Cooking in Deep Dish Dungeon is expedition preparation, not a cosmetic minigame. You forage during a run, bring ingredients to camp, unlock recipes by discovering their ingredients, and use the correct station to turn those materials into meals or potions. The resulting buffs support health, stamina, movement and other stats on the next expedition. The most important practical rule is to match the ingredients and station precisely: each station has its own slot, fuel and timing rules.
How the cooking loop works
Deep Dish Dungeon combines dungeon exploration with a camp-based crafting loop. During an expedition, collect ingredients and other resources instead of treating every pickup as immediate loot. Back at camp, use the station that accepts the item, produce a meal or potion, and carry that support into the next run. Raw Fury’s Steam description summarizes the progression idea as “food is progress”: recipes unlock over time and have different effects on your stats.
That loop creates four decisions before a difficult dungeon:

- What can you gather? Ingredients come from your expeditions and include familiar categories such as fruit, vegetables, proteins, herbs and prepared items.
- What has your character unlocked? Recipe discovery is tied to picking up ingredients, and co-op players should not assume that one person’s pickup unlocks a recipe for everyone.
- Which station accepts the combination? A Cooking Pot, Skillet, Oven, Rotisserie and Kettle do not share the same slot or fuel rules.
- Which effect fits the next run? A health-and-stamina meal, movement bonus or potion can be more useful than simply cooking the highest-value dish you know.
Cooking therefore belongs in your preparation checklist alongside equipment and route planning. The station rules determine whether a batch succeeds, while the meal’s duration and stat effect determine how much value you get from the ingredients.

How ingredients unlock recipes
Pick up an ingredient to reveal recipes that use it
NPC Tips records a developer explanation from 7 March 2026: “Each player needs to grab one of the items in the recipe to unlock it.” In practical terms, discovering an ingredient can reveal recipes that contain it. Some recipes also require a prerequisite item, so finding one component may expose a recipe without making every possible combination immediately available.
This is a discovery system rather than a traditional recipe-book purchase. If a dish is missing from your menu, look for an ingredient you have never personally collected. In co-op, treat unlocks as player-specific: the documented rule means one teammate’s pickup should not automatically be expected to unlock the same recipe for every other teammate.
Build a flexible pantry
The cooking overview names apples, meat, mushrooms, corn, cassava, tomatoes, beans and cilantro among the ingredients. It also identifies dishes such as Shepherd’s Pie, meat and mushroom stew, ramen, pastel and cassava fritters. Herbs and other ingredients can modify an existing dish.
The release-build recipe table allows “any vegetable” and “any protein” substitutions in recipes that specify those categories. Raw or cooked forms may qualify where the recipe permits them. This makes a mixed stock more useful than a hoard of one exact item: keep several vegetables and proteins available so a substitution can rescue a missing ingredient.

Use this as a station-selection checklist. The restrictions below come from the release-build recipe data; demo-only behavior is identified separately.

Other production entries in the release table include Crafting, Workbench, Cooking Table and Forge Anvil. They are part of the wider recipe system, but the food-specific slot and fuel rules above apply to the cooking stations.
Using the Cooking Pot without wasting ingredients
Why order matters
The Cooking Pot does not simply search for any possible dish and let you choose from a menu. It checks recipes in a fixed order and cooks the first matching recipe. That means an ingredient pair can produce a different result from what you expected if the same items satisfy an earlier recipe.

Reliable combinations
- Tomato Soup: place two Tomatoes in the pot.
- Meat Soup: place two Raw Meat in the pot.
- Stew: combine Raw Meat with a vegetable accepted by the recipe.
- Ramen: combine Noodles with Raw Meat.
Each Cooking Pot batch yields one dish. Because the station accepts two or three ingredients, do not fill the third slot automatically: use the smallest combination that matches the intended recipe unless you have verified the three-item version.
When a pot “makes the wrong food”
First check whether your ingredients match more than one recipe. If they do, the fixed recipe order explains the result; changing the order of the ingredients may not help because the station evaluates recipes, not a preferred dish selected by the player. Next check substitutions: “any vegetable” or “any protein” can broaden the matches. Finally, confirm that an ingredient is in the required raw or cooked state.
Skillet, Oven, Rotisserie and Kettle techniques
Skillet: stop at two ingredients
The Skillet is the easiest station to overfill. One ingredient can make a standalone dish, and exactly two ingredients can make a combined dish when both belong to one recipe list. Three ingredients make nothing. If a two-item attempt fails, remove the extra material, verify the recipe’s ingredient pair and try again.

Oven: plan around Coal
The Oven takes one item at a time and consumes Coal as a requirement. It handles prepared dough and pies as well as single-ingredient roasting. Keep Coal in your camp stock before starting a baking session; otherwise a valid recipe can still be blocked by missing fuel. Documented oven examples include Corn Bread and Deep Dish Pizza.
Rotisserie: use a timer
The Rotisserie has three slots and roasts one item in each. Its capacity is convenient for processing several ingredients at once, but food left too long burns. Load only what you can monitor and remove finished food promptly. The burn behavior is documented for the demo cooking loop, so treat the exact timing as version-sensitive.
Kettle: add water before the potion ingredients
The Kettle requires water before brewing. It is the station for Healing, Immunity, Refresh and Stamina Potions in the documented recipe set. If a potion attempt does not start, verify the water requirement before changing the ingredient combination.
Recipe counts and what they actually mean
Two published data sets report different totals because they represent different builds and categories:

These are database counts, not a publisher marketing statistic. The full game is listed on Steam with a 13 October 2026 release date. A demo import can omit, rename or reorganize content that appears in the release build, which is why the two totals should not be added together or presented as competing claims about the final game.

Cooking times and expedition scheduling
In the release-build data, Crafting, Workbench and Cooking Table recipes take three seconds. Cooking stations use recipe-specific times, so a camp session should be scheduled rather than treated as instantaneous:

Use short recipes when you need a quick top-up before another run. Start long oven recipes, such as the documented 180-second Deep Dish Pizza, while you organize the rest of your inventory instead of waiting at the station. The times above are release-build values and may change with later patches.
Freshness and burning
The demo cooking loop includes spoilage and baskets that keep food fresh longer. Rotisserie food can also burn when left too long. These mechanics are build-specific in the available documentation, so treat baskets as a freshness-management tool and monitor the rotisserie rather than assuming every cooked item has the same shelf life.

Official descriptions establish that meals affect stats and bolster strength. The exact examples below come from CapyDB’s Steam-demo import, not an official balance statement:

These examples show why duration matters as much as the size of a bonus. An Apple is a short, light boost; Bean Soup offers a larger health-and-stamina increase for a moderate window; Apple Pie combines substantial Max HP and Max SP with movement speed and lasts twice as long as the Apple example.

A practical selection method
- Identify the run’s risk. If damage is the main concern, prioritize a Max HP effect. If repeated abilities or sprinting are the problem, prioritize Max SP. If travel time and repositioning dominate, movement speed can be valuable.
- Match the duration to the route. A 10-minute effect can expire during a long expedition, while a 30-minute effect is better suited to a route expected to continue through several encounters.
- Check the station and fuel first. A theoretically ideal meal is irrelevant if its station is occupied, it needs Coal, or the required ingredients are not unlocked.
- Carry flexibility. Stock substitutions permitted by the recipe rather than relying on one exact vegetable or protein.
Do not treat the database numbers as universal final-game balance. They describe the imported demo build and are useful for planning examples, not a guarantee that a later release or patch uses identical values.
Example preparation workflows
Fast preparation before a short expedition
- Review the ingredients collected on the previous run and identify one unlocked recipe that uses what you already have.
- Use the Cooking Pot for a verified two-ingredient soup or stew, or the Skillet for a one-ingredient dish.
- Start any 40- to 60-second recipe, then refill water at the Kettle if a potion is needed.
- Take the resulting buff only after checking that its duration covers the intended route.
Long-run preparation at a developed camp
- Separate ingredients by category: vegetables, proteins, fruit, herbs, noodles and prepared dough or pies.
- Reserve Coal for Oven recipes and water for Kettle recipes before using other stations.
- Start a long bake such as Deep Dish Pizza, then process faster foods while it runs.
- Use the Rotisserie only when you can monitor all three slots and remove food promptly.
- Store finished food in a basket when the demo freshness system applies, reducing the chance that a prepared meal spoils before the expedition.
Troubleshooting failed recipes
The station does nothing
- Confirm the station: Oven recipes cannot be moved to the Skillet, and potions require the Kettle.
- Check slot count. The Skillet rejects three ingredients, while the Cooking Pot expects two or three.
- Check fuel and setup: the Oven needs Coal and the Kettle needs water.
- Verify the ingredient state. A recipe may distinguish raw from cooked material.
The result is not the dish you expected
- In the Cooking Pot, remember that recipes are checked in a fixed order and the first match is cooked.
- Remove optional ingredients and retry with the smallest documented combination.
- Check whether an “any vegetable” or “any protein” substitution created a different valid match.
A recipe is still locked
- Pick up an ingredient from that recipe yourself; co-op unlocks are documented per player.
- Look for a prerequisite item as well as the main ingredient.
- Account for build differences if you are comparing a demo database with the full release.
Food disappears or burns
- For demo freshness behavior, place food in a basket to keep it fresh longer.
- On the Rotisserie, remove items before they burn. Do not assume all stations share the same cooking timer.
Version boundaries to keep in mind
The full game’s Steam listing gives 13 October 2026 as the release date. NPC Tips’ 142-recipe table is based on release build 25955406 and was checked 15 October 2026. CapyDB’s 65 food-and-drink count and buff examples come from a Steam-demo import, build 1013, last imported 10 October 2026. NiaMeowDB explicitly warns that its page is not a complete full-game recipe database.
Use release-build station rules and timings when planning the current full game, and label demo-derived buff values, freshness behavior and counts as demo data. If a patch changes a recipe, station order or stat value, the in-game recipe display takes precedence over older database imports.
Bottom line
Collect ingredients deliberately, unlock recipes by picking up their components, and choose the station before combining anything. The Cooking Pot rewards verified two- or three-item matches, the Skillet stops at two ingredients, the Oven needs Coal, the Rotisserie needs attention, and the Kettle needs water. For an expedition, compare ingredient availability, station and fuel requirements, cooking time, buff type, duration and spoilage risk rather than choosing a dish by name alone.
