No VPN is established as the best for Destiny 2 by the available evidence. A VPN may change the route your traffic takes, but whether that helps depends on your location, internet provider, VPN endpoint, platform and network setup. The four services below are candidates from a general gaming-VPN comparison—not a Destiny 2 ranking or a guarantee that they will improve your connection.
Before trying one, follow Bungie’s connection troubleshooting guidance: check for service issues and the exact error, use a stable wired connection if possible, and review your router and NAT setup. Treat a VPN as an optional route test or privacy tool, not a first-line fix.
Four VPNs to consider for Destiny 2
TechRadar’s 2026 gaming-VPN comparison includes the services below, but its gaming tests do not establish which one works best with Destiny 2. No controlled, independent Destiny 2 head-to-head comparison or Destiny-specific latency and packet-loss results are established here. These are options to evaluate against your own route, not proven winners.

Can a VPN lower Destiny 2 ping?
Sometimes a VPN can change the path between your device and the game service, but a changed route is not automatically a faster or more reliable one. If your internet provider’s usual route is unusually inefficient, a nearby VPN endpoint might improve it; the VPN can also add distance or processing overhead and make latency or stability worse. Results depend on the route from your home to the VPN endpoint and onward, as well as congestion, platform and network conditions.
There are no established Destiny 2-specific comparative latency or packet-loss figures for these services in the available material. Do not treat general gaming test results as Destiny measurements, and do not assume that installing a VPN will fix lag, disconnects or matchmaking problems.

Will using a VPN get you banned?
Bungie’s account policy, as described in its Destiny Account Restrictions and Banning Policies, does not provide a blanket statement that every VPN use is allowed or prohibited. It identifies suspected manipulation of a player’s connection or other players’ connections as an enforcement concern and says that consistent unstable connections may lead to restrictions. That policy does not establish a guarantee for any particular VPN, IP address, region or account.

Fix the basic connection problems first
Bungie says Destiny needs a constant, stable connection and strongly recommends wired internet because Wi-Fi can have signal-strength and stability issues. It also advises checking service status and using the error-specific troubleshooting guidance rather than assuming a disconnect is caused by a VPN.
- Check service status and the error. Look for a current game or platform service issue, then note the exact error code and use Bungie’s Network Troubleshooting Guide to diagnose it.
- Stabilize the local connection. Where possible, connect by Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi. If you must use Wi-Fi, check whether signal strength, interference or router placement is contributing to interruptions.
- Review router and NAT settings. Bungie recommends UPnP when possible. If UPnP cannot be used and problems remain, its guidance discusses port forwarding instead. Do not use UPnP and port forwarding simultaneously; Bungie warns that opening ports may reduce home-network security.
- Only then test a VPN if you have a reason. Use a nearby endpoint first and compare it with your normal connection under similar conditions.
How to test whether a VPN helps your connection
Compare the VPN route with your usual route in the same Destiny activity and, as much as practical, at similar times. Change one setting at a time so you can tell what affected the result.

- Record latency and any packet loss you can observe, along with disconnects or error codes.
- Check voice chat and NAT behavior as well as the game connection; a route that changes one measure may create problems elsewhere.
- If the first endpoint performs poorly, try another nearby endpoint. Switching locations or protocols is provider troubleshooting advice, not a promise of improvement.
- Disconnect the VPN and compare again. If performance is worse or less stable with it enabled, revert to your normal route.
This is a practical self-test, not a controlled benchmark. An improvement on one ISP, platform, endpoint or evening does not establish that the same VPN will help another player.

What to do if Destiny 2 disconnects while the VPN is on
- Check the game and platform service status and identify the error code before blaming the VPN.
- Disconnect the VPN and compare the connection under similar conditions.
- If you still want to test it, try a nearby endpoint or another available protocol, one change at a time.
- Return to Bungie’s connection and router troubleshooting steps if instability continues; do not combine UPnP and port forwarding.
Persistent instability matters regardless of whether a VPN is involved: Bungie’s policy says consistent unstable connections may result in restrictions.

Using a VPN on PS5 or Xbox
The available comparison does not establish consistent Destiny 2 results or current device support for every console, router, plan and region. Before subscribing, confirm directly with the provider how its service can be used with your exact platform and network setup. If a console setup requires configuring a router, follow the router manufacturer’s instructions and account for the effect that VPN routing may have on NAT, voice chat and connection stability.
