There is no verified side-by-side test behind the headline’s “I Tested” claim. The available evidence supports a specifications-based comparison, not a personal test or a measured winner. On paper, the 2026 Dell XPS 13 is lighter and offers a larger, touch-enabled display with a higher variable refresh rate; the MacBook Neo has clearly specified USB-C speeds and Apple’s stated battery figures. Which fits better depends on your software, configuration, and peripherals—not the processor names alone.

What this comparison can—and cannot—tell you

Dell’s comparison page and launch materials describe the XPS 13, while Apple’s technical specifications describe the MacBook Neo. They establish listed features and manufacturer battery claims, but not matched performance results. There is no controlled battery run, common benchmark, or independent measurement here, so the figures below should not be read as results from a hands-on head-to-head test.

Dell’s comparison is useful for identifying how Dell positions its laptop, but its evaluative winner language is promotional. The comparison below sticks to product specifications and attributes claims to their manufacturers.

How the listed configurations differ

The models are not necessarily being compared at equivalent configurations. Dell identifies the 2026 XPS 13 as model DX13260, lists a US Core 5 320 product configuration, and says specifications can change with selected options. Its launch material describes configurations with Core Ultra Series 3 processors, up to 32 GB of memory, and up to 1 TB of storage. Apple lists the MacBook Neo with an A18 Pro chip, 8 GB of unified memory, and a 256 GB or 512 GB SSD.

Display: the XPS is larger and touch-enabled on paper

Dell lists the XPS 13 with a 13.4-inch, 2560 × 1600 touchscreen and a 30–120 Hz variable refresh rate. Apple lists the Neo’s display as 13.0 inches, 2408 × 1506, and 500 nits, with sRGB color. Dell’s comparison identifies the Neo as non-touch. These listed characteristics distinguish the panels, but they do not establish which looks better in person: that depends on factors such as viewing conditions and individual preference.

Battery-life numbers are not a head-to-head result

Dell advertises up to 17 hours of streaming for the XPS 13 and describes a test configuration with the screen at 150 nits. Apple advertises up to 16 hours of video streaming and up to 11 hours of wireless web use for the Neo. The vendors’ protocols are not established as equivalent, so the one-hour difference between their streaming claims cannot show which laptop lasts longer under the same workload. Treat these as separate manufacturer estimates, not a comparative battery test.

Ports and external displays: check the devices you need to connect

Apple specifies two USB-C ports on the Neo, with different capabilities: one supports USB 3 up to 10 Gbps and DisplayPort, while the other supports USB 2 up to 480 Mbps. Apple lists support for one external display at up to 4K and 60 Hz. Dell’s comparison says the XPS 13 has two ports, charging on either side, and support for multiple external displays; verify the details for the specific XPS configuration before choosing a monitor or dock.

  • If you plan to connect a monitor to the Neo, account for its documented one-display limit and the USB-C port’s stated capabilities.
  • If your setup needs multiple external displays on the XPS, confirm support for your intended monitor resolution and refresh rate with the exact model and connection method.
  • Both models have two listed ports in the comparison, so count the peripherals you expect to use at once before deciding whether adapters or a dock are needed.

Portability: the XPS has the lower listed weight

Dell lists the XPS 13 at 2.2 lb and the MacBook Neo at 2.7 lb, alongside display sizes of 13.4 inches and 13.0 inches respectively. These are manufacturer-listed product figures, not independent measurements made for this comparison. If carrying weight is a priority, the listed figures favor the XPS; consider the actual configuration and any accessories you carry as well.

Windows or macOS may decide the purchase

The XPS 13 runs Windows 11, while the Neo runs macOS. Start with the applications and workflows you need: confirm that essential school, work, creative, or specialist software supports your chosen operating system and that your files and peripherals work with it. If you already rely on one platform’s ecosystem, switching can matter more than a difference in listed screen size or weight.

Prices depend on location, eligibility, and configuration

Dell’s US launch article dated May 31, 2026 says, “The XPS 13 starts at $699.” It also describes a $599 price for eligible students during a back-to-school offer. Dell’s US comparison page, last updated in August 2026, lists matching starting prices for the Neo. Those are US figures reported by Dell, not a guarantee of today’s checkout price or a price available in other countries. Which one should you choose?

  • Lean toward the XPS 13 if the listed lower weight, larger touchscreen, 30–120 Hz variable refresh rate, or higher available memory and storage configurations matter to your work—and the Windows software you need is supported.
  • Lean toward the MacBook Neo if macOS suits your workflow, 8 GB of unified memory and its listed storage choices are adequate, and its specified USB-C and single-external-display support meet your setup needs.
  • Compare exact configurations before paying if performance, battery endurance, or total cost is decisive. The sources cited here do not establish a matched performance or battery winner, and the starting prices do not describe every configuration.
