The Dell 16S is a capable large-screen laptop for everyday work, but whether it offers good value depends on the exact configuration and price. Independent reviews found the Core Ultra 7 355 model competent for routine productivity, not exceptional, and noted shortcomings in SSD write speeds and parts of the display and design. Check the screen, memory, storage, and price of the specific model before deciding.
What the Dell 16S offers
The Dell 16S is a family of 16-inch laptops, not a single fixed specification. Dell’s US configuration page, checked October 7, 2026, listed four processor options: Core Ultra 5 322 with 6 cores, Core Ultra 7 355 with 8 cores, Core Ultra X7 358H with 16 cores, and Core Ultra 9 386H with 16 cores. Available memory and storage options included onboard 16GB or 32GB LPDDR5x and a 512GB or 1TB M.2 2230 SSD. The selected configuration used integrated Intel Graphics. Options and prices vary by configuration and region; Dell’s page did not establish one universal price. Dell’s US listing
The panel can make a substantial difference to the experience. Dell listed FHD+ 1920×1200 non-touch and touch panels, both rated at 400 nits and 60Hz; a QHD+ 2560×1600 non-touch panel rated at 500 nits and 120Hz; and a 2880×1800 OLED touchscreen rated at 400 nits and 120Hz. These are not interchangeable versions of the same screen: resolution, refresh rate, touch support, and panel technology differ. Check the listing’s exact screen specification rather than assuming every Dell 16S has the OLED panel.
Dell also lists a 70Wh battery, Wi-Fi 7, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI 2.1, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, and a headset port. These features can suit a desk setup with external displays and peripherals, but confirm the ports and configuration on the regional listing before purchase. Dell 16S specifications

How it performs for everyday work
ITPro tested a Dell 16S with a Core Ultra 7 355, integrated Intel Graphics, 16GB LPDDR5X memory, and a 512GB SSD. In Geekbench 6, that sample scored 2,683 in single-core and 11,052 in multi-core performance. ITPro characterized the results as solid but unspectacular: a reasonable fit for routine productivity, but not evidence that the whole product range performs identically. The same review reported an OpenCL graphics score of 24,616 and described graphics as suitable for basic-to-moderately intensive work. ITPro’s Dell 16S review
Notebookcheck tested a different DS16260 configuration with a Core Ultra 7 355, 16GB RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a 2880×1800 OLED touchscreen. It reported 11,475 in Geekbench 6.7 multi-core. That figure comes from a different review and benchmark version, so it should not be treated as a direct contradiction of ITPro’s result or as a guarantee for other configurations. Notebookcheck also notes that component suppliers may differ between units. Notebookcheck’s Dell 16S DS16260 review

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
ITPro criticized the tested unit’s SSD write speeds. If your work regularly involves moving large files or saving substantial creative projects, that is a reason to inspect reviews of the exact configuration and consider whether the storage performance meets your needs. A larger SSD capacity does not, on its own, establish faster write performance.
Is it suitable for graphic design or gaming?
“Graphic design” covers a wide range of work. The reviewed Core Ultra 7 355 models use integrated Intel Graphics, which ITPro considered suitable for basic-to-moderately intensive graphics work. That may be adequate for lighter design tasks, but the benchmark does not establish performance for every application, file size, or professional workflow. For demanding 3D work or other GPU-heavy tasks, the available evidence does not show the Dell 16S as a substitute for a laptop with dedicated graphics.

Notebookcheck’s game results varied sharply by title and settings, with demanding games performing poorly at high settings. The integrated-graphics configurations are better regarded as options for light gaming and less demanding workloads than as dedicated gaming laptops. Notebookcheck’s benchmark and game results
What to expect from the screen and build
The 16-inch display gives you more working area than a smaller laptop, but the experience depends on which panel you buy. The QHD+ 120Hz and OLED options offer higher resolution and refresh rate than the FHD+ 60Hz panels; OLED also differs in panel technology. Do not pay a premium for a configuration based on the assumption that all Dell 16S listings include the same display.

ITPro praised the chassis’s sturdy aluminum feel but said details such as the display surround and keyboard and touchpad styling detracted from a premium impression. Its review therefore presents a mixed picture: a solid-feeling chassis, with design details that may not match what buyers expect from a high-priced laptop. ITPro’s Dell 16S review
Battery life: understand Dell’s 29-hour claim
Dell advertises “up to 29 hours” of battery life, but that is a controlled local-video playback result—not a typical runtime promise across the product line. Dell says its Labs test was conducted in April 2026 on a configuration with a Core Ultra 7 355, Intel Graphics, an FHD display, 16GB memory, and a 1TB SSD, at 150 nits with wireless enabled. Dell warns that actual battery life may be significantly less and varies with configuration and use. Its separate Netflix streaming test setup does not provide a Dell 16S runtime figure in the cited material. Dell’s battery-test details

How portable is a 16-inch laptop?
The large screen comes with a portability trade-off. Notebookcheck measured its reviewed OLED DS16260 at 1.802kg. That is a result for that sample, not a weight specification for every Dell 16S configuration. Which? likewise describes the 16-inch format as a compromise: more screen space in exchange for less portability. If you will carry the laptop regularly, compare the exact configuration’s listed weight with the smaller laptops you are considering. Notebookcheck’s review · Which?’s Dell 16S review listing
When the Dell 16S is—and isn’t—good value
The Dell 16S makes the most sense when you want a roomy screen for home, study, or office work and can buy a configuration whose panel, memory, storage, and processor match your needs at a competitive regional price. The Core Ultra 7 355 review evidence supports everyday productivity, but it does not show exceptional performance, and the SSD write-speed criticism is relevant if large file transfers are part of your routine.
Be especially cautious about paying a large premium for a higher processor tier without checking what else changes. ITPro questioned a UK price close to £2,000 for a Core Ultra 9 386H/32GB configuration when the display remained the same. That was the reviewer’s judgment about a specific UK configuration and pricing context in its August 28, 2026 review; it is not a current price quote or a verdict for other regions. - Screen: Confirm resolution, refresh rate, touch support, and whether the panel is OLED.
- Workload: Treat integrated Intel Graphics as a fit for everyday tasks and lighter creative or gaming use, not demanding GPU-heavy work.
- Memory and storage: Check the installed capacity and do not assume a larger SSD means faster write speeds.
- Portability: Verify the weight of the specific configuration and decide whether the 16-inch size suits your routine.
- Price: Compare like-for-like configurations in your region. A processor upgrade alone does not establish better overall value.
