If you need a strong breeze across a large room or from farther away, airflow is the main reason to consider another model: the review says the Meaco Sefte range and Dreo Smart TurboPoly produce higher air speeds. It also characterizes those premium alternatives as more powerful or feature-rich, but does not provide a complete current price-and-measurement comparison.
Is it quiet and inexpensive to run?
Andrews measured sound with a smartphone meter app at one metre. At the lowest speed, the fan did not register above the room’s 25dBA ambient level; the next setting measured 30.8dBA, and maximum sound was 48.4dBA. The first reading means the fan was at or below that room’s background level during the review, not that it will be inaudible in every space.

A plug-in energy meter recorded 2.15W at minimum, 5.62W at medium and 11.4W at maximum. Those low readings make the fan appealing for long-running use, especially at lower speeds. They are results from Andrews’ review, not universal consumption figures. The review does not state calibration details, uncertainty ranges or a controlled laboratory standard for its measurements.
Controls and nighttime drawbacks
The twelve speeds, three modes, timer and combination oscillation give the fan useful day-to-day flexibility. However, the controls have a couple of shortcomings worth considering if you plan to use it in a bedroom. Sleeping mode does not automatically dim or switch off the display, and Andrews found the remote felt cheap. The oscillation sweep is fixed, so you cannot narrow or redirect its angles.

How it compares with other fans
The review names the Duux Whisper Flex 2, Dimplex DuoCool 2-in-1, Dreo Smart TurboPoly 765S and Meaco Sefte range as alternatives in the wider market, but it does not establish comparable current prices or a full set of measurements for them. Use the distinctions it does make rather than assuming all the models are directly interchangeable:
- Choose the Devola for flexibility and efficiency: its four height configurations, three oscillation arrangements and low reviewer-measured power use suit buyers who value adaptability and modest running draw.
- Look elsewhere if airflow is the priority: Andrews found the named Meaco and Dreo options moved air faster. The review does not quantify the gap for every model in the list.
- Check bedroom usability: display behaviour in Sleeping mode and the fixed oscillation angles may matter more than the number of speeds if you need a dark room or a narrowly directed breeze.
- Compare live prices before buying: £95 was the price listed in Expert Reviews’ article published 21 August 2026; it is not evidence of today’s price or availability.
Verdict: who should buy it?
The Devola Platinum 8in DC is a sensible choice for someone seeking a versatile, relatively quiet fan with low measured power consumption and enough airflow for ordinary room use. At the review’s listed £95, it was positioned as a strong option for a budget of about £100. It is less compelling if you need the strongest airflow, adjustable oscillation angles or a display that automatically goes dark at bedtime.
