To deploy a Node.js app through ScalaHosting’s documented workflow, upload its files to your SPanel VPS, then use NodeJS Manager to set the app URL, listening port, and application path. This guide assumes you already have access to an SPanel VPS account; ScalaHosting describes SPanel as part of its managed cloud VPS solutions, not as a Node.js interface available on every hosting plan.

What you need before deploying

  • An SPanel VPS account and access to its User Interface. The interface you see depends on the credentials you use: server-administration and website-account credentials open different interfaces. ScalaHosting’s overview says the login is typically available at your domain’s /spanel path, but that path is not guaranteed for every account configuration. See ScalaHosting’s SPanel getting-started guide.
  • Your application files and the app’s own deployment instructions. The steps and runtime details can vary by project and framework.

ScalaHosting’s article, Installing Node.js on a VPS Server, by Borislav Tonev, published December 2, 2021 and reviewed January 21, 2026, says Node.js is configured on its SPanel servers and points users to NodeJS Manager. The instructions below reflect the workflow documented there.

Upload your application files

Choose a folder on the server for the app. Upload the files with SPanel File Manager or an FTP client, both of which ScalaHosting names as options. Follow your project’s deployment documentation for any required build output or dependency preparation: ScalaHosting’s guide does not prescribe one universal build or package-installation sequence for every app.

Deploy the app in NodeJS Manager

  1. Sign in to the SPanel User Interface and open NodeJS Manager.
  2. Select Deploy a New App.
  3. Enter the application URL, the port the app will listen on, and the path to the application files.
  4. Choose a port from 3000 through 3500. This is the range stated in ScalaHosting’s Node.js deployment guide.
  5. Select Deploy. After deployment, the app should appear in NodeJS Manager’s list of deployed apps.

Manage a deployed app

In NodeJS Manager, use the app’s Actions menu to choose Stop, Restart, or Undeploy. Undeploy is the removal action, so distinguish it from stopping an app temporarily.

What the documented steps do not specify

The SPanel guide provides the deployment fields and manager actions, but it does not document a universal framework build command, environment-variable setup, log-inspection procedure, or troubleshooting recipe. How an app starts depends on the app itself. Consult its deployment documentation for those settings; if NodeJS Manager’s required values or behavior are unclear, ask ScalaHosting support rather than assuming a generic runtime command applies.

The SPanel overview describes domain and DNS management and SSL certificate tools, but the reviewed instructions do not give a Node.js-specific domain-routing or HTTPS configuration procedure. Do not treat a generic Apache .htaccess example elsewhere in the VPS article as a required Node.js deployment step.

Is SSH required?

No. The documented SPanel sequence uses NodeJS Manager and does not require SSH. If you choose a separate SSH workflow, ScalaHosting says SSH access is enabled per account, is disabled by default, and uses port 6543 rather than the default 22. See ScalaHosting’s SSH access guide.

Does this apply to ScalaHosting shared hosting?

These instructions are for the SPanel VPS workflow and should not be assumed to apply to every ScalaHosting plan. ScalaHosting’s article says Node.js support on shared hosting depends on the provider; confirm the Node.js interface and requirements for your specific account before following a VPS procedure.
