The reliable way to design a website with AI is to use it as a drafting partner, not an autopilot. Start with a clear brief, generate a first structure, inspect every page, refine the design and copy in the builder, verify factual and image-rights details, test the result on real screen sizes, and publish only after checking the platform’s current requirements. AI can accelerate the blank-page work; your decisions determine whether the finished site is useful, accurate and ready for visitors.
What AI website design actually does
AI website builders turn a description of a business, project or personal site into an editable starting point. Depending on the product, generation can include page structure, sections, headlines, supporting copy, colors, typography, imagery and calls to action. The output is not established as a finished, trustworthy website simply because it was generated in one prompt. Treat it like a first draft that needs editorial, design and technical review.
The documented workflows from Wix, Framer and Squarespace follow that pattern. You provide purpose and audience information, the system proposes a site, and you continue in a visual editor. Each service exposes different controls and publishing conditions, so choose according to the work your site must do rather than an unsupported universal “best” label.
Recommended Free Tools
1. Write the brief before opening a builder
A specific brief gives the generator constraints it can use. Write the information in a note first so you can correct omissions before generation.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
State the business or project purpose
Describe the outcome the site must support: booking a consultation, explaining a nonprofit program, collecting applications, selling a service, publishing a portfolio or sharing documentation. Avoid a vague request such as “make a modern website.” Say what success looks like for the visitor and for the organization.
Identify the audience and visitor action
Name the people you want to help and their likely context. A local electrician’s visitors may need a fast phone call from a mobile device; a software consultant may need to compare services and request a proposal. State the primary action, then secondary actions such as reading case studies, joining a mailing list or finding an address.
List the required pages and sections
Provide a minimum information architecture. Typical items include Home, About, Services, individual service details, portfolio or case studies, pricing or packages, FAQ, contact and privacy information. If a page is unnecessary, say so; otherwise a generator may add decorative sections that compete with the main action.
Supply factual business information
Include the verified name, service area, hours, contact details, prices or price ranges, qualifications, policies and links that must appear. Mark anything that is provisional. AI can invent a phone number, address, statistic or guarantee when those details are absent, so do not expect it to infer facts safely.
Describe voice and visual direction
Give usable adjectives and boundaries: “calm and practical, plain language, high contrast, no exaggerated claims” is more actionable than “make it cool.” Mention brand colors, fonts, imagery preferences, accessibility needs and examples of layouts you want to avoid.
Example brief
Purpose: Generate consultation requests for a two-person tax advisory practice in Manchester.
Audience: Freelancers and small companies with annual turnover below £1 million.
Primary action: Book a 30-minute call; secondary action: email the practice.
Pages: Home, Services, About, Fees, FAQ, Contact, Privacy.
Required facts: service area, appointment hours, phone, email and three verified credentials.
Voice: reassuring, concise and non-technical. Avoid promises about guaranteed savings.
Visual direction: dark navy and warm white, readable sans-serif type, real team photography.
This is prompt-writing advice, not a guarantee of a particular generated result. The more important a detail is, the more directly you should supply and later verify it.
2. Generate a first version in the right workflow
Wix: conversational setup and generated site elements
Wix’s documented AI flows ask you to describe the business or site in a chat, review or add detail to the suggested description, and generate a site. Wix says its Harmony workflow can produce pages, layouts, colors, starter content and images. The older Wix Editor flow also collects site details before generating a design, then lets you edit the brief and site structure.

Use the first result to inspect hierarchy rather than polishing immediately. Confirm that the home page presents one clear action, that required pages exist and that generated business facts are placeholders until checked.
Framer: prompt, brief or canvas followed by visual refinement
Framer describes several starting points: a prompt, a written brief, a blank canvas or an existing idea. Its product description says generation can provide structure, sections, headlines, supporting copy, calls to action and content direction. The result remains editable on the visual canvas, where you can adjust layout and responsive behavior.
Because a visually strong draft can still have weak information architecture, inspect navigation and content order before spending time on animation or decorative effects. Framer also describes CMS, SEO, hosting and publishing capabilities; verify the current limits and plan terms for the features you need.
Squarespace: guided multi-page starting point
Squarespace’s documented flow asks for the site’s purpose, audience, desired visitor actions and overall feel. It then creates a multi-page starting point with content, imagery and styling that you edit directly in the platform. Review whether the suggested pages match your real service journey; delete or rename pages that do not help visitors complete the primary action.
3. Rework structure before styling
Open every generated page and evaluate it as a visitor would. Do not assume a polished theme has a sensible sequence.
- Check the home-page promise. Within the first screen, a visitor should understand what you offer, who it is for and what to do next.
- Match navigation to intent. Use labels people recognize, keep related information together and avoid burying contact or booking options.
- Remove duplicate sections. AI often repeats an introduction, benefits list or call to action. Keep the strongest version and use the recovered space for evidence or useful details.
- Add missing decision information. Include service boundaries, process, timing, eligibility, pricing context, location and support expectations when they affect a visitor’s choice.
- Order sections by questions. Explain the problem, show the approach, provide proof, answer objections and present the next action.
Wix documents changing the site structure, theme and layout; Framer documents visual editing and responsive adjustments; Squarespace documents direct editing of pages, layouts, colors, fonts, copy and images. These controls make refinement part of the normal workflow, not an optional finishing touch.
4. Refine layout, typography and imagery
Use a small, deliberate design system
Set a limited color palette with a background, text color, accent and state colors for links or errors. Check contrast for normal text, buttons and form states. Choose a readable body size and line length, then apply heading levels consistently so the page remains scannable and meaningful when styling is removed.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Design for responsive behavior
Inspect the generated site at narrow mobile, tablet and wide desktop widths. Look for clipped headings, horizontal scrolling, buttons that wrap into awkward shapes, navigation that becomes inaccessible, oversized images and forms that require unnecessary typing. Adjust spacing and component order rather than merely shrinking everything.
Replace generic or misleading imagery
Generated images may depict the wrong location, demographic or product. Replace them with approved photographs, illustrations or licensed stock. Keep a record of permission or license terms for assets you publish, including images supplied by a client.
Make calls to action specific
“Get started” is less informative than “Book a 30-minute tax call” or “Download the installation guide.” Keep the primary action visually prominent, but do not place competing buttons in every section.
5. Edit AI copy as an accountable owner
Read every sentence for accuracy, relevance, tone and implication. Verify names, dates, prices, addresses, service areas, qualifications, testimonials, statistics, guarantees and comparative statements against reliable records. Remove invented customer stories and unsupported superlatives. If a claim is regulated or could influence a financial, health or safety decision, obtain the appropriate human review before publication.
Wix explicitly warns that its AI can produce unexpected or inaccurate results and advises users to review suggestions before finalizing a site. Its content guidance also tells users to check and edit generated text for accuracy, brand fit and necessary rights or licenses. That is a vendor warning about its own tool, not a quantified error rate or proof that every builder behaves identically; the practical safeguard is to apply the same review discipline to any generator.

- Replace filler introductions with a concrete explanation of the visitor’s problem.
- Confirm that each feature describes a real service or product capability.
- Check that calls to action lead to the correct page, form, calendar or email address.
- Ensure headings describe the section that follows and are not merely decorative slogans.
- Remove repeated claims, awkward phrasing and language that does not sound like the organization.
- Read the page aloud or use text-to-speech to catch missing words and confusing transitions.
6. Check accessibility, privacy and operational details
AI generation does not establish that a site is accessible, secure or legally compliant. Perform a separate review.
- Keyboard access: Tab through navigation, menus, dialogs, forms and buttons without a mouse. The focus indicator must remain visible.
- Text alternatives: Add concise, useful alternative text to informative images and mark decorative images appropriately.
- Forms: Give every field a visible label, explain required formats, show understandable errors and provide a success state.
- Structure: Keep heading levels logical, use descriptive link text and ensure color is not the only way to convey status.
- Motion: Remove or reduce animations that distract, flash or make content difficult to use.
- Privacy: Check what forms, analytics, cookies or embedded services collect and publish the notices and consent controls required for your jurisdiction.
- Accounts and permissions: Remove unnecessary collaborators, enable available security controls and confirm who receives form submissions.
7. Test the complete visitor journey
Previewing a page is not the same as testing the site. Use a short task-based pass with realistic data.

- Open the published or preview URL in a private browser window and on a phone.
- Follow the primary call to action from the home page through confirmation.
- Submit each form with valid data, missing data and an invalid email to inspect errors.
- Click every navigation item, logo link, footer link, download and external link.
- Check that confirmation messages appear and that notifications reach the intended inbox or system.
- Inspect images and fonts on a slower connection; replace assets that make important content arrive late or fail.
- Ask someone unfamiliar with the project to find the primary action and explain what the site offers. Record confusion and revise the relevant section.
Do not claim guaranteed search rankings, security, accessibility or legal compliance from an AI-generated design. Those outcomes depend on implementation, configuration, content quality, maintenance and applicable requirements.
8. Prepare the platform and publish
Before connecting a domain or accepting submissions, check the builder’s current plan, domain, payment and feature requirements. Plan packaging and prices change, so rely on the platform’s current product and help pages when you are ready to launch.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Domain and launch checklist
- Choose the final site name and check that the domain points to the correct project.
- Replace every placeholder, sample testimonial, stock contact detail and default social link.
- Set the page title, description, sharing image and favicon where the platform supports them.
- Confirm the HTTPS address, redirect behavior and preferred domain version.
- Check analytics and consent settings only after deciding what data you actually need.
- Publish, then repeat the primary-journey test on the live URL rather than relying only on preview mode.
Choosing among AI website builders
Match the tool to the kind of control you need. Wix’s documented flow is conversational and business-oriented, with explicit steps for domains, payments and additional features. Framer’s documented flow emphasizes prompt-to-editable visual design and describes CMS, SEO, hosting and publishing in the same environment. Squarespace emphasizes a guided, personalized multi-page start followed by editing in its platform. None of those descriptions proves that one service is best for every audience, site type or budget.
Ask these questions before committing:
- Do you need a guided business questionnaire or a blank canvas with visual control?
- Will nontechnical staff maintain pages, forms and images after launch?
- Which pages, CMS collections, integrations or payment features are essential?
- What plan is required for your domain, forms, payments and publishing date?
- Can you export, migrate or otherwise retain your content if the platform changes?
Common failure modes and fixes
The site looks polished but says little
Cause: The prompt described a style without a visitor problem, audience or action.
Fix: Rewrite the brief around the decision a visitor must make, then regenerate or replace sections with specific information.
Important facts are wrong
Cause: The generator filled gaps with plausible text.
Fix: Compare every factual statement with an approved source, remove anything unverified and assign an owner to review future edits.
There are too many pages and buttons
Cause: The system added generic sections and calls to action.
Fix: Keep one primary action per journey, merge overlapping pages and remove sections that do not answer a visitor question.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.

- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Mobile layout breaks
Cause: Desktop spacing, fixed-width elements or long headings were not adapted.
Fix: Inspect narrow widths, shorten or restructure copy, make media fluid and set intentional mobile order and spacing in the editor.
Publishing is blocked
Cause: The selected plan does not include the required domain, payment or publishing capability, or a required setup step is incomplete.
Fix: Read the current platform requirements, upgrade only for a feature you actually need, connect the domain correctly and retest the live site.
After launch: keep the AI draft from becoming a liability
Set a review schedule for prices, hours, staff, policies, links, forms and third-party embeds. Keep source records for claims and image licenses. When using AI for later updates, provide the current approved text and ask for a narrowly defined change instead of regenerating an entire page. Review the diff, test the affected journey and publish only after a human owner signs off.
The strongest AI-assisted site is therefore not the one produced by the cleverest single prompt. It is the one whose brief reflects a real audience, whose structure has been edited for that audience, whose claims and assets have been checked, and whose live behavior has been tested under the platform’s actual publishing conditions.
