Choose PlateUp! if you want a frantic restaurant-management game for up to four players. Choose Deep Dish Dungeon if you want cooking woven into a slower dungeon adventure, with solo play or online co-op for up to two friends. Choose Dungeon Munchies if you want a single-player 2D action RPG where recipes are part of your combat build.
All three games use food differently. PlateUp! makes cooking the operation you must run; Deep Dish Dungeon makes meals a survival and progression tool; Dungeon Munchies turns dishes into abilities that combine with weapons. The right choice depends less on whether you like cooking and more on whether you want management, exploration or action combat around it.

What kind of cooking game is each one?
Deep Dish Dungeon: cooking as survival and discovery
Deep Dish Dungeon is a survival-exploration dungeon crawler released on Steam on 13 October 2026 by Behold Studios and Raw Fury. You gather resources, improve a campsite, craft tools, cook meals, solve puzzles and investigate a hand-crafted dungeon. Food is not a restaurant service to be delivered to customers. Recipes unlock different stat effects, so what you cook changes how you approach the expedition and how well you cope with its dangers.
Recommended Free Tools
The pace is deliberately investigative. The game asks you to examine shadows, notice environmental clues, solve puzzles and open doors rather than simply clear a sequence of combat arenas. Resource gathering and campsite improvement give the expedition a preparation layer, while cooking supplies the statistical advantages that make further exploration possible. That combination suits players who enjoy making decisions with incomplete information: which materials to carry, which tools to craft and which meal effects are worth preparing before entering a dangerous area.

Deep Dish Dungeon can be played solo or online with up to two friends. “Up to two friends” means a maximum party of three players, not four. The cooperative format is therefore intimate, suited to a small group that wants to investigate a space together rather than operate a large, highly specialized kitchen team.
PlateUp!: cooking as a restaurant operation
PlateUp! is a restaurant-management roguelite released on Steam on 4 August 2022. Its loop is explicit: choose and cook dishes, serve customers, design and decorate a restaurant, buy and place appliances, and carry unlocks into new procedurally generated restaurants.
A run is organized around 15 hectic days. During each service window, customers, preparation, cooking, serving and cleaning compete for your attention. Between services, you decide how to spend resources and how to lay out the kitchen. Appliance placement is not cosmetic. Conveyors, turbo-ovens and other equipment can be arranged into more efficient workflows, allowing a team to automate repetitive jobs and keep orders moving as demand rises.
The game supports solo play, online co-op and shared or split-screen co-op, with up to four players building and running a restaurant. After a run, upgrades can carry into a new franchise, giving the roguelite structure a reason to replay failed or completed attempts. PlateUp! is the strongest fit when the appeal is communication, time pressure, optimization and the satisfaction of turning a chaotic kitchen into a repeatable process.
Dungeon Munchies: cooking as a combat build system
Dungeon Munchies is a single-player, side-scrolling action RPG released on Steam on 27 July 2022 by maJAJa. You hunt creatures, cook what you collect, eat dishes to gain abilities and use leftover animal and plant parts to craft weapons. The result is not a restaurant simulation and not a traditional hunger meter: recipes are equipment-like choices that define your fighting style.
Your stomach can hold seven dishes. Each slot is therefore part of build planning. The official examples describe meals that improve health recovery, raise damage output or create a watery shield. Crafted weapons can be paired with those food effects, so changing the menu can change the way you handle combat even when the surrounding action remains the same.

The tone and presentation are also distinct. Dungeon Munchies is a 2D side-scrolling game with pixel-art visuals and dark comedy. Its Steam store page reproduces PCInvasion’s description: “Dungeon Munchies is a wonderful game so far. The combat is excellent, the writing is funny and intriguing, and the visuals have a lot of character.” That statement is a quoted opinion from PCInvasion, not a performance measurement, but it captures why this game appeals to players who want food mechanics attached to a character-driven action adventure.

There is no single “deepest cooking system” because each game measures depth differently.
PlateUp! has the deepest operational cooking
PlateUp! gives cooking the largest number of logistical consequences. A dish is part of a menu, and that menu affects preparation, appliance requirements, customer flow and the amount of work your team must complete during a service. You must decide where equipment goes, which tasks can be automated and how much complexity your restaurant can tolerate before customers wait too long.
Its depth comes from interacting constraints rather than from character statistics. A successful kitchen is one in which the physical layout, appliance choices and player assignments support one another. Adding equipment can increase capacity, but it can also consume space or create a workflow that is harder to navigate. Because runs cover 15 days and upgrades carry into new franchises, experimentation has a clear purpose: you are testing a restaurant design under pressure and refining it for another run.
Deep Dish Dungeon has the deepest survival cooking
Deep Dish Dungeon treats recipes as preparation for an expedition. Meals grant stat effects, so ingredients are valuable not merely because they fill an inventory but because they can influence survival and progression. The cooking decision is connected to resource gathering, campsite development, tool crafting, puzzle solving and dungeon investigation.
This makes food a form of risk management. You are deciding what benefit is most useful before you know exactly what a shadow, locked door or environmental clue will demand. A meal that improves one statistic may be more valuable than another depending on the route you take and the resources available at your campsite. The system is deeper for players who enjoy planning around uncertainty rather than optimizing a known production line.

Dungeon Munchies has the deepest build-oriented cooking
Dungeon Munchies makes every dish part of a seven-slot loadout. Health recovery, damage and defensive effects can be combined with crafted weapons, turning recipe selection into a combat-build decision. The important question is not “Can I serve this meal quickly?” but “What combination of effects do I want active for the next fights?”
Because it is single-player, you can adjust that build around your own preferences without coordinating roles with a team. Players who enjoy trying combinations, replacing one dish and seeing how it changes combat will find more direct character customization here than in the other two games.
Multiplayer and solo play compared
| Game | Solo | Online co-op | Local co-op | Maximum listed group |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Deep Dish Dungeon | Yes | Yes | Not stated on the cited Steam listing | Three players total: the player plus up to two friends |
| PlateUp! | Yes | Yes | Shared and split-screen co-op | Four players |
| Dungeon Munchies | Single-player | Not listed | Not listed | One player |
For a large group, choose PlateUp!
PlateUp! is the clear multiplayer choice when four people want to play together. Its design also gives each person an obvious contribution: cooking, serving, moving ingredients, handling equipment or improving the layout. The pressure comes from having several jobs active at once, so communication matters as much as individual execution.

For a small online party, choose Deep Dish Dungeon
Deep Dish Dungeon supports online co-op for the player and up to two friends. The smaller party size fits an exploratory game in which players gather resources, solve puzzles and inspect environmental details. It is the better option when your group wants to investigate a dungeon together and does not need a four-person roster.
For a focused solo session, choose Dungeon Munchies
Dungeon Munchies is designed for one player on the cited Steam and Nintendo listings. There is no need to divide tasks or wait for another person’s schedule. You control the complete food-and-weapon build and can treat each recipe choice as a personal combat experiment.
Pressure, pacing and failure
PlateUp! creates immediate social pressure
The pressure in PlateUp! is visible and continuous: customers are waiting, orders need to be prepared, and the kitchen layout determines how quickly players can respond. A poor decision can cause a service to unravel in real time. That makes it exciting with friends, but it can also be demanding for players who prefer to pause and think through a route.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The 15-day structure gives each run a clear horizon. You can focus on surviving the current service, then use the between-day decisions to redesign the kitchen or improve its equipment. The roguelite progression means a failed run still informs the next franchise rather than ending the overall learning process.

Deep Dish Dungeon is slower and more atmospheric. Its challenges include resource scarcity, puzzles, enemies and environmental clues. The pressure comes from deciding how far to push an expedition and how to prepare for what you have not yet understood. Players who like searching, interpreting surroundings and making careful use of supplies will find that tension more appealing than a countdown clock.
Dungeon Munchies creates combat and build pressure
Dungeon Munchies concentrates pressure in encounters and build choices. Ingredient hunting feeds the recipe system, and the seven-dish stomach capacity forces you to select which effects matter most. Leftover parts become weapons, so the same creatures and plants can influence both your abilities and your equipment. The challenge is finding combinations that suit the way you want to fight.

A practical decision process
- Count your players. If four people need to play together, select PlateUp!. If you have one or two online friends and want exploration, Deep Dish Dungeon fits the listed party size. If you want a solo-only game, Dungeon Munchies is the unambiguous choice.
- Identify the main activity. Choose restaurant service for PlateUp!, dungeon investigation for Deep Dish Dungeon, or side-scrolling combat for Dungeon Munchies.
- Decide what food should change. In PlateUp!, food changes the operation and workload. In Deep Dish Dungeon, meals provide stat effects that support survival and progression. In Dungeon Munchies, dishes change abilities and combine with weapons.
- Choose your preferred pressure. Select timed customer service for immediate teamwork, resource scarcity and puzzles for exploratory tension, or combat encounters and loadout decisions for action-focused pressure.
- Check your platform. Steam listings cover all three games. Nintendo’s cited listing confirms a Switch download for Dungeon Munchies, while equivalent console availability is not established here for the other two.
Common buying mistakes
Buying PlateUp! when you wanted a relaxed cooking story
PlateUp! is built around hectic service windows and optimization. Its cooking is inseparable from customer management, appliance placement and restaurant survival. If you want to wander, inspect clues and cook for survival, Deep Dish Dungeon is closer to that expectation.
Buying Deep Dish Dungeon expecting a four-person kitchen
Its listed online co-op limit is the player plus up to two friends, for three players total. A four-person group should choose PlateUp!, whose Steam description lists up to four players.
Buying Dungeon Munchies expecting co-op
The cited Steam and Nintendo listings describe Dungeon Munchies as single-player. Its seven-dish system is designed for an individual combat build, not shared party roles.
Assuming all three games measure cooking skill the same way
They do not. PlateUp! tests workflow and service execution; Deep Dish Dungeon tests preparation and resource decisions during exploration; Dungeon Munchies tests build composition and combat adaptation. Comparing them only by the presence of recipes misses the reason each game feels different.
Final recommendation by priority
For the strongest group play and the clearest restaurant-management loop, PlateUp! is the safest recommendation. For a slower adventure in which campsite preparation and meals directly support dungeon progress, Deep Dish Dungeon is the better match. For a solo action RPG where seven food slots and crafted weapons define your combat approach, choose Dungeon Munchies.
