The Dell 14 Plus 2-in-1 DB04255 is a practical midrange laptop for everyday study, office work, and general computing, with a 360-degree hinge and touchscreen for occasional tablet use. Its main compromise is the 300-nit display: reviewers consider screen quality a more noticeable weakness in a convertible, where you use the panel up close and in more positions. The US configuration Dell lists pairs a Ryzen AI 5 340 with 16 GB of memory and a 512 GB SSD; check the exact local configuration and price before buying.

What the DB04255 is—and which configuration this review covers

DB04255 is the AMD version of Dell’s 14 Plus 2-in-1. It is distinct from the Intel DB04250 and from the standard clamshell 14 Plus, so specifications and impressions for those models should not be assumed to apply here.

Dell’s US product page lists a configuration with an AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 processor, Radeon 840M integrated graphics, 16 GB of LPDDR5X memory, and a 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD. The page also displays a Ryzen AI 7 350 configuration with 16 GB of memory and a 1 TB SSD. These are the configurations shown for the US market; availability and specifications can differ by region. How well does it suit everyday work?

TechRadar’s 2025 review describes performance as similar to the standard 14 Plus and considers the laptop capable for general productivity. That is a reviewer assessment, not a controlled performance benchmark for every DB04255 configuration. The Ryzen AI 5 340 configuration is the more modest of Dell’s two listed options; the Ryzen AI 7 350 version has a higher-tier processor and more storage, while both displayed configurations have 16 GB of memory. Choose based on workload, local price, and the storage you need rather than assuming the processor name alone guarantees a particular speed advantage.

For ordinary documents, browsing, video calls, and study tasks, the 16 GB configuration is a sensible mainstream starting point. Radeon 840M is integrated graphics, so this is best viewed as a productivity and general-use convertible rather than a laptop selected for demanding graphics work. The available sources do not establish comparative gaming or creative-app performance for this exact model.

Is the touchscreen good enough for tablet use?

Dell specifies a 14-inch, 1920 × 1200 WVA touchscreen with 300-nit brightness. The 16:10 resolution provides more vertical workspace than a 16:9 1080p screen, which can be useful for documents and web pages. But 300 nits is a modest brightness specification, and TechRadar identifies display quality as a more serious drawback on the 2-in-1 than on the clamshell because the screen matters more when the laptop is used as a tablet. The 360-degree hinge makes it possible to fold the display back for tablet-style use or position it in a stand or tent configuration. That flexibility is worthwhile if you will regularly touch, present, or read on the screen. It is less compelling if the laptop will stay on a desk in conventional clamshell mode, since the display compromise remains without delivering much benefit. Dell’s brochure excerpt says the model supports an active pen, but exact stylus compatibility and whether a pen is included have not been established. Dell’s DB04255 brochure page

Power adapter 65 W USB-C charger, per Dell

The two USB-C ports support charging and display output, but the listed USB-C standard is USB 3.2 Gen 2—not Thunderbolt. If your setup depends on Thunderbolt-specific docks or high-resolution HDMI output, verify your exact connection requirements before purchase. Dell’s stated HDMI limit is 1080p at 60 Hz, a relevant constraint for an external monitor. A USB-C hub may help if you need more connections, but it is not required for everyone.

Battery life: what is—and is not—known

Dell specifies a 64 Wh battery, but that capacity does not establish how many hours the laptop lasts in real use. The sources available for this exact model do not provide a reliable measured runtime for the DB04255 configuration. Expect actual endurance to depend on factors such as screen brightness, workload, wireless use, and configuration; do not treat battery capacity as an hours-of-use claim.

What reviewers say about the trade-offs

TechRadar’s review finds the convertible’s value depends on whether a buyer will use its 2-in-1 flexibility. Alongside the display concern, the reviewer reports that the trackpad occasionally felt sticky. These are subjective review impressions, not laboratory findings or a claim that every unit behaves the same way. No public CHOICE score or quantitative test result is available to balance those impressions.

Who should buy the Dell 14 Plus 2-in-1 DB04255?

It makes sense if you:

  • Want a 14-inch touchscreen laptop that can fold into tablet, stand, or tent modes.
  • Mostly handle everyday office, study, browsing, and video-call tasks.
  • Can accept a 300-nit screen and will choose a configuration whose price makes sense in your region.

Look elsewhere if you:

  • Prioritize a brighter or better-reviewed screen for frequent tablet use or work in bright environments.
  • Need Thunderbolt connectivity or HDMI output beyond the manufacturer’s stated 1080p/60 limit.
  • Need proven long battery runtime, dedicated graphics, or measured performance evidence for a demanding workload.

Buying checklist

  1. Confirm the model number is DB04255, not the Intel DB04250 or the non-convertible 14 Plus.
  2. Check the country-specific listing for the exact processor, memory, SSD, and current price. Dell’s US page shows Ryzen AI 5 340/16 GB/512 GB and Ryzen AI 7 350/16 GB/1 TB options.
  3. Compare the display, ports, weight, warranty, and local support with other 14-inch convertibles at the same price.
  4. If pen input matters, confirm compatible stylus models and whether a pen is included with the exact SKU.
  5. For external displays, verify the 1080p/60 HDMI limit works for your setup; for battery expectations, seek a test of the exact configuration under conditions similar to your use.
