Verdict: The De’Longhi MultiGrill 1100 CGH1112DP is a 2,200 W contact grill that can open completely flat for barbecue-style cooking, close around food as a contact grill, or hold its upper plate above the food in an oven-grill position. Its strongest documented advantages are flexibility, a full open cooking surface, two different plate types, a grease collector, digital controls and an integrated probe. The important qualification is that the available evidence is manufacturer documentation: there is no independently verified heat-up time, temperature accuracy, BBQ-mode uniformity, smoke level, durability result or comparative cooking test for this exact model.
What the CGH1112DP is
The CGH1112DP is part of De’Longhi’s MultiGrill 1100 range. It is designed around three physical positions rather than a single fixed grilling arrangement:
- Contact grill: the upper plate closes onto the food.
- Open grill/barbecue: the upper section folds back so both plates form one flat cooking area.
- Oven grill: the upper plate remains above the food instead of pressing down on it.
That distinction matters when you are deciding whether this appliance can replace a small barbecue. In its open position, De’Longhi says the full surface is available and identifies meat and fish as suitable foods. The company also advertises capacity for up to six people. That serving figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independently measured number, so the practical quantity will depend on food size, spacing and how much room you need to turn pieces.
The model is not presented as an outdoor gas or charcoal barbecue. It is a countertop electric grill whose lid mechanism gives you an open cooking configuration. You still need a stable, heat-safe location, access to a suitable electrical supply and enough clearance to operate the upper section safely according to the instruction manual.

How BBQ mode works
De’Longhi’s instruction manual describes the grill/barbecue position as suitable for “cuts of meat with different thicknesses, each with the preferred level of cooking.” The same instruction says food needs to be turned during cooking in this position. In other words, BBQ mode is intended to behave like two exposed cooking surfaces rather than a self-turning contact press.
Opening the grill removes the pressure that a closed contact grill applies. That is useful for food with different thicknesses or for pieces that would be crushed by a closing lid. It also means you are responsible for turning the food and judging doneness. The documentation does not establish a measured cooking time, an independently verified temperature profile or a result for any particular cut.
What the open position gives you
- A single flat surface using both plates.
- Room to cook food without the upper plate touching it.
- The ability to turn pieces during cooking, as directed by the manual.
- A format intended for meat and fish, according to the product description.
What it does not prove
- That the entire surface reaches the same temperature.
- That the appliance heats to its target quickly.
- That it produces the same smoke, browning or sear as an outdoor barbecue.
- That the advertised capacity is comfortable for every meal.
Those performance questions would require controlled testing. The available exact-model evidence does not provide it.
Plate configuration: the detail that is easy to miss
The CGH1112DP does not come with two identical grill plates. The manual specifically identifies this model as having one grill plate and one griddle plate. Its cooking table includes a model-specific instruction: the plate named for a particular food should be fitted in the lower position, with the other plate installed on top.
This is more than a cosmetic difference. A grill plate and a griddle plate present different surfaces to the food, so the lower-versus-upper placement can affect which side receives ridges and which side receives a flat cooking area. Because the manual covers several MultiGrill variants, do not assume that a generic illustration or another model’s setup applies to the CGH1112DP.

Before using BBQ mode
- Identify which supplied plate the cooking table calls for your food.
- Install that specified plate in the lower position.
- Install the other plate in the upper position.
- Open the appliance into the grill/barbecue position.
- Use the manual’s cooking guidance for turning and doneness rather than borrowing settings from a different MultiGrill model.
The documentation establishes the plate arrangement, but it does not provide a universal temperature, time or food-by-food result that can be applied to every recipe.
Controls, probe and sear claims
The product information lists an LED display, a digital timer and an integrated meat probe. De’Longhi describes the probe as providing a reading on the LED display. That can help you monitor the internal temperature of food instead of relying only on surface appearance, although the available evidence does not independently verify probe accuracy or response time.
The product page also advertises a sear function capable of taking plate temperature up to 265°C. This is a manufacturer-published capability claim. It is not an independently measured maximum, and it should not be read as proof that every point on both plates reaches 265°C during normal BBQ cooking.
How to use these features responsibly
- Treat the displayed probe reading as an aid and follow appropriate food-safety guidance for the food you are cooking.
- Use the sear setting as a high-heat option described by the manufacturer, not as a guarantee of a particular crust or browning result.
- Allow for differences between the plate surface, the food and the probe location; the published material does not quantify those differences.
- Use the timer to manage a cooking interval, but do not assume that a timer value transfers unchanged between food weights, thicknesses or starting temperatures.

The 370 × 230 mm plate measurement describes each plate, not an assertion that every square millimetre will remain usable while food is cooking. The 458 × 343 × 185 mm product dimensions describe the appliance itself; plan for clearance around it, particularly when the lid is opened flat.
Using the three positions for different jobs
Contact grill
In contact mode, the upper plate closes onto the food. This is the most direct use of a hinged countertop grill when you want both sides heated at once. The available documentation confirms the position exists, but it does not provide independent timings, pressure behavior or results for specific foods. Use the model’s manual for the food table and plate placement.

Open grill/barbecue
Open mode uses the full surface and is the position relevant to the “BBQ mode” question. It is intended for meat and fish, accommodates pieces of different thicknesses and requires turning the food during cooking. Because the two plates are not identical, check which plate belongs on the lower position before you begin.

Oven grill
Oven-grill mode holds the upper plate above the food rather than closing it. This gives you a third arrangement between a flat barbecue and a fully closed contact grill. The product description confirms the position, while the available material does not establish a separate temperature range or independent cooking performance for it.
A practical BBQ-mode workflow
The following workflow stays within what the product information and manual establish while avoiding invented cooking times.
- Check the electrical rating. Confirm that your outlet and local market match the published 220–240 V, 50–60 Hz specification and that the appliance is the CGH1112DP model.
- Set up the workspace. Place the grill on a stable, heat-safe surface with enough room to open the upper section fully. Keep the grease collector installed as directed by the manual.
- Choose the plate arrangement. Consult the manual’s cooking table. For this model, fit the plate named in the table on the lower section and the other plate on top.
- Open the appliance. Move the upper section into the grill/barbecue position so both plates form the open cooking area.
- Select the control settings. Use the documented controls, display and timer as appropriate for your food. If you use the sear function, remember that 265°C is a manufacturer-stated capability, not a verified result at every point on the plate.
- Place food with room to turn. The manual requires turning food in BBQ mode. Leave enough space to handle the pieces without crowding the surface.
- Turn and monitor. Turn the food during cooking as instructed. Use the integrated probe as an additional reading when appropriate, while recognising that independent accuracy data is unavailable.
- Finish and clean. Switch off and allow the appliance to cool as directed in the manual. Remove the plates and grease collector only according to the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.
The workflow deliberately does not assign a fixed cook time or temperature to steak, fish, vegetables or any other food. Thickness, starting temperature and desired doneness change those decisions, and no validated recipe table for every ingredient is provided here.
Cleaning and grease handling
The product information lists removable non-stick plates and an integrated removable grease collector. Those features make the parts that contact food or collect drippings detachable, which is useful after open grilling. The appliance also uses embedded heating elements, so the heating system is built into the grill rather than exposed as a separate removable element.

Removable does not automatically mean dishwasher-safe. The available evidence does not establish a dishwasher rating, a permitted detergent, or a cleaning temperature. Follow the CGH1112DP manual for those details instead of applying instructions from another model.
Cleaning questions to verify in the manual
- Whether the plates and collector may be washed in a dishwasher.
- Which tools and cleaners are permitted on the non-stick surface.
- How to remove, empty and reinstall the grease collector.
- How to clean around the embedded heating elements and display.
Does it come with a temperature probe?
Yes, the product information lists an integrated meat probe and says its reading appears on the LED display. That is different from an optional accessory that must be purchased separately. However, the evidence does not establish the probe’s accuracy tolerance, cable length, supported temperature range or replacement procedure.
De’Longhi’s parts shop lists a MultiGrill plate and a temperature-probe component. The listing does not, by itself, prove that a particular part fits the CGH1112DP or that it is currently stocked in every country. Before ordering, match the exact model code, regional version and part description, then confirm local availability.

That evidence boundary is central to the buying decision. If you need laboratory-style performance data, look for a published test that names the CGH1112DP and reports its method. If you need the appliance’s capabilities and setup, the manufacturer documentation answers those questions more directly.

Before purchasing, confirm the complete model code, regional voltage, seller’s return terms and the dimensions of the appliance in its closed and open positions. The published 220–240 V rating means a listing for another electrical market should not be treated as automatically compatible.
For replacement plates or a probe, use the model code CGH1112DP when searching De’Longhi’s parts catalogue and verify the part description with the seller. A generic “MultiGrill” label is not enough to establish fit, because the range contains models with different plate combinations and instructions.
Prices, warranty coverage and availability vary by market and date. They are not established by the product specifications above, so check the current local listing rather than relying on an old price or an overseas offer.
