If DEATHLOOP crashes on your PC, first check the game’s requirements, update Windows and your graphics driver, and close unnecessary background apps. Then verify the game files if you use Steam, check permissions and required Windows components, and test Bethesda’s V-Sync workaround. No single fix is guaranteed: the right next step depends on whether the game crashes before launch or during play, your storefront, and any error message.

Start with the crash pattern

Note when the crash happens before changing settings: before the game opens, while loading, or during gameplay. Record any exact error text and whether the crash happens consistently or intermittently. These details help narrow down the troubleshooting branch; they do not, by themselves, establish a cause.

  • Crash before launch: prioritize checking system requirements, Windows and graphics drivers, permissions, and required runtime components.
  • Crash during gameplay: check the same baseline, then test the V-Sync workaround below and note whether a particular situation reliably precedes the crash.
  • Steam installation: verify the installed game files through Steam.
  • Another storefront: use that storefront’s repair or verification option, if available. Bethesda’s Steam-specific verification path does not apply to every installation.

Check that your PC meets DEATHLOOP’s requirements

Bethesda’s FAQ, dated September 20, 2022, lists these minimum PC requirements. Steam’s DEATHLOOP listing also gives 12 GB RAM and a GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 580 8 GB as minimums. Check the listing for your storefront for the current requirements before making a hardware decision.

Component Bethesda FAQ minimum
Operating system Windows 10 version 1909 or later
Memory 12 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA GTX 1060 with 6 GB or AMD RX 580 with 8 GB
DirectX DirectX 12
Available storage 38 GB

These are published minimums, not proof that a crash is caused by hardware. Compare your PC with the official Bethesda DEATHLOOP FAQ and the Steam listing for your edition before considering an upgrade.

DEATHLOOP Standard Edition - PlayStation 5
  • DEATHLOOP is a next-gen first person shooter from Arkane Lyon, the award-winning studio behind Dishonored
  • In DEATHLOOP, two rival assassins are trapped in a mysterious timeloop on the island of Blackreef, doomed to repeat the same day for eternity
  • As Colt, the only chance for escape is to end the cycle by assassinating eight key targets before the day resets
  • Learn from each cycle - try new paths, gather intel, and find new weapons and abilities, and do whatever it takes to break the loop
  • Do whatever it takes to break the loop

Update Windows, the graphics driver, and Steam

  1. Install available Windows updates, then restart the PC.
  2. Install the current driver for your NVIDIA or AMD graphics card from its manufacturer. Bethesda’s support article includes driver guidance, but driver versions change; check its current recommendation rather than relying on an old version number.
  3. Close unnecessary background programs, then restart Steam if you play through Steam.
  4. Launch DEATHLOOP and see whether the crash still occurs.

Bethesda’s PC crash troubleshooting article recommends updating graphics drivers, Windows, and closing background applications.

Check permissions and repair the game installation

Run with administrator permissions

Bethesda recommends trying administrator permissions for the game executable or Steam. Use the executable in your own installation folder; a default path may not match a custom Steam library. Test one change at a time so you can tell whether it affects the crash.

Verify DEATHLOOP files in Steam

  1. Open Steam and select Library.
  2. Right-click DEATHLOOP and choose Properties.
  3. Open Installed Files (called Local Files in some older Steam interfaces).
  4. Select Verify integrity of game files and let Steam finish checking.

Steam may replace or redownload files it finds damaged. If the game is installed outside Steam, use the repair or verification feature provided by that storefront instead.

Check DirectX, Visual C++ components, and antivirus settings

Bethesda’s checklist advises installing the latest DirectX and Visual C++ redistributables and checking that antivirus software is not blocking the game. Get runtime installers from Microsoft’s official downloads, and use the game’s actual installation path when checking security software. If you add an antivirus exclusion, limit it to the necessary game files and follow the security software’s instructions.

Changing security settings is not a guaranteed fix. If you cannot identify a specific block, avoid disabling antivirus protection broadly.

Test Bethesda’s V-Sync workaround

Bethesda Support says some players have prevented crashes by turning V-Sync off in the game and enabling it in their graphics-card settings. Bethesda also cautions that the workaround may not work for everyone and may affect performance.

If DEATHLOOP still crashes, contact Bethesda Support

If the general checks do not resolve the problem, Bethesda asks players to contact support and provide DxDiag and MsInfo diagnostics. Include when the crash occurs, whether it is repeatable, the exact error text if one appears, and which steps you have tried. These details help support assess your particular PC; the general checklist does not identify one cause for every crash.
