The 2026 Dell XPS 13 is the better fit if you want a lightweight Windows laptop with a larger touchscreen and 120Hz refresh; the MacBook Neo is the stronger pick if you prefer macOS, want the brighter measured display, or prioritize the benchmark results cited here. Both start at $699 on Dell’s U.S. comparison page, but the best choice depends on the exact configuration, your apps, and how you use the screen and ports.

Which one should you choose?

Choose the XPS 13 if you want Windows and a more flexible screen

  • You need Windows for particular work software, games, peripherals, or an established workflow.
  • You want a touchscreen, a larger panel, or refresh rates up to 120Hz; the Neo’s display is non-touch.
  • You value the lower listed weight: 2.2 pounds for the XPS versus 2.7 pounds for the Neo, as reported on the cited manufacturer and review pages.
  • You want a backlit keyboard, Wi-Fi 7, or the option of more memory in some configurations; confirm these features on the exact model you are considering. Dell comparison page

Choose the MacBook Neo if macOS or the measured display and benchmark results matter more

  • You prefer macOS or rely on Apple’s device and app ecosystem.
  • You want the brighter screen in Tom’s Guide’s measurements: 452 nits SDR for Neo compared with 398 nits for XPS.
  • You prioritize the benchmark results in Tom’s Guide’s comparison. Its Geekbench 6 results were 3,535 single-core and 8,920 multicore for Neo, versus 2,684 and 7,952 for XPS. These are that outlet’s results, not a guarantee for every workload or configuration. Tom’s Guide comparison

How do the screens compare?

The XPS trades a larger, sharper, touch-capable panel with variable refresh up to 120Hz for lower measured brightness and color coverage in Tom’s Guide’s comparison. The Neo’s panel measured 452 nits SDR and 78% DCI-P3, compared with 398 nits and 74.7% for the XPS. Those measurements indicate an advantage for the Neo in that review’s brightness and gamut tests; they do not establish that every viewer will prefer its image.

Is either laptop suitable for gaming or graphics-heavy work?

Neither is a strong choice for demanding gaming based on Tom’s Guide’s cited results. The XPS scored 2,455, or 14 fps, in 3DMark Wildlife Extreme; the Neo scored 3,661, or 21 fps. In Tom’s Guide’s Borderlands 3 test at 1080p, the XPS reached 8.7 fps, which the outlet described as unplayable; it also reported a low Neo result in that test. If sustained gaming or graphics-heavy work is central to your needs, look beyond this pair. Tom’s Guide comparison

How do price and configurations affect the choice?

Dell lists both laptops from $699 on its U.S. comparison page and lists eligible student pricing for the XPS from $599. These are manufacturer-listed starting prices, not a promise of current stock or street price; configurations and offers can change, and prices vary by region. Compare the RAM and storage in the exact listings: PCWorld’s XPS test unit had 8GB RAM and a 512GB SSD, while Dell lists higher-memory options. Dell comparison page Dell announcement

For everyday web, office, and streaming use, both are positioned as budget-friendly choices. PCWorld’s reviewer called the XPS compelling but slightly behind the Neo, while Tom’s Guide called it the best budget Windows laptop. Those are individual reviewers’ judgments, not a universal ranking. PCWorld review Tom’s Guide review
