The October 9, 2026 page matching this headline attributes one line to Delta CEO Ed Bastian: “Just because someone says they’re going premium, that does not make them a premium airline.” It does not include the interview transcript or explain Delta’s reported decision to skip Starlink. A separate March interview and Delta’s June-quarter filings offer useful context on demand and fuel costs, but they do not fill in what was said in October.

What the October 9 page actually confirms

The page attributes the premium-airline remark to Bastian and identifies him as Delta’s CEO. It provides no readable interview details, surrounding remarks, or explanation of the Starlink reference. The interviewer and the reasoning behind the reported decision could not be verified from that page. United State 24’s October 9, 2026 page therefore supports the quotation, not a fuller account of the interview.

That distinction matters: the headline suggests a discussion of Starlink, premium demand, and fuel, but the accessible page does not substantiate what Bastian said about those subjects. The separate information below provides dated business context; it should not be read as a transcript or explanation of the October remarks.

What Bastian said about demand in a separate March interview

In a Delta-hosted transcript of a CNBC interview on March 17, 2026, Bastian described demand across several customer groups. Asked whether corporate and leisure demand differed, he began, “They’re all going high.” These were his comments about Delta’s business, not an independent measurement of the airline industry.

  • He forecast that main-cabin unit revenue would rise in the mid-single digits year over year.

The transcript is a separate interview from the one referenced by the October headline. Delta’s transcript of the March 17 CNBC interview gives context for Bastian’s demand outlook, but cannot establish the October interview’s wording or conclusions.

What Delta reported for the June quarter

Delta’s June 2026 results release reported 14% year-over-year revenue growth and 17% growth in premium revenue. Those figures show premium revenue growing faster than total revenue for that quarter; they are company-reported results, not proof of what drove Bastian’s October comments.

This is relevant connectivity context, but it does not identify the provider, establish a Starlink decision, or explain Bastian’s reported remarks about it. Delta’s June-quarter 2026 results release reports the results and Wi-Fi figures.

How fuel costs changed—and why the figures differ

Fuel put pressure on Delta’s costs in 2026, but the available figures use different measures and periods. They should not be treated as interchangeable.

Source and period Reported figure What it measures
Bastian’s March 17, 2026 CNBC interview He said jet-fuel prices had almost doubled since the start of that quarter, adding about $400 million in cost for Delta in the quarter. Management’s description of fuel-price pressure and its approximate quarterly cost impact; he said stronger revenue helped offset fuel and storm effects.
Delta’s June 2026 results release Adjusted fuel price of $3.93 per gallon, up 75% year over year. The company’s adjusted fuel-price measure for the June quarter.
Delta’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 Aircraft fuel and related taxes increased by $1.7 billion year over year. The filing said the increase was primarily associated with an 80% rise in average jet-fuel purchase price and 1% capacity growth. Delta expected elevated fuel costs to persist until recent market disruptions and geopolitical events were resolved.

The 75% adjusted-price increase in the results release and the filing’s 80% average purchase-price increase are distinct measures. One should not be substituted for the other. The March interview’s almost-doubling comment and $400 million estimate also refer to a different period and to Bastian’s interview statements, not the June-quarter filing. Delta’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 contains the filed fuel-cost disclosure.

What remains unknown about Starlink

The available October page does not verify why Delta skipped Starlink, what alternative the airline may have discussed, or how the decision was presented in the interview. Delta’s June release describes its Wi-Fi rollout but does not connect that program to Starlink. Without a fuller account of the October interview, attributing a rationale to Bastian would go beyond what the sources establish.
