Deep Regrets turns fishing into a weeklong contest of resource choices, strange catches and mounting regret. TechRaptor’s review praises its thematic components, artwork, rules presentation and tactical variety, while noting that competition can become harder to read at four or five players. The game’s hook is its push-and-pull between fishing deeper for more disturbing rewards and managing the consequences those catches bring.
What is Deep Regrets?
Deep Regrets is a physical strategic horror fishing board game from Tettix Games. The publisher describes it as a game for one to five players aged 16 and up, taking about 30 minutes per player. Its setting evokes turn-of-the-century Europe, with folklore and Hollow Earth ideas treated as possibly real. Tettix Games cites influences including The Shadow Over Innsmouth, John Langan’s The Fisherman, the Hellboy series, and video games such as Dredge and Bloodborne, alongside a dash of Scooby Doo. Tettix Games’ game page also says the 2024 Kickstarter campaign earned over £600,000; that is the publisher’s figure, not an independently audited total.
How does a game of Deep Regrets work?
The game covers a week. Each day, players decide whether to spend their time fishing or visiting port. Fishing is how they pursue catches; port exchanges a fishing day for opportunities to acquire equipment, sell fish or mount them for points. Neither choice is free: the day spent in port can improve a player’s position, but it is also a day not spent hauling in fish.

Fishing means managing depth and dice
Players choose among fishing piles organized by shadow size and depth, then roll dice and use their values to meet a fish’s catch value. Going deeper costs dice, and returning toward shallower water takes resources too. A deep-water plan therefore commits more than the current turn: it can restrict what a player can do on later turns as they work their way back.

Regret and Madness make the catches riskier
Stranger catches and selling them can bring Regret cards. In the review’s account, these cards combine flavor text with values that affect scoring. An Ocean Madness tracker also changes fish values and the maximum dice capacity as madness rises. The result is a linked risk-and-reward system: pursuing stronger, fouler catches can expand what a player can do, but the associated Regret and changing game state can complicate the final score.
What does the review like about Deep Regrets?
TechRaptor’s review, by Adam Potts, praises the game’s presentation as well as its mechanics. The fish coin, life preserver and fish illustrations help establish the theme, while the flavor text on Regret cards suggests a connected narrative. The reviewer also finds the rulebook’s flow and reference-friendly presentation effective.

On the strategic side, the reviewer says the game has more depth than its premise initially suggests and supports several tactical approaches. The deeper, riskier strategy proved especially tempting in that reviewer’s own plays: despite intending to try a more restrained approach, the reviewer repeatedly gravitated toward deeper water. That is a personal observation, not a claim that every group will favor the same strategy.

| Player count | What the review reports |
|---|---|
| Solo or cooperative | Survey play lets players catalog fish. |
| 2–3 players | The reviewer found competition relatively civil. |
| 4–5 players | The reviewer found play more competitive, with areas easier to overfish and it harder to judge who is ahead. |
These are the reviewer’s observations, not a guarantee of how every group will experience a given player count. Still, the higher-count caveat matters if a clear sense of who is leading is important to your group.
Who is Deep Regrets for?
Based on the mechanics and the review’s assessment, Deep Regrets is a plausible fit for players who enjoy strategic choices wrapped in an unsettling theme: deciding when to pause for port, how far to push into deeper water, and whether a strange catch is worth its scoring consequences. The reviewer’s praise for the rules and tactical variety suggests the game offers more than its fishing premise alone, though the publisher’s estimate of about 30 minutes per player is worth keeping in mind when planning a session.

Groups considering competitive play should also weigh the review’s account of busier four- and five-player games, where overfishing and a less obvious lead may affect the experience. The game’s solo and cooperative survey option gives players another way to engage with its fish-cataloging premise.
Deep Regrets review verdict
TechRaptor’s review presents Deep Regrets as a thematically rich fishing game with satisfying tactical decisions, memorable presentation and a regret mechanic that ties risky catches to scoring. Its clearest caution is the reviewer’s report that higher-player-count competition can make areas easier to overfish and the leader harder to identify. If the combination of eerie fishing, resource planning and escalating weirdness appeals to you, the review’s overall judgment is positive, with player count a practical consideration.
