Serving DeepSeek-V3 with SGLang is a multi-GPU deployment, not a typical single-GPU setup. The right starting point depends on the checkpoint’s weight format, the GPUs available, and whether you are optimizing for throughput or latency. For the official DeepSeek-V3 checkpoint, the key configuration detail is that it is already FP8: do not add an FP8 quantization flag when launching it.

For one alternative, the SGLang deployment README describes converting the FP8 checkpoint to BF16 for an A100 deployment. Its example uses four nodes, each with eight 80 GB A100 GPUs, and describes the converted BF16 model as over 1.3 TB. This is an example path, not a requirement for all deployments.

Match parallelism to the serving objective
The deployment README’s DeepSeek-V3 Docker example uses tensor parallelism of eight with --tp 8. Tensor parallelism distributes model computation across GPUs, so the value should match the actual GPU layout and the configuration you are using—not be copied blindly to a different device count or multi-node arrangement.
The cookbook describes data-parallel attention as useful for high-throughput serving with large batches. It cautions against using it for low-latency, small-batch workloads. Choose the mode based on the traffic pattern you need to serve, then benchmark under that workload.

Optional parser settings
Basic text generation does not require reasoning or tool-call parser flags. If your application needs those behaviors, the cookbook documents --reasoning-parser deepseek-v3 for reasoning and a tool-calling example using --tool-call-parser deepseekv3 together with a chat template. Apply the options only for the matching application behavior and verify their spelling against the SGLang version you install.
Slow model loading and timeouts
If model loading is slow and a distributed timeout occurs, the cookbook notes --dist-timeout 3600 as a timeout adjustment. It is a troubleshooting option for that failure mode, not a required default for every launch. Check the option against your installed version.

SGLang documents bench_serving for serving measurements and separate accuracy and latency evaluation commands. Use the current SGLang documentation for command syntax and workload options; the available details here do not specify exact invocations or results for every configuration.
Report the hardware, GPU count and arrangement, checkpoint format, SGLang version, prompt/workload settings, and concurrency with any benchmark result. The cookbook’s published benchmark context is DeepSeek-V3 on eight AMD MI300X GPUs, tensor parallelism 8, SGLang 0.5.7, and its stated prompt and concurrency setup. The cookbook does not identify a publication year for those results. Those conditions are not interchangeable with another cluster, software version, or traffic pattern, so do not treat the reported results as a performance promise for your deployment.
