DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017 is the company’s October 17, 2026 update to V4.1-Flash. It reports a 77.0 score on DeepSWE v1.1, faster task completion and shorter outputs, while opening Search & Fetch APIs to all users.
DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017 is now available on DeepSeek’s website, mobile app and API. The API identifier remains deepseek-flash, so existing integrations should continue to target that model name rather than a new version-specific identifier. DeepSeek says the update improves benchmark performance, reduces completion time and produces shorter answers.
What changed on October 17, 2026
- The V4.1-Flash model was updated to V4.1-Flash-1017 across DeepSeek’s website, app and API.
- The company published new coding, reasoning, agent and multimodal benchmark results.
- Search & Fetch APIs became available to everyone.
- Open-weight copies are available through Hugging Face and ModelScope.
DeepSeek also says the model is optimized for DeepSeek Harness, Tencent CodeBuddy and WorkBuddy, related coding-agent environments, and OpenCode.

Did DeepSeek really score 77.0 on DeepSWE?
Yes. DeepSeek’s October 17 change log reports 77.0 on DeepSWE v1.1. That is a company-reported result, not an independently administered comparison, and the score was obtained with the Mini-SWE-V2 framework. The framework matters because agent benchmarks can change substantially with tool access, prompting, scaffolding and evaluation rules.

The figures establish what DeepSeek reports for this release; they do not constitute a universal ranking against every competing model. Scores using different harnesses or tool settings should not be treated as directly interchangeable.
Architecture and capabilities
The September V4.1-Flash release describes a 552-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts model built with a new causal encoder-decoder architecture. It activates about 8 billion parameters for input processing and 16 billion for output generation, rather than running all parameters on every token. The design supports native visual understanding as well as text and coding workloads.
DeepSeek says the architecture targets higher capability, faster inference, greater throughput and a path to scaling larger models. It also reports that the newer key-value cache requires one quarter of the high-bandwidth memory and one eighth of the solid-state storage used by the previous generation. Those are DeepSeek’s own architecture claims, not independent hardware measurements, so actual savings will depend on the serving stack, context length and deployment configuration.
What opening Search & Fetch means
Agents can now call DeepSeek’s hosted search and fetch tools when a task needs current web information, a source page or retrieved document content. The documented search endpoint is:
Rank #3
POST https://api.deepseek.com/v1/tools/search
Search finds relevant web results; Fetch retrieves source content for an agent to inspect. DeepSeek says its in-house search engine handles hundreds of millions of requests daily.
Pricing and the free period
DeepSeek lists Search and Fetch at $0.75 per 1,000 calls. Server-side Search & Fetch calls made through DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code and Codex are currently free for DeepSeek API users. According to the October 17 announcement, billing for those calls starts on October 31, 2026 at 16:00 UTC. Teams should therefore record call volume and confirm account billing settings before that cutoff.

Using V4.1-Flash-1017 in coding agents
The model is intended for coding-agent workflows rather than only chat completion. To adopt it safely:
Best Value
- Keep the provider’s model value as
deepseek-flash; the API has not introduced a separatedeepseek-v4.1-flash-1017identifier. - Use a supported agent environment such as DeepSeek Harness, Tencent CodeBuddy or WorkBuddy, or OpenCode.
- Run your own repository tasks with the same tools, permissions, context limits and retry policy you use in production. Benchmark harness differences can otherwise make results look better or worse than your workload.
- If the agent needs current documentation or external facts, enable the server-side Search & Fetch tools and monitor calls as the October 31 billing time approaches.
- Review generated patches, shell commands and fetched sources before allowing changes to merge or execute automatically.
Availability and deployment implications
Individuals can access the release through DeepSeek’s web and app interfaces or through the API. Developers who need self-managed distribution can obtain the open weights from Hugging Face or ModelScope, subject to the applicable model terms and their own hardware capacity.
For larger deployments, DeepSeek invites organizations planning installations with at least 2,000 GPUs plus a storage cluster to contact the company. That requirement places the model’s largest-scale serving scenario in enterprise infrastructure rather than ordinary single-workstation use.
What the release means for users
V4.1-Flash-1017 combines a strong reported software-engineering score with a lower-friction web-retrieval path for agents. The practical decision is less about the headline 77.0 than about whether your evaluation reproduces the relevant harness, whether multimodal input is useful, and whether your serving environment benefits from DeepSeek’s claimed cache-footprint reductions. Search access also changes operating costs: it is temporarily free in specified server-side integrations, but becomes a metered capability at the announced billing time.
