Choose the Intel Dell Pro 7 14 P714260 when Thunderbolt 4 docking, external displays, and battery endurance matter more than maximum sustained CPU speed. Notebookcheck’s 2026 comparison found that the Intel model delivered the more useful mobility and desk-connectivity package, while the AMD Dell Pro 7 14 P714265 produced higher raw processor performance.
That verdict applies to the configurations tested and compared, not automatically to every laptop sold under the P714260 number. Dell offers several Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 options, and memory, display, storage, and pricing can change by SKU. Treat the specifications below as a buying framework, then verify the exact configuration on the listing you intend to order.
What the Dell Pro 7 14 P714260 is
P714260 is Dell’s model number for the Intel version of its Dell Pro 7 14 laptop. The AMD counterpart discussed in Notebookcheck’s comparison is P714265. Dell also sells a related 2-in-1, but that convertible uses model number P704260; it is not the same machine as the P714260 clamshell laptop.
Dell’s product family includes multiple Intel Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 processor choices. Consequently, a P714260 listing can describe a lower-priced business configuration or a much more expensive, high-memory review configuration. The processor, RAM capacity, panel, SSD, operating-system edition, and included wireless hardware should all be checked on the individual SKU.

Quick verdict: Intel or AMD?
The Intel P714260 is the better fit for a business user who routinely moves between a home office, company desk, meeting room, and travel bag. Thunderbolt 4 simplifies compatible one-cable docking, Intel’s integrated graphics were slightly faster in the cited comparison, PCIe 5 support raises the platform’s storage interface ceiling, and the Intel configuration lasted longer on battery in Notebookcheck’s testing.
The AMD P714265 is the stronger choice for sustained processor-heavy work when raw CPU throughput is the priority. Notebookcheck measured higher processor performance from the AMD counterpart in its comparison. That advantage matters for long compiles, repeated media exports, large data transforms, and other workloads that keep the CPU busy for extended periods.
| Buying priority | Preferred version | Reason from the comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Thunderbolt 4 docking and external-display flexibility | Intel P714260 | Thunderbolt 4 is an Intel-side advantage identified by Notebookcheck. |
| Longer battery life for mobile work | Intel P714260 | The Intel version lasted longer in the cited review comparison. |
| Slightly stronger integrated graphics | Intel P714260 | Notebookcheck reported a small graphics-performance lead for Intel. |
| Sustained CPU throughput | AMD P714265 | The AMD counterpart delivered higher raw processor performance in the comparison. |

Notebookcheck reviewed a high-end P714260 fitted with an Intel Core Ultra 7 366H vPro processor, 64 GB of soldered LPDDR5x memory, and a 1,920 × 1,200-pixel IPS panel running at 120 Hz. The tested laptop weighed 1.355 kg. Notebookcheck also noted that lower-specification versions were available, so these figures describe the review unit rather than a guaranteed P714260 specification.
The review gave that tested configuration an overall score of 85% and an Office weighted average of 69%. Those are Notebookcheck review scores, not percentages of all P714260 systems and not battery-life measurements. They should be read as an assessment of the particular machine examined.
Notebookcheck’s unit was supplied by Dell, and the review states that publication was not subject to an obligation to Dell. The conclusions therefore describe independent editorial testing of that configuration, while retail availability and component combinations remain SKU-dependent.

Intel’s practical advantages over the AMD model
Thunderbolt 4 for a multi-desk setup
Thunderbolt 4 is the most consequential difference for people who use a laptop as a portable desktop. A compatible Thunderbolt dock can carry charging, USB peripherals, networking, and external-display connections through one cable. That makes it easier to leave a keyboard, mouse, Ethernet connection, storage, and monitors attached at each desk instead of reconnecting each accessory every time you arrive.
Thunderbolt support does not guarantee that every dock-and-monitor combination will behave identically. Check the dock’s host requirements, power-delivery rating, display outputs, operating-system support, and the resolution and refresh rate of each monitor. The laptop’s port capability is only one part of the chain. If your setup depends on several high-resolution displays, confirm the dock’s bandwidth and display topology before purchase.
Longer battery endurance
Notebookcheck found longer battery life for the Intel version than for the AMD counterpart in its comparison. That makes P714260 the more attractive option for travel days, meetings away from an outlet, and work sessions in which carrying a charger is inconvenient.
Battery results still vary with the processor option, screen brightness, refresh rate, wireless activity, workload, and battery condition. A 120 Hz panel, sustained compilation, video calls, and external peripherals can consume power faster than light document work. The comparison establishes a relative Intel advantage in the tested systems; it does not promise a fixed number of hours for every P714260 SKU.
Slightly faster integrated graphics
The Intel configuration also had a small integrated-graphics advantage in Notebookcheck’s comparison. That can help with ordinary acceleration in productivity software, browser interfaces, and light graphics work. It is not a basis for treating the P714260 as a dedicated gaming or workstation graphics laptop; no discrete-GPU performance claim is established here.

Dell’s support documentation lists PCIe support up to Gen5 for the P714260 platform. This is an interface ceiling, not proof that every retail unit contains a PCIe 5 SSD. A particular configuration can ship with a slower-generation drive, and the installed drive model should be checked in the SKU specification.

Where AMD remains the better choice
Sustained processor workloads
Notebookcheck’s direct comparison gave the AMD P714265 higher raw processor performance. If the laptop spends much of its day compiling software, rendering, encoding, calculating engineering models, or processing large datasets, that result carries more weight than the Intel model’s docking convenience.
Do not generalize the result to every processor sold under either family name. Dell offers multiple Core Ultra choices for P714260, and the AMD counterpart also has its own configuration variations. Compare the exact CPU model and power limits in the listings you are considering. The review’s conclusion is a comparison of the tested machines, not a guarantee that every AMD SKU will outperform every Intel SKU.
When a dock is not part of your workflow
If you work mainly from the laptop screen, use a single USB-C accessory, and value maximum CPU throughput over one-cable desk connectivity, the AMD model’s performance advantage may be more useful. Paying for a capability you will never use is a poor reason to select Intel.

Configuration details that can change the buying decision
Processor choices
Dell lists Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 options for the P714260 family. The reviewed machine used the Core Ultra 7 366H vPro, but a listing with a Core Ultra 5 is a different performance proposition. Read the complete processor designation rather than stopping at “Core Ultra 7”; model number, vPro status, and configured power limits can affect business manageability and sustained speed.
Soldered, non-expandable memory
Notebookcheck lists soldered, non-expandable RAM as a drawback and recorded 64 GB of LPDDR5x in its test unit. Because the memory is soldered in that configuration, you cannot plan on replacing modules later. Select enough memory at purchase for the laptop’s expected service life, especially if you run virtual machines, large development environments, data-analysis tools, or many browser tabs.
Do not assume that a P714260 advertised with 64 GB has the same processor or panel as the reviewed unit. Confirm the memory amount and type in the exact product page, and treat any statement about upgradeability as configuration-specific.

No secondary M.2 SSD slot in the review configuration
Notebookcheck lists the lack of a secondary M.2 SSD slot as another limitation. That means future storage expansion may require replacing the existing drive rather than adding a second internal drive. Check the service manual and the exact SKU before relying on an internal multi-drive plan, and budget for external storage if your workflow needs large archives.
Display choices
The tested panel measured 1,920 × 1,200 pixels at 120 Hz. Notebookcheck also notes that touchscreen options are limited to 1,200p. A 16:10 1,920 × 1,200 screen provides more vertical workspace than a 16:9 1,920 × 1,080 panel, but it is not a high-resolution 2,560 × 1,600 or 4K display.
Refresh rate, touch support, brightness, color coverage, and panel technology should be verified on the SKU you want. The review’s 120 Hz IPS specification should not be presented as the universal P714260 display.
Weight and chassis considerations
At 1.355 kg in Notebookcheck’s tested configuration, the laptop is portable for a 14-inch business system, but the review still describes the chassis as somewhat weighty. Include the charger and any dock in your travel calculation. A buyer who prioritizes the lightest possible carry may judge the trade-off differently from someone who values ports, durability, and desk connectivity.

Use this checklist before choosing Intel specifically for a docked workflow:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- List every desk accessory. Count monitors, USB storage, Ethernet, headset, webcam, keyboard, mouse, and charging needs.
- Match the dock to the laptop. Confirm that the dock explicitly supports Thunderbolt 4 hosts and provides enough power for the P714260 configuration.
- Check monitor requirements. Compare each display’s resolution and refresh rate with the dock’s supported outputs and bandwidth.
- Verify the cable path. Use a certified Thunderbolt 4 cable where the dock manufacturer requires one; a generic USB-C cable may not deliver the same capabilities.
- Test the actual desk arrangement. Even compatible hardware can need firmware updates, display-driver updates, or a different connection order when several monitors are attached.
The P714260’s Thunderbolt 4 capability makes this workflow possible, but no particular dock model has been validated for every display arrangement. Treat the dock as a system purchase rather than an automatic guarantee.

Pricing and value
Pricing is unusually configuration-sensitive for this model. At the time of the cited research, a Dell US search result showed a starting listing price of $2,184, while Notebookcheck reported approximately $4,900 for its tested unit and said entry configurations were slightly above $2,000. These are geographically and temporally volatile figures, not a current price promise.
The large gap between entry and review pricing reflects the difference between a lower SKU and a high-end configuration with Core Ultra 7 366H vPro, 64 GB soldered memory, and the tested 120 Hz panel. Before comparing Intel and AMD on value, normalize the configurations:
- Match the processor tier and exact model.
- Match memory capacity, remembering that soldered RAM cannot be upgraded in the reviewed configuration.
- Match display resolution, refresh rate, and touch capability.
- Match SSD capacity and generation; PCIe Gen5 support does not mean a Gen5 drive is installed.
- Include the cost of a compatible dock if your workflow depends on one.
Recheck Dell’s price, stock, promotions, and configuration options at the time of purchase. A temporary sale or regional listing can change the value calculation quickly.

Who should buy the Intel P714260?
Good fit
- Professionals who move between multiple desks and want Thunderbolt 4 one-cable docking.
- Traveling workers who place a high value on the longer battery result reported in the comparison.
- Users who need external displays and peripherals more often than they need maximum CPU throughput.
- Buyers who prefer the Intel platform’s PCIe Gen5 interface ceiling and slightly stronger integrated graphics in the reviewed comparison.
- Organizations that can select a sufficiently large memory configuration up front because RAM may be soldered.
Consider the AMD counterpart instead
- Your main workload is sustained, CPU-heavy processing and the AMD configuration is priced comparably.
- You rarely use external displays or a Thunderbolt dock.
- You would rather trade some mobility and connectivity advantages for the higher raw processor performance reported by Notebookcheck.
Buying checklist for a specific P714260 listing
Before placing an order, record the exact details shown for that SKU:
- Model identity: confirm it is P714260, not the P704260 2-in-1.
- CPU: write down the complete Core Ultra 5 or Core Ultra 7 model and whether vPro is included.
- Memory: verify capacity and whether the seller describes it as soldered; plan for the laptop’s full service life.
- Display: confirm 1,920 × 1,200 versus another resolution, 120 Hz versus another refresh rate, IPS or another panel type, and touch support.
- Storage: check SSD capacity and generation instead of assuming PCIe Gen5 from platform support alone.
- Expansion: confirm whether the machine has a second M.2 slot if internal multi-drive storage is important.
- Docking: verify Thunderbolt 4 support on the listed configuration and separately validate your intended dock and monitors.
- Weight: compare the listed system weight and charger weight with your travel expectations.
- Price and warranty: record the region, currency, promotion end date, and business-support terms, since the cited figures are not stable worldwide.
Limitations noted in the review
Notebookcheck identified several compromises alongside the Intel advantages: soldered and non-expandable memory, no secondary M.2 SSD slot in the tested configuration, touchscreen choices limited to 1,200p, CPU Turbo Boost performance that could be better, and a chassis described as somewhat weighty. These findings are useful warnings, but internal layout and options should still be checked against the exact SKU and service documentation.
The review therefore supports a focused verdict rather than a blanket recommendation. Intel makes the most sense when docking, battery endurance, and a slightly stronger integrated-graphics result are central to the job. AMD makes more sense when sustained processor performance is the deciding metric.
Final buying recommendation
Buy the Dell Pro 7 14 P714260 when your workday alternates between travel and a Thunderbolt 4-equipped desk, and select the processor, memory, display, and SSD configuration carefully. The Intel model’s advantages are practical: easier docking, longer battery life in the cited comparison, slightly faster integrated graphics, and PCIe Gen5 platform support.
