Deep Siren Demo is a free Steam demo released on September 27, 2026. Its published minimums are modest: 4 GB of RAM and 1 GB of storage on Windows and SteamOS + Linux, with OpenGL 2.0-compatible graphics. macOS requires Catalina (10.15) or later. On Steam Deck, however, the store currently shows Steam Deck Compatibility: Unknown. That means Valve has not checked the game yet; the listing does not establish Verified or Playable status, controller support, readable text, stable frame rates, or reliable operation.
What the Deep Siren Demo requirements actually say
Deep Siren is presented on Steam as a Lovecraftian World War II horror fairytale. You play the survivor of the U.S.S. Siren, encounter a mermaid, and enter an underwater supernatural-horror world. The demo combines hand-drawn art, puzzles, full voiceover, a soundtrack, cosmetic unlocks, and an eye-closing puzzle mechanic.
The figures below are the minimum requirements for the demo listing, not recommended specifications and not requirements for the planned full game. Meeting a minimum means only that your computer matches the published baseline; it does not guarantee a particular resolution, frame rate, loading time, or visual preset.
Platform comparison
| Platform | Operating system | CPU minimum | Memory | Graphics and API | Storage | Other requirements | Official Deck rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Windows | 64-bit Windows | 2.5 GHz single-core or 2 GHz dual-core | 4 GB RAM | 3D graphics card compatible with OpenGL 2.0 and 1 GB graphics memory; DirectX 9.0 | 1 GB available | DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card with current drivers | Not established; the Steam listing says Unknown |
| macOS | macOS 10.15 Catalina or later | Intel 2 GHz dual-core | 4 GB RAM | Not stated in the published macOS minimum | 1 GB available | None additionally stated | Not applicable to macOS hardware |
| SteamOS + Linux | Ubuntu 14.04, Mint 17 or later | 2.5 GHz single-core or 2 GHz dual-core | 4 GB RAM | OpenGL 2.0 graphics with 1 GB graphics memory | 1 GB available | OpenAL-compatible sound | Not established; the Steam listing says Unknown |
Steam does not publish a separate recommended specification for the demo in the listing covered here. The absence of a recommended tier is important: the table is a compatibility floor, not a promise that every system at that level will deliver identical results.

Windows requirements in practical terms
Processor and operating system
Windows users need a 64-bit operating system. The listed processor floor is either a 2.5 GHz single-core CPU or a 2 GHz dual-core CPU. Those labels describe clock speed and core count, not a modern processor family or generation. A newer low-power laptop CPU can therefore differ substantially from an older desktop chip even when both appear to meet the number.
Memory, graphics and storage
The demo asks for 4 GB of system RAM. Its graphics requirement is a 3D card compatible with OpenGL 2.0 and carrying 1 GB of graphics memory, alongside DirectX 9.0 support. The listing also calls for 1 GB of free storage. Leave additional room for Steam’s download process, temporary files, shader data and save data rather than treating exactly 1 GB as a safe disk budget.
Sound support
Windows also lists a DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card with the latest drivers. Integrated audio is common on current PCs, but an outdated driver can still cause missing voiceover, crackling or failure to start audio. Updating the graphics and audio drivers is a sensible first troubleshooting step if the game launches without sound.
macOS requirements
The macOS minimum is macOS 10.15 Catalina or later, an Intel 2 GHz dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM and 1 GB of available storage. The listing does not state a separate graphics API, graphics-memory figure or sound requirement for macOS. Do not infer that the Windows OpenGL and DirectX wording is a macOS specification; use the macOS line as published.

Because the stated processor is Intel, the listing does not explain whether Apple-silicon Macs are supported natively or through translation. If you own an Apple-silicon Mac, check the current Steam compatibility information and the demo’s behavior on your specific machine rather than assuming the Intel line answers that question.
SteamOS and Linux requirements
Published Linux baseline
For SteamOS + Linux, Steam lists Ubuntu 14.04, Mint 17 or later, a 2.5 GHz single-core or 2 GHz dual-core CPU, 4 GB of RAM, OpenGL 2.0 graphics with 1 GB of graphics memory, 1 GB of storage and OpenAL-compatible sound.
Ubuntu 14.04 and Mint 17 are old distributions. Their appearance in a minimum list should not be read as a guarantee that every modern distribution, display server, driver stack or audio configuration will behave identically. Linux compatibility depends on the installed graphics driver and libraries as well as the headline CPU and RAM numbers.

What the Linux line does not prove
A SteamOS + Linux requirement indicates that a Linux build or Linux-targeted configuration is listed. It does not, by itself, certify the demo for Steam Deck. The Deck uses SteamOS, but Deck certification also considers input, display modes, default settings, text legibility and other handheld-specific behavior.

Can Deep Siren run on Steam Deck?
You can see the demo’s Steam Deck status directly on its store page: it is currently marked Unknown. Valve defines that label as: Unknown: We haven’t checked this game for compatibility yet.
This is an evidence status, not a performance grade. It means there is no official Valve check to rely on.
Why Unknown is different from Verified or Playable
Valve’s Deck ratings examine more than whether a game can install. The criteria include controller input, supported Deck resolutions, sensible default settings and text that can be read on the built-in display. The Deep Siren Demo listing has not been awarded the Verified rating in the current information, and the Unknown label does not establish Playable status either.
- No official guarantee is provided for built-in controls or button prompts.
- No official guarantee is provided for the Deck’s 1280×800 display or other supported resolutions.
- No official guarantee is provided that menus and subtitles are legible without manual scaling.
- No official guarantee is provided for frame rate, battery behavior, stability, suspend/resume or shader-cache behavior.
What the low requirements do and do not tell a Deck owner
The 4 GB RAM and 1 GB storage figures look small compared with many current PC releases, and the Linux line names OpenGL 2.0. Those facts suggest a technically modest target on paper, but they cannot substitute for a Deck test. A game may meet a Linux minimum and still need control remapping, a compatibility layer, a different launch option or manual display adjustments on a handheld.

- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
How to check your own system before installing
- Confirm the operating system. On Windows, verify that the installation is 64-bit. On macOS, check that the version is 10.15 Catalina or newer. On Linux, compare your distribution with the Ubuntu 14.04 or Mint 17-and-later line shown by Steam.
- Check memory. Make sure the machine has at least 4 GB of system RAM. Close heavy applications during the first launch if the computer is close to that floor.
- Check the graphics path. On Windows and Linux, verify OpenGL 2.0 capability and at least 1 GB of graphics memory. Windows systems should also provide DirectX 9.0 support.
- Reserve disk space. Keep more than the listed 1 GB free so Steam can download, unpack and update the demo without filling the drive.
- Update drivers and audio components. Windows users should install current graphics and sound drivers. Linux users should verify that the selected graphics driver exposes the required OpenGL support and that OpenAL audio is available.
- Read the current Deck badge. On a Deck, open the demo’s Steam store page and inspect the compatibility label before installation. Unknown remains Unknown until Valve changes the listing.
What to expect from the demo itself
The demo is not simply a technology test. Its advertised content includes a hand-drawn presentation, puzzles, full voiceover, a soundtrack and cosmetic unlocks. The eye-closing puzzle mechanic is part of its distinctive interaction design. Those features make audio output, readable visual details and reliable input especially relevant when evaluating a handheld experience, yet none of those qualities is certified by the current Deck badge.
Controls and text
Because the listing is Unknown, the available evidence does not establish that every action maps cleanly to Deck controls or that text is sized for the handheld screen. If you try it on Deck, pay attention during the opening menus and first puzzle: confirm that you can navigate without a mouse, read objectives at the default scale and reach any settings needed to adjust display or controls.
Performance expectations
The published minimums contain no frame-rate target, resolution target or benchmark. Do not convert the low storage and RAM numbers into a promised 60 frames per second, a particular graphics preset or a specific battery runtime. Real behavior can vary with driver versions, SteamOS updates, background processes and the hardware configuration of a Windows, macOS or Linux computer.

Steam lists the separate full game for a planned Q2 2027 release. Its Windows and SteamOS + Linux minimums list 4 GB of RAM and 5 GB of storage, while the demo lists 1 GB of storage. The additional storage requirement belongs to the full-game listing and must not be substituted for the demo’s current 1 GB figure.
| Listing | Windows/Linux RAM minimum | Windows/Linux storage minimum | Release information |

| Deep Siren Demo | 4 GB | 1 GB | Released September 27, 2026 |
| Deep Siren full game | 4 GB | 5 GB | Planned for Q2 2027 |
Requirements can change as a project moves from a demo to a full release. Recheck the full-game page when it launches instead of assuming that installing the demo proves the final build will fit, run or retain the same platform support.
Troubleshooting when the demo does not behave as expected
It will not install
- Recheck that the drive has more than 1 GB free, not merely 1 GB nominal capacity.
- Confirm that Steam is installing to a library with write access and that the operating system matches a listed platform.
- On Linux, verify the distribution and graphics driver rather than relying only on the CPU specification.
It launches but shows visual errors
- Update the graphics driver and confirm OpenGL 2.0 support.
- On Windows, verify DirectX 9.0 support and install current system updates.
- On a Deck, remember that Unknown status means Valve has not validated the default graphics path; record whether changing a display option or compatibility setting changes the result.
Audio or voiceover is missing
- On Windows, update the sound driver and confirm a DirectX 9.0c-compatible audio path.
- On Linux, check that an OpenAL-compatible sound library is available and that Steam is using the intended output device.
- On any platform, test system audio with another application before treating the demo as the sole cause.
Controls or text are difficult on Deck
That symptom is precisely why Valve evaluates controller support, supported resolutions and legibility separately from basic installation. Try the game’s own settings and Steam Input options, but regard any workaround as a user configuration rather than an official compatibility guarantee.
