What the Magnifica Plus is
The Magnifica Plus automates the routine from coffee bean to finished drink. You load whole beans into its hopper, fill the water reservoir, select a recipe and let the machine grind, dose and brew. Its integrated conical burr grinder has 13 settings, while the automatic LatteCrema milk system handles milk drinks without a separate steam-wand technique. The machine also accepts pre-ground coffee, so you can use decaffeinated grounds for an occasional cup without emptying the bean hopper.
De’Longhi’s US listing describes the silver-and-black ECAM32070SB as having 18 preset recipes, four user profiles, four drink sizes and five intensity options. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of beverage quality or consistency. The same listing says the milk system offers three foam textures, supports a water filter and programmable water hardness, and uses removable dishwasher-safe components. Check the manual for exactly which parts may go in your dishwasher.

The $1,299.95 figure is a posted US price at that access date, not a guaranteed current selling price. Stock and price can change, so confirm both before ordering. The 120-volt rating also matters if you are considering an imported unit; a machine intended for another electrical market may not be suitable for a US outlet or warranty.
Drink menu and daily operation
One-touch variety
Eighteen preset recipes give the Magnifica Plus a broad menu for a superautomatic machine. The practical benefit is repeatability: once a profile and preferred settings are saved, a household member can select a drink rather than weigh beans, tamp a portafilter and texture milk manually. The four drink sizes and five intensity choices provide adjustment without requiring manual brewing knowledge.

If you want to design a completely new beverage program, this model is not documented as supporting that function.
Beans and pre-ground coffee
Whole beans are the normal workflow because the conical burr grinder is built in. The hopper holds 8.82 oz on the US model, while the grounds container is rated at 14 oz. The product listing also confirms a pre-ground option. That is useful for decaf, a different coffee for one person, or a temporary alternative while the hopper still contains beans.

The available evidence does not establish a best roast, brand or grind setting for every coffee. Start with the machine’s middle grinder setting and adjust gradually according to the instructions and the result in your cup; do not treat the 13 settings as a promise of a particular espresso extraction.
Profiles and repeat orders
Four user profiles are intended for households with different preferences. A profile can keep an individual’s selected size and intensity choices associated with that user interface. The listing does not say that profiles turn the machine into a recipe editor, so consider them preference storage within the supplied menu rather than unlimited personalization.

Milk drinks and iced options
The automatic LatteCrema system is the Magnifica Plus’s main convenience feature for cappuccino-style and other milk beverages. De’Longhi says it provides three foam textures. The machine can therefore prepare milk drinks from a selected recipe without the user manually steaming a jug. The independent review also specifically praised the milk drinks and the availability of cold-drink options.
Cold beverages deserve a qualification: the sources establish that the review sample offered cold-drink choices, but they do not provide a laboratory comparison of temperature, dilution or texture. Treat the cold menu as a convenience feature, not as evidence that every iced recipe will match a café’s method.
The cleaning trade-off
Ideal Home reviewer Molly Cleary’s principal drawback was the plastic milk carafe. After using the machine in the Ideal Home test kitchen, she said it needs thorough cleaning after every use. That is a reviewer’s hands-on observation, not a measured service interval or a long-term reliability study, but it is important for anyone attracted to automatic milk drinks. The more frequently your household uses milk recipes, the more often this cleaning task will occur.

De’Longhi’s US specifications say removable components are dishwasher-safe. Follow the supplied manual for the carafe, tubing, lid and seals rather than assuming every milk-system part can be washed in a dishwasher. Rinsing or cleaning only when the machine prompts you would not address the reviewer’s specific recommendation for thorough cleaning after each milk use.

Interface and customization: what the review found
Cleary published her Ideal Home review on 12 February 2025 after trying the UK-market Magnifica Plus in the Ideal Home test kitchen alongside other coffee makers and De’Longhi machines. She praised the one-touch operation, display, milk drinks and cold-drink choices. Her exact comparison was: “The Magnifica Plus is similar to the brand’s leading Rivelia product, but with a marginally dialed down user interface.”
In practical terms, that review positions the Magnifica Plus as a simpler step below the Rivelia rather than as a completely different category of machine. The review supports these comparison points:
- The Magnifica Plus sits at a lower purchase tier than the Rivelia in the UK context of that article.
- It offers broad one-touch milk and long/black drink coverage.
- It includes cold-drink choices.
- Its interface and customization breadth are reduced compared with the pricier model.
- The plastic milk carafe requires particularly careful cleaning.
The sources do not establish that either machine makes objectively better espresso, lasts longer or has a lower failure rate. Those claims would require controlled testing or long-term reliability data that is not available here.
Setting up the machine
Seattle Coffee Gear’s US setup guide says first use includes choosing a language, setting water hardness and running a rinse cycle. It advises fresh cold water rather than distilled or reverse-osmosis water. Those are retailer instructions; use the manual supplied with your exact ECAM suffix if it differs.

- Confirm the model and electrical rating. Check that the box says ECAM32070SB (or the exact local suffix), that the voltage matches your outlet and that the machine will fit the available counter depth and overhead clearance.
- Install the machine on a stable surface. Leave enough room to remove the 60.87-ounce reservoir, empty the grounds container and access removable components.
- Fill with fresh cold water. Do not substitute distilled or reverse-osmosis water unless the manual for your model explicitly permits it.
- Choose the interface language. The setup guide lists language selection as part of first use.
- Set water hardness. Use the test method and scale in your manual. This setting affects maintenance prompts and should reflect your local supply.
- Fill the bean hopper. Keep the hopper lid closed when possible. If you need decaf or another coffee, use the pre-ground chute according to the manual instead of mixing beans in the hopper.
- Run the initial rinse cycle. The retailer guide identifies this as a first-use step. Place a suitable container under the outlets and dispose of the rinse water.
- Prepare the milk carafe only when needed. Add cold milk to the level indicated by the carafe, attach it correctly and select a milk recipe. Clean the milk components thoroughly after use.
- Make a baseline drink. Start with a middle intensity and grinder setting, then change one control at a time. This gives you a reference for later adjustments without implying that a particular setting is universally correct.
Seattle Coffee Gear lists the DLSC002 water filter among the box contents for its US product listing, but package contents can vary by seller or model suffix. De’Longhi’s US page also surfaces the DLSC002 filter and DLSC200 Decalk Care descaler. Confirm what is included and which maintenance products your manual specifies before buying extras.
Cleaning and maintenance routine
Automatic brewing reduces preparation work but does not eliminate maintenance. Build the following checks into ownership:
- After every milk use: Thoroughly clean the plastic milk carafe and its milk-contact parts, following the manual. This is the specific cleaning burden identified by Cleary.
- When prompted: Empty the grounds container and drip tray, and complete the machine’s rinse or cleaning program.
- At the filter interval: Replace or service the water filter according to the manual and your water-hardness setting.
- When descaling is requested: Use the approved descaling procedure. DLSC200 Decalk Care is the descaler named on De’Longhi’s US product page, but verify compatibility with your exact model.
- During routine cleaning: Remove and wash the parts the manufacturer identifies as removable and dishwasher-safe. Do not put electrical components or unapproved parts in water.
These tasks affect convenience more than the grinder or drink count does. If you mainly drink black coffee and rarely use milk, the carafe cleaning issue will matter less; if every household member orders milk drinks, it becomes a daily ownership requirement.

The US ECAM32070SB listing and the UK machine reviewed by Ideal Home have different published measurements, capacities and pricing. Treat the UK review as evidence about that reviewer’s experience with a regional machine, not as a US specification sheet.

Who should buy it
It suits you if
- You want grinding, brewing and milk preparation handled from a single interface.
- Your household values a wide preset menu more than manual espresso technique.
- You expect several people to use the machine and can benefit from four profiles.
- You want both hot milk drinks and cold-drink choices in the same appliance.
- You accept regular milk-system cleaning as the price of automatic foam.
- You are comfortable selecting from programmed recipes rather than inventing wholly new ones.
Look elsewhere if
- You want a hands-on portafilter workflow, manual steaming or unlimited recipe programming.
- You do not want to clean a milk carafe after each milk drink.
- You need a compact machine but cannot accommodate the listed US footprint or access the removable reservoir and grounds container.
- You are buying across borders and cannot obtain a matching voltage, warranty and service arrangement.

What you get for the price
The US listing’s $1,299.95 price places the ECAM32070SB in a premium home-superautomatic tier, but its value depends on how often you use the automation. A household ordering multiple drinks each day may make better use of the 18 recipes, profiles and automatic milk system than someone who drinks one simple coffee and enjoys manual preparation.
Budget for ongoing consumables and care rather than evaluating only the purchase price. Whole beans are the normal consumable, and the machine supports a water filter and descaling. The US page names the DLSC002 filter and DLSC200 Decalk Care products; whether you need an additional filter or descaler immediately depends on what is included with your seller’s package and on local water conditions.
The two-year warranty stated on the US listing is part of the purchase decision. Keep the receipt and confirm whether the warranty is valid for the seller, country and exact model suffix you are considering.
Important limits of the available evidence
The manufacturer supplies the feature counts, capacities, electrical data and warranty information. Those figures describe the product as listed; they are not independent tests. Ideal Home supplies one reviewer’s experience from a UK test kitchen on 12 February 2025.
